anextensioncord.Thisprovidesthebestperformance

andalsopreventsoverloadinghousewiringcircuitswhich

couldcauseafirehazardfromoverheatedwires.

USING THE FREEZER: Operation/Features

Freezer Status Lights

STATUS LIGHT:Theredlightwillturnonautomatically

whenthetemperatureoftheFreezer/Fridgeistoohigh,

normally15°F(8°C)to18°F(10°C)higherthansetting

positionoftheFridge,andnormally11°F(6°C)to15°F

(8°C)higherthansettingpositionoftheFreezer.Itwillgo

offoncethetemperaturereachthesettingposition.

POWER INDICATOR: The green light is the indicator

light and assures you that your freezer is running. If the

indicatorlightisnotglowing,immediatelycheckforpower

interruption, unplugged power cord, open circuit breaker,

blown fuse, or burned out indicator light. If the light is

burnedout,contactserviceforareplacement.

IMPORTANT: Turning the control dial to Off does not

disconnectthefreezerfromthepowersupply.Evenwhen

CoolingisturnedOff,thepowerindicatorwillremain

illuminatedaslongasthefreezerispluggedintoanoutlet.

Freezer

1.Tousetheproductasfreezer,makesurethe

temperaturecontrolissetatthetickmarkunder

Freezer(recommendedsetting).

2.Allowthefreezertocoolfor6to8hoursbefore

adding food.

NOTE:Wait24hoursbetweenadjustmentsforthe

freezertemperaturetostabilize.

Fridge:

Beforeswitchingfromfreezerusetofridgeuse,please:

1.Checkthatfrozenfoodisnotpresentinsidethecavity

toavoidunwantedfooddefrosting.

2.Defrostandcleantheproducttoavoidwater

stagnationonthebottom.

3.Makesurethetemperaturecontrolissetatthemiddle

underFridge(recommendedsetting).

NOTE:Condensationmayformonthewalls,thelid

andthebottomofthecompartment.Draincondensation

wateroutofthecompartment.RefertoDefrosting

Instructionsformoredetails.Wipedry,especiallydoor

seal and their contacting surface on top of cabinet. .

Make sure you securely replace both drain plugs to

avoidunintendeddrainageofanycondensation.This

Sliding Basket

Storesmallpackagesinthebaskettoavoidlosingthem

inthebottomofthefreezer.Thebasketcanbemoved

fromsidetosideoritcanberemovedwhenloadingor

unloading the food below it.

Toremovebasket,liftitstraightupandout.Toreplace

basket, lower basket back into place.

NOTE:Numberofbasketsvaryfordifferentmodels.

Key Eject Lock

The lock is spring loaded so the key cannot be left in the

lock. To lock or unlock, press the key in while turning. If

thekeyislost,contactyourdealerforareplacementor

go to GEApplianceParts.com.Alwaysgivethemodel

andserialnumberofthefreezerwhenrequestinga

replacementkey.

WARNING

Topreventachildfrombeing

entrapped, keep the key out of reach of children and

awayfromthefreezer.

Recommended Grounding Method

Defrosting Instructions

USING THE FREEZER: DefrostingInstructions

Inmostclimates,defrostingwillbenecessaryonlyabout

twice a year.

Tohaveyourfreezeroperatemostefficiently,donot

permitmorethan1/4”(6mm)thicknessoffrost,on

average,toaccumulateonthewalls.

Donotusehardplasticscraperorwoodspatulato

removethefrostonthewallandonthebottomofthe

freezer.Itmaydamagetheinteriorsurface.Usesoft

towerorspongetoremovefrost.

Donotuseboilingwaterasitmaydamagethefreezer.

For Complete Defrosting

1. TurnthetemperaturecontroltoOffsettingand

unplug the freezer.

2. Removeallfoodandplaceitincorrugatedboxes,

insulatedbags,picniccoolers,etc.Usetowelsand

newspapers for insulation as needed.

3. Placeatray(notincluded)infrontofthefreezer,

beneaththeexteriordrainplugtocollectthewater.

Pullouttheexteriordrainplugentirely.Pulloutthe

interior drain plug. This allows the water to flow out

into the tray.

NOTE: Waterthathasaccumulatedatthebottomof

the freezer during defrosting will drain into the tray.

Monitorthetrayunderthedraintoavoidoverflow.

4. Withthelidopen,youmaychoosetousepansofhot

tapwaterlessthan120°F(49°C)tospeeddefrosting.

Directingairfromanelectricfanintothefreezerwill

alsohelp.Donotplacefanoranyelectricaldevicein

thefreezer.Removelargepiecesbeforetheymelt.

5. Wipewaterfromwallswithatowelorsponge.

6. Afterdefrosting,cleantheinsideofthefreezer(see

CareandCleaning).

7. Replace the drain plugs.

8. Pluginthefreezer.Returnthetemperaturecontrolto

itspreviouspositionandreturnfoodtothefreezer.

Cleaning Your Freezer

■Outside. Protect the paint finish. The finish on the

outsideofthefreezerisahighquality,baked-onpaint

finish.Withpropercare,itwillstaynew-lookingand

rust-freeforyears.Applyacoatofappliancepolish

waxwhenthefreezerisnewandthenatleasttwicea

year.Appliancepolishwaxalsoworkswelltoremove

taperesiduefromfreezersurfaces.

Keep the finish clean. Wipe with a clean cloth

lightlydampenedwithappliancepolishwaxormild

liquiddishwashingdetergent.Dryandpolishwith

aclean,softcloth.Donotwipethefreezerwitha

soileddishwashingclothorwettowel.Donotuse

scouring pads, powdered cleaners, bleach, or cleaners

containing bleach.

NOTICE: Careshouldbetakeninmovingthefreezer

awayfromthewall.Alltypesoffloorcoveringscanbe

damaged,particularlycushionedcoveringsandthose

withembossedsurfaces.

■Inside. Clean the inside of your freezer at least once

ayear.Werecommendthatthefreezerbeunplugged

beforecleaning.Ifthisisnotpractical,wringexcess

moistureoutofspongeorclothwhencleaninginthe

vicinityofswitches,lightsorcontrols.

 Usewarmwaterandbakingsodasolution–abouta

tablespoonofbakingsodatoaquartofwater.Rinse

thoroughlywithwaterandwipedry.Donotuse

cleaningpowdersorotherabrasivecleaners.DONOT

washremovablepartsinadishwasher.

 Anopenboxofbakingsodainthefreezerwillabsorb

stalefreezerodors.Changetheboxeverythree

months.

In Case of Extended Power Failure

■Keepfreezerlidclosed.Yourfreezerwillkeepfood

Tomaintainfreezerinoperationduringvacations,

besureyourhousepowerisnotturnedoff.Forsure

protectionoffreezercontents,youmaywanttoask

a neighbor to check the power supply and freezer

operationevery24hours.

Forextendedvacationsorabsences,youmaypreferto

moveyourfrozenfoodstoastoragelockertemporarily.

Ifyourfreezeristobeleftempty,disconnectpowercord

plugfromwalloutlet.Topreventformationofodors,

placeopenboxofbakingsodainfreezerandleave

freezer lid open.

Save Money and Energy

■Thefreezershouldbelocated

inthecoolestareaoftheroom,

awayfromheat-producing

appliances or heating ducts,

and out of direct sunlight.

■Lethotfoodscooltoroom

temperaturebeforeplacinginthe

freezer.Overloadingthefreezerforcesthecompressor

torunlonger.Foodsthatfreezetooslowlymaylose

qualityorspoil.

■Besuretowrapfoodsproperly,andwipecontainers

drybeforeplacingtheminthefreezer.Thiscutsdown

on frost buildup inside the freezer.

■Freezerbasketsshouldnotbelinedwithaluminum

foil,waxpaperorpapertowels.Linersinterferewith

coldaircirculation,makingthefreezerlessefficient.

■Organizeandlabelfoodtoreducelidopeningsand

extendedsearches.Removeasmanyitemsas

neededatonetime,andclosethelidassoonas

possible.

Freezer Location

Yourfreezershouldbeconvenientlylocatedfor

day-to-dayuseinadry,well-ventilatedroom.

Donotinstallthefreezerwherethetemperaturewill

gobelow0°F(-18°C)orabove110°F(43°C),because

itwillnotmaintainpropertemperatures.Setthe

Freezertemperaturetothecoldestiftheenvironment

temperatureis0°F.

Donotinstallthefreezerinalocationexposedtorain

water or direct sunlight.

Besuretoinstallyourfreezeronafloorstrongenough

to support it when it is fully loaded.

Level Freezer

Levelthefreezerfromsidetosideandfronttoback

sothatthelidwillsealproperly.Useshimstolevelthe

freezer if necessary.

NOTE: Itshouldnotbenecessarytoremovethelid

duringinstallation.If,forsomereason,thehingesneed

adjustment,callaprofessionalservicecompany..

Clearances and Ventilation

Allowatleast2”(50.8mm)clearanceonbothsidesof

thefreezerand2”(50.8mm)betweenthebackofthe

freezerandthewall.Leaveroomabovethefreezerto

open the lid.

Keepflammablematerialsandvapors,suchasgasoline,

awayfromfreezer.

Donotcoverthefreezerwithitemssuchasblankets,

sheets, tablecloths, etc. This reduces air circulation.

before lifting.

HINGE SPRING UNDER TENSION

Ifitisnecessarytoremovethedoor,followthesesteps:

Disconnect the power before you do following steps.

1.Removethelowerpartofthehingecoverandthen

removetheupperpart.

For16Cu-Ftand22Cu-Ftmodel,youneed3(or4for

22Cu-ft)3/32"or5/64"AllenWrenchesorpocketscrew

drivestolockthehingesinposition.

2.Keeplidclosed.InsertAllenWrenchesthroughhinge

hole on all hinges to take tension off spring so that the

hinge stays in its original position.

3.KeepAllenWrenchesinposition.Remove4screws

fromtheupperpartofthehinge.

4.Disconnectwirefrommulti-terminalconnectorin

machinecompartment.Removethedoor.

5. Reinstalldoorfollowstepsinreverse.Tighten all

hingescrewsbutavoidover-tighteningtoprevent

stripping.Reinstallhingecovers.

For18Cu-ftfollowbelowsteps.

1.Opendoortoitsmaximumpositionsothatthehinge

springisatthelowesttension."

2. Loosen,donotremove,thefourPhillipsscrews

locatedinthelowerhingeareathataremountedto

the cabinet.

CAUTION:Thedoorisbulkyandheavy.

Raise/lift the door until the screws align with the larger

slottedopeningsinthebottomofthehinge.

3. DetachthedoorhingefromCabinet.Laythedoor

downoncabinet.Disconnectthewirefrommulti-

terminalconnectorinmachinecompartmentand

removethedoor.

4. Reinstalldoorfollowstepsinreverse.Tighten all hinge

screwsbutavoidover-tighteningtopreventstripping.

Danslaplupartdesclimats,ilfautdégivrerl’appareilseulement

deuxfoisparannée.

Pour un fonctionnement efficace de votre congélateur, ne

laissezpass’accumulerplusde1/4po(6mm)d’épaisseurde

givre,enmoyenne,surlesclayettes.

N’utilisezpasderacloirenplastiquedurnidespatuleenbois

pourretirerlegivresurlaparoietaufondducongélateur.Cela

risqued’endommagerlasurfaceintérieure.Utilisezunlinge

douxouuneépongepourretirerlegivre.

N’utilisezpasd’eaubouillantecarellepeutendommagerle

congélateur.

Dégivrage complet

1. Tournezleréglagedetempératureà«OFF»(éteindre)et

débranchezlecongélateur.

2. Retireztouslesalimentsdel’appareiletplacez-lesdans

desboîtesencartonondulé,dessacsisolants,des

glacières,etc.Enveloppez-lesdansdescouverturesoudes

journauxpourlesisoler,aubesoin.

3. Placezunbac(noninclus)devantlecongélateur,sous

lebouchondevidangeextérieurafinderecueillirl’eau.

Retirezcomplètementlebouchondevidange.Tirezle

bouchondevidangeversl’extérieur.Cecipermettraàl’eau

de couler dans le bac.

REMARQUE :L’eauquis’estaccumuléedanslefond

ducongélateurpendantladégivragesevidangeradans

lebac.Surveillezcederniersousletroudevidangepour

prévenirledébordement.

4. Aveclecouvercleouvert,vouspouvezchoisird’utiliserune

casseroled’eauchaudedurobinet(moinsde49°C/120°F)

pouraccélérerledégivrage.Demême,vouspouvezdiriger

l’aird’unventilateurélectriquedanslecongélateurpour

accélérerledégivrage.Neplacezpasleventilateuroutout

autreappareilélectriquedanslecongélateur.Retirezles

grosmorceauxdeglaceavantqu’ilsnefondent.

5. Essuyezl’eaudesparoisàl’aided’uneservietteoud’une

éponge.

6. Aprèsledégivrage,nettoyezl’intérieurducongélateur(voir

lasectionEntretienetnettoyage).

7. Replacezlesbouchonsdevidange.

8. Branchezlecongélateur.Réglezànouveaulatempérature

sursapositionprécédenteetremettezlesalimentsdansle

congélateur.

lefininerouillerapasetconserverasonaspectneuf

pendantdesannées.Appliquezunecouchedecirepour

électroménagerslorsquevousrecevezvotreappareilet,

parlasuite,aumoinsdeuxfoisparannée.Lacirepour

électroménagersserévèleégalementefficacepourenlever

les résidus de ruban gommé sur les surfaces du congélateur.

Gardez le fini propre.Essuyez-leavecunlingepropre

légèrementhumectédecirepourélectroménagersoude

détergentliquidedouxpourlavaisselle.Essuyezetpolissez

avecunlingedouxetpropre.N’essuyezpaslecongélateur

avecunlingeàvaissellesaleouuneserviettehumide.

N’utilisezpasdetamponsàrécurer,deproduitsnettoyants

enpoudre,dejavellisantsoudeproduitsnettoyants

contenant du javellisant.

REMARQUE : Faites attention lorsque vous éloignez le

congélateurdumur,carvousrisquezd’endommagerle

revêtementdesol,plusparticulièrementceuxquisont

coussinés ou dont la surface est gaufrée.

■Intérieur. Nettoyezl’intérieurdevotrecongélateurau

moinsunefoisparannée.Nousvousrecommandonsde

Para un descongelamiento completo

1. GireelcontroldetemperaturahastalaconfiguraciónOff

(Apagado)ydesenchufeelfreezer.

2. Retiretodoslosalimentosycolóquelosencajas

corrugadas, bolsas aisladas, refrigeradores portátiles,

etc.Usetoallasyperiódicoscomoaislantes,segúnsea

necesario.

3. Coloqueunabandeja(noincluida)enelfrentedelfreezer,

debajodelenchufededrenajeexternopararecolectarel

agua. Retireeltapóndeldrenajeexteriorcompletamente.

Retireeltapóndeldrenajeinterior.Estopermitequeel

agua circule hacia fuera sobre la charola.

NOTA: Elaguaacumuladaenlaparteinferiordelfreezer

duranteladescongelaciónserádrenadaenlabandeja.

Controlelabandejaubicadabajoeldrenajeparaevitar

desbordes.

4. Con la tapa abierta, podrá optar por utilizar ollas con agua

calientedelgrifo(amenosde120ºF/49°C)paraacelerar

ladescongelación.Irigirelairedeunventiladoreléctrico

alfreezertambiénayudará.Nocoloqueelventiladoro

piezasgrandesantesdequesederritan.

5. Limpieelaguadelasparedesconunatoallaoesponja.

6. Despuésdeldescongelamiento,limpieelinteriordel

congelador(veaCuidadoylimpieza).

7. Reemplacelosenchufesdeldrenaje.

8. Enchufeelfreezer.Regreseelcontroldetemperaturaasu

posiciónpreviayvuelvaacolocarlacomidaenelfreezer.

■Exterior. Protejaelacabadodepintura.Elacabadodel

exterior del congelador es un acabado de pintura curada de

altacalidad.Conelcuidadoapropiado,seconservarácomo

nuevaysinóxidoduranteaños.Apliqueunacapadecera

parapuliraparatoscuandoelcongeladoresnuevoyluego,

porlomenosdosvecesalaño.Tambiénserecomiendausar

cera para pulir aparatos para retirar los residuos de cinta de

las superficies del congelador.

bisagras sobre sus posiciones.

2.Mantengalatapacerrada.InsertelasllavesAllenatravés

delosorificiosentodaslasbisagrasparaaliviarlatensión

delosresortes,demodoquelabisagrapermanezcaensu

posiciónoriginal.

3.MantengalasllavesAllenenposición.Retirelos4tornillos

desde la parte superior de la bisagra.

elcompartimientodelamáquina.Retirelapuerta.

5.Vuelvaainstalarlapuertasiguiendolospasosenreverso.
