with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other
abrasive materials.

20. Use only the Cuisinart commercial-style filter
or standard basket paper filter with this unit.

THE COFFEEMAKER TO OVERFLOW.
21. Do not operate your appliance in an appliance
garage or under a wall cabinet. When storing
in an appliance garage, always unplug the
unit from the electrical outlet. Not doing
so could create a risk of fire, especially if the
appliance touches the walls of the garage or
the door touches the unit as it closes.
22. Snap lid securely onto carafe before serving
any beverages.
23. This appliance is not intended for use by
persons (including children) with reduced

SPECIAL CORD SET
INSTRUCTIONS
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce
the risks resulting from becoming entangled in or
tripping over a longer cord.
Extension cords may be used if care is exercised
in their use.
If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical
rating of the extension cord must be at least as
great as the electrical rating of the appliance, and
the longer cord should be arranged so that it will
not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it
can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
NOTICE
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is
wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric
shock, this plug will fit into a polarized outlet
only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into
the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit,
contact a qualified electrician. Do not modify the
plug in any way.
OPERATING NOTICE
Clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee
in the filter basket can occur under any or a
combination of any of the following conditions:
The use of too finely ground coffee; using two
or more paper filters; using the nylon filter in
conjunction with a paper filter; not properly
cleaning coffee grounds from the nylon filter; or
allowing coffee grounds to spill over the filter.
Caution: Never open the filter basket during the
brewing cycle, even if no water is draining from
the filter basket, because extremely hot water/
coffee can spill out from the filter basket and
cause injury. If water/coffee is not draining from
the filter basket during the brewing cycle, unplug
the unit and wait 10 minutes before opening and
checking the filter basket.

THE QUEST FOR
THE PERFECT CUP
OF COFFEE
ELEMENT 1: WATER
Coffee is 98% water. The quality of that
water is as important as the quality of your
coffee. If water doesn’t taste good from
the tap, it won’t taste good in your coffee.
Cuisinart includes a charcoal water filter to
remove chlorine, bad tastes and odors, for
the purest coffee flavor, every time you brew.
ELEMENT 2: COFFEE
While coffee is 98% water, all of the flavor
comes from the beans. To achieve the same
great taste you enjoy at a coffee bar, you
need to use the same quality of coffee. If you
choose to grind your own beans, buy them
fresh and whole. Buy only about a two-week
supply at a time, because once the bean is
broken, its flavor degrades quickly.
ELEMENT 3: GRIND
The grind is critical for proper flavor
extraction. If the grind is too fine, over-
extraction and bitterness will result. Too fine
a grind may also clog the filter. If the grind is
too coarse, the water will pass through too
quickly and the maximum flavor will not be
extracted. When grinding your own beans,
we recommend a medium-fine grind.
ELEMENT 4: PROPORTION
Coffee that is too strong or too weak
is always a disappointment. Follow the
recommended portions of ground coffee in
the instructions under Brewing Coffee, and
later adjust the amount to suit your taste.
NOTE: The maximum capacity for ground
coffee is 15 scoops (15 tablespoons) for
this 60 oz. (twelve 5 oz. cups) coffeemaker.
Exceeding this amount may cause overflow.
NOTE: For this coffeemaker, a cup of coffee
is 5 oz.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place the box on a large, sturdy, flat surface.
2. Remove the instruction book and any
other literature.
3. Turn the box so that the back side of
the coffeemaker is down and slide the
coffeemaker from the box.
4. After the coffeemaker has been removed,
place the box out of the way and lift off the
packing material.
5. Grasp the carafe by its handle, remove it from
the heating plate and remove the polybag.
6. Remove the polybag covering from the
coffeemaker and lift the coffeemaker off the
remaining inserts.
Save all packing materials in case you have to
ship the machine in the future.

PROGRAMMING YOUR
COFFEEMAKER
TO SET THE TIME
Press and hold the HOUR or MINUTE button.
The clock will begin flashing.
1. Set Hour: Press and hold the HOUR button to
scroll through numbers quickly. When desired
number approaches, press and release the
button to advance one digit at a time.
NOTE: When the number count passes 12 PM
will be displayed on the LCD. Be sure the PM
indicator is on if a PM time is desired.
2. Set Minutes: Press and hold the MINUTE
button to scroll through numbers quickly.
When desired number approaches, press and
release the button to advance one digit at a
time. To finish setting time, simply wait until
the numbers stop flashing.
TO PROGRAM THE AUTO ON TIME
(BREW START TIME)
1. To set up the time for Auto On, hold the PROG
button until clock begins to flash. Set the time
you want coffee to begin brewing by using the
MINUTE and HOUR buttons.
Note: To use the previously selected Auto
On time again for Programming, simply press
PROG button once. The coffeemaker will
remember the time set previously unless
unplugged for more than 1 minute.
2. To activate Auto On mode, press the
PROG button and release. The blue PROG
indicator light will turn on to remind you that
the programming function is in use. At the
programmed time, the blue indicator light will
turn off and the blue BREW/OFF indicator light
will turn on, indicating that the brew cycle is
starting. The blue indicator light of BREW/
OFF button will turn off when Keep Warm
cycle ends.
NOTE: To turn off the Programming Function,
press the PROG button once. The blue PROG
indicator light should turn off.
BEFORE BREWING YOUR
FIRST POT OF COFFEE
We recommend flushing out the system before
brewing your first pot of coffee. Simply fill the
reservoir and power on the unit, following steps #2,
#4, #5 and #6 in BREWING COFFEE instructions on
the next page.
DO NOT ADD COFFEE!
Once you’ve done that, brew a pot
of coffee and get ready to enjoy
Cuisinart at its best!
CHARCOAL WATER FILTER
Your coffeemaker comes with a charcoal
water filter that eliminates chlorine, bad
tastes and odors from tap water.
Inserting the Water Filter
• Remove the filter from the polybag and
soak it, fully immersed, in cold tap water
for 15 minutes.
• Lift the water filter holder out of the water
reservoir (see diagram, page 5).
• Press down on the filter compartment and
pull toward you to open.
• Place filter into the holder and snap it
closed. Be careful – improper placement
can tear the filter skin.
• Flush filter by running cold
tap water through holes in
bottom of compartment for
10 seconds.
• Allow the filter to drain
completely.
• Slide the water filter holder
back into the channel in the
water reservoir, pu shing it
down to the base of the unit.
NOTE: We recommend
changing the water filter every
60 days or after
60 uses, and more often
if you have hard water.

POWER LOSS BACKUP SYSTEM
One-minute protection in case a breaker trips, the
unit is unplugged, or the power fails. It holds all
programmed information, including time of day,
Auto On time and Auto Off time.
ADJUSTING THE AUTO OFF FEATURE
After the coffeemaker finishes a brew cycle,
the heating plate underneath the carafe is
programmed to keep your coffee warm for 2
hours (default time) and then automatically shut
off. The Auto Off feature can be adjusted so that
the keep warm time can last between 0-2 hours.
To change the automatic shut off time, follow the
instructions below:
1. Press and hold the BREW/OFF button for two
seconds, until the blue BREW/OFF indicator
and the clock display begin flashing.
2. The LCD display will show the program default
time at 2:00, and will be flashing.
3. Press the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to
program your coffeemaker to automatically
shut off from 0-2 hours.
Note: The Auto Off time ca n only be programmed
before brewing.
BREWING COFFEE
Before your first brew, please follow
instructions in previous page - Before Brewing
Your First Pot of Coffee.

a #4 paper filter or
permanent nylon filter.
Be sure that a paper
filter is completely
open and fully inserted
in the basket. It may
help to fold and flatten
the seams of a paper
filter beforehand. Add
1 level scoop (1 tablespoon) of ground
coffee per cup. Adjust the amount
according to taste.
NOTE: The maximum capacity for ground
coffee is 15 scoops (15 tablespoons) for
this coffeemaker. Exceeding this amount
may cause overflow if the coffee is too
finely ground.
Replace the filter basket in the filter basket
holder and press firmly on cover to be sure it
closes securely.
4. Before brewing coffee
Make sure the glass carafe is in position on
the heating plate and the top cover is closed.
5. Begin brewing
Press the BREW/OFF button, and the blue
indicator light will turn on. Or, set the Auto
On function (see page 7) and the Auto On
indicator light will turn on.
NOTE: Press and release the BREW/OFF
button again to turn off brewing at any time.
6. When the brewing cycle is complete, 5 beeps
will sound. Coffee will continue to stream from
the filter for several seconds.
7. After brewing cycle is complete, coffeemaker
will enter Keep Warm function. Heating plate
will keep carafe warm for up to 2 hours.
NOTE: Reservoir cover may be hot during
and directly after brewing. Wait at least 10
minutes before opening.
BREW PAUSE
™
FEATURE
This feature interrupts the flow of coffee from the
basket to let you pour that first cup mid-brew.
Because the flavor profile of coffee brewed at the
start of a cycle differs from that brewed toward the
end, be aware that using this feature will weaken the
flavor strength of the finished pot.
NOTE: Removing carafe for more than 20 seconds
may cause filter basket to overflow.

CLEANING AND
MAINTENANCE
Always turn coffeemaker off and remove the plug
from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
Remove and discard the paper filter and ground
coffee. The filter basket can be washed in warm,
soapy water and rinsed thoroughly, or cleaned
in the upper rack of the dishwasher. Dry all parts
after use.
Do not put any water in the unit once the filter
basket has been removed. Wipe the area
under the filter basket with a damp cloth.
Remove the carafe from the heating plate. Discard
any remaining coffee. The carafe and lid can
be washed in warm, soapy water and rinsed
thoroughly, or placed in a dishwasher. The carafe
should be placed on the upper rack. If hand-
washing the carafe, carefully hand-dry or air-dry
carafe in an upright position.
Never immerse base unit in water or other liquids.
To clean base, simply wipe with a clean, damp
cloth and dry before storing. Fingerprints and
other blemishes on the housing can be washed
off with soap and water or a nonabrasive
cleaning solution.
Wipe heating plate with a clean, damp cloth.
Never use rough, abrasive materials or cleansers
to clean the heater plate or any part of the
coffeemaker.
Do not dry the inside of the water reservoir with a
cloth, as lint may remain.
The nylon filter may have some discoloration after
a few uses even if rinsed thoroughly. This will not
impact taste and quality of coffee.
MAINTENANCE
Any other servicing should be performed by an
authorized service representative.
DECALCIFICATION
Decalcification refers to the removal of calcium
deposits that form over time on the metal parts of
the coffeemaker.
For best performance from your coffeemaker,
decalcify the base unit from time to time.
The frequency depends upon the hardness
of your tap water and how often you use the
coffeemaker.
NOTE: Before decalcifying your coffeemaker,
remember to remove the charcoal water filter
from the water filter holder located in the water
reservoir.
If the Clean indicator light is lit when the
coffeemaker is plugged in, it is telling you that the
calcium buildup is interfering with the functioning
of your coffeemaker and the flavor of your coffee.
To turn off the Clean indicator light, press the
CLEAN button once. The Clean indicator light
will turn off and regular brew cycle can start. The
Clean indicator light will turn on again if a Clean
cycle is not run.
To decalcify, fill the water reservoir to capacity
with a mixture of ⁄
white vinegar and ⁄
water.
Press the CLEAN button for two seconds. The
Clean indicator light will begin to flash which
means the coffeemaker is now in Clean mode and
will start the clean cycle
One cycle should be sufficient to adequately clean
the coffeemaker. When the cycle is completed
and the 5 beeps sound, the coffeemaker will shut
off. Turn the coffeemaker on to see if the Clean
indicator continues to shine. If it does, then repeat
the cleaning procedure with a fresh solution of
vinegar and water.
If the Clean LED is no longer lit, run one cycle of
fresh, cold water through the coffeemaker before
using it again.
If your coffeemaker begins to brew slowly or there
is residual water left over in the reservoir after
a brew cycle, be sure to use the decalcification
process above.
Notes on the Clean Function
Pressing the CLEAN button cancels all other
settings. If it is pressed accidentally, press
it again to return the coffeemaker to all its
previous settings.

only. You are a consumer if you own a Cuisinart

12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker that was
purchased at retail for personal, family or
household use. Except as otherwise required
under applicable law, this warranty is not available
to retailers or other commercial purchasers or
owners. We warrant that your Cuisinart
®
12-Cup
Programmable Coffeemaker will be free of defects
in materials and workmanship under normal home
use for 3 years from the date of original purchase.
We recommend that you visit our website,
www.cuisinart.com, for a fast, efficient way to
complete your product registration. However,
product registration does not eliminate the need
for the consumer to maintain the original proof of
purchase in order to obtain the warranty benefits.
In the event that you do not have proof of
purchase date, the purchase date for purposes of
this warranty will be the date of manufacture.
CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS ONLY
California law provides that for In-Warranty
Service, California residents have the option of
returning a nonconforming product (A) to the
store where it was purchased or (B) to another
retail store that sells Cuisinart products of the
same type. The retail store shall then, according
to its preference, either repair the product, refer
the consumer to an independent repair facility,
replace the product, or refund the purchase
price less the amount directly attributable to the
consumer’s prior usage of the product. If neither
of the above two options results in the appropriate
relief to the consumer, the consumer may then
take the product to an independent repair
facility, if service or repair can be economically

USO DE ALARGADORES
El cable provisto con este aparato es corto, para
reducir el riesgo de que alguien se enganche o
tropiece con un cable más largo.
Puede usarse un cable alargador/de extensión,
pero con cuidado.
La clasificación nominal del cable alargador/de
extensión debe ser por lo menos igual a la del
aparato. El cable más largo debe ser acomodado
de tal manera que no cuelgue de la encimera/
mesa, donde puede ser jalado por niños o causar
tropiezos.

SUGERENCIAS PARA
LA PREPRACIÓN
DE UN BUEN CAFÉ
ELEMENTO 1: EL AGUA
El café está constituido por un 98 % de
agua. Por lo tanto, la calidad del agua es tan
importante como la del café. Si el agua tiene
mal sabor, el café tendrá mal sabor. Por eso
Cuisinart equipó su cafetera con un filtro de
agua de carbón que elimina el cloro y el mal
sabor y olor, para preparar café puro, taza
tras taza.
ELEMENTO 2: EL CAFÉ
Aunque la mayor parte del brebaje es agua,
el sabor proviene del café. Para preparar un
brebaje de calidad, debe usar ingredientes
de calidad. Elija café fresco, en granos
enteros. Compre un suministro de aprox.
dos semanas a la vez, no más, porque
una vez molidos los granos, su sabor se
deteriora rápidamente.
ELEMENTO 3: EL GRADO
DE LA MOLIENDA
La molienda es primordial para preservar
el sabor del café. Café molido demasiado
fino producirá un café amargo. También
puede atascar el filtro. Café molido muy
grueso dejará pasar el agua demasiado
rápidamente, lo que producirá un café
aguado. Le aconsejamos que use un grado
de molienda medio-fino.
ELEMENTO 4: LAS
PROPORCIONES
Para que el café sea perfecto, ni muy débil
ni muy fuerte, se debe usar la proporción
adecuada de café y agua. Siga las pautas
en la sección “Operación” y ajuste las
proporciones al gusto.
NOTA: Esta cafetera de 12 tazas (1.75 L) tiene

PROGRAMACIÓN
CÓMO FIJAR LA HORA
Mantenga presionado el botón HR o MIN;
la hora empezará a parpadear.
1. Fije la hora: Mantenga presionado el botón
HR para desplazarse por las horas más
rápidamente. Cuando llegue cerca del número
deseado, suelte el botón y avance un número
a la vez.
NOTA: Cuando la hora pase de 12 del día, el
indicador “PM” aparecerá en la pantalla.
Cerciórese de que el indicador “PM” aparece
en la pantalla si desea fijar una hora de tarde/
noche.
2. Fije los minutos: Mantenga presionado el
botón MIN para desplazarse por los minutos
más rápidamente. Cuando llegue cerca del
número deseado, suelte el botón y avance
un número a la vez. Para confirmar la hora
programada, espere hasta que los números
dejen de parpadear.
PARA PROGRAMAR EL
ENCENDIDO AUTOMÁTICO
1. Para programar la hora de encendido
automático, presione el botón PROG hasta
que la hora empiece a parpadear. Luego, use
los botones HR y MIN para fijar la hora de
encendido deseada,
Nota: Para usar el programa de encendido
automático anterior, simplemente presione el
botón PROG una vez. La cafetera recordará la
hora fijada anteriormente (a menos haya sido
desenchufada por más de 1 minuto).
2. Para activar el encendido automático,
presione el botón PROG una vez; el
indicador luminoso azul del botón PROG
se encenderá para indicar que la hora de
encendido automático está programada. A
la hora prefijada, el indicador luminoso azul
se apagará, el indicador luminoso azul del
botón BREW/ OFF se encenderá y el ciclo de
preparación empezará. El indicador luminoso
azul del botón BREW/OFF se apagará al final
del ciclo “mantener caliente”.
NOTA: Para desactivar la programación,
presione el botón PROG una vez; el indicador
luminoso azul del botón PROG se apagará.
ANTES DEL PRIMER USO

FILTRO DE AGUA DE CARBÓN
Su cafetera cuenta con un filtro de agua de
carbón que elimina el cloro y el mal olor/
sabor del agua corriente.
Instalación del filtro de agua
• Retire el filtro de la bolsa de plástico y
remójelo en agua fría por 15 minutos.
• Levante el soporte del filtro que se
encuentra en el depósito de agua de la
cafetera (véase la página 5).
• Abra el soporte, jalando la base.
• Instale el filtro en el soporte y cierre este.
Haga esto con mucho con cuidado; si
no instala el filtro de manera correcta, la
membrana del filtro puede romperse.
• Enjuague el filtro en agua
fría por 10 segundos para
limpiarlo, con las aberturas
directamente bajo el flujo
de agua.
• Permita que el filtro se
seque por completo.
• Vuelva a colocar el soporte
del filtro en el depósito,
empujándolo hasta el fondo.

SISTEMA DE PROTECCIÓN CONTRA
FALLA ELÉCTRICA
Provee una protección de un minuto en caso
de interrupción del suministro eléctrico,
guardando la información programada, incluso
la hora, la hora de encendido automático y el
tiempo de apagado automático.
CÓMO AJUSTAR EL
APAGADO AUTOMÁTICO
Su cafetera está programada para mantener
el café caliente por 2 horas después de la
preparación. Después de este tiempo, la placa
calentadora se apagará automáticamente. Sin
embargo, el tiempo de apagado automático
puede ajustarse para que la placa calentadora se
apague desde 0 hasta 2 hora después del final
del ciclo de preparación. Para cambiar el tiempo
de apagado automático, siga las instrucciones a
continuación.
1. Mantenga presionado el botón BREW/OFF
por 2 segundos, hasta que el indicador
luminoso azul del botón BREW/OFF azul y la
hora empiecen a parpadear;
2. “2:00” (el tiempo por defecto) aparecerá en la
pantalla, parpadeando.
3. Use los botones HR y MIN para elegir un
nuevo tiempo de apagado automático, desde
0 hasta 2 horas.
NOTA: El tiempo de apagado automático solo
puede programarse antes del inicio del ciclo
de preparación.
OPERACIÓN

intensidad cambian durante el ciclo de preparación.
NOTA: La función Brew Pause

detiene
el flujo durante solamente 20 segundos; no saque
la jarra por más tiempo.

6. Al final de la preparación, el aparato emitirá
cinco pitidos. El café seguirá bajando por
varios segundos.
7. Al final del ciclo de preparación, la cafetera
ingresará al ciclo “mantener caliente”. La
placa calentadora permanecerá caliente por
hasta 2 horas.
NOTA: Puede que la tapa del depósito
de agua esté caliente durante e
inmediatamente después de la preparación;
permita que se enfríe por un mínimo de 10
minutos antes de abrir el depósito.
LIMPIEZA Y
MANTENIMIENTO
Siempre apague y desenchufe el aparato antes
de limpiarlo.
Saque y tire el filtro de papel. El portafiltros puede
lavarse a mano, con detergente y agua tibia, o en
la bandeja superior del lavavajillas. Permita que
todas las piezas se sequen.
No vierta agua en la unidad después de haber
sacado el portafiltros. Limpie el área bajo el
portafiltros con un paño húmedo.
Saque la jarra de la placa calentadora. Tire o
refrigere el café restante. Lave la jarra y la tapa de
la jarra a mano, con agua tibia y detergente, o en
la bandeja superior del lavavajillas. Si lava la jarra
a mano, séquela con cuidado o déjela secar al
aire, en posición vertical.
No sumerja la base en agua ni en ningún otro
líquido. Limpie la base con un paño húmedo y
séquela antes de guardar el aparato. Las huellas
dactilares y otras manchas pueden quitarse con
agua y detergente, o con una solución limpiadora
no abrasiva.
Limpie la placa calentadora con un paño húmedo.
Nunca use materiales ásperos o limpiadores
abrasivos para limpiar la placa u cualquier parte
de la cafetera.
No seque el interior del depósito de agua con
un paño ya que esto puede dejar pelusas en
el mismo.
El filtro de nylon puede tener algo de decoloración
después de algunos usos, incluso si se enjuaga
cuidadosamente. Esto no afectará al sabor ni la
calidad del café.
MANTENIMIENTO
Cualquier otro servicio debe ser realizado por un
técnico/representante de servicio autorizado.
DESCALCIFICACIÓN
Con el tiempo, depósitos de calcio/sarro se
acumulan en las partes metálicas de la cafetera.
Para un rendimiento óptimo, deberá descalcificar
la unidad regularmente. La frecuencia de la
limpieza dependerá de la dureza del agua y de la
frecuencia de uso de la cafetera.
NOTA: Siempre saque el filtro de agua de carbón
del soporte antes de descalcificar la unidad.
Si el indicador luminoso del botón CLEAN se
enciende, esto significa que el calcio/sarro está
afectando el desempeño de la cafetera y el sabor
del café. Para apagar el indicador luminoso,
presione el botón CLEAN una vez; el indicador
luminoso se apagará y el ciclo de preparación
puede empezar. Tenga presente que el indicador
luminoso del botón CLEAN se volverá a encender
hasta que realice un ciclo de descalcificación.
Para descalcificar la unidad, llene el depósito
de agua hasta la capacidad máxima con ⁄
de
vinagre blanco y ⁄
de agua. Presione el botón
CLEAN por dos segundos; el indicador luminoso
del botón CLEAN empezará a parpadear para
indicar el ciclo de limpieza ha empezado.
Un ciclo debería ser suficiente para descalcificar
la unidad. Al final del ciclo de descalcificación
(indicado por 5 pitidos), la cafetera se apagará.
Encienda la cafetera para chequear si el indicador
luminoso del botón CLEAN sigue encendido. Si
lo es, haga un segundo ciclo de descalcificación
con una nueva mezcla de agua/vinagre.
Si está apagado, repita estos pasos con un
depósito de agua fresca antes de volver a usar la
unidad para preparar café.
Si la cafetera empieza a funcionar lentamente o
si queda agua residual en el depósito de agua
después del ciclo de preparación, también
descalcifique la unidad según se indicó
anteriormente.
NOTA: Presionar el botón CLEAN cancelará
todos los ajustes de programación de la cafetera.
Si lo presiona por accidente, presiónelo otra
vez para que la cafetera vuelva a todos los
ajustes anteriores.
