Riding MowerStorage
If yourridingmowerisnotgoingto beoperatedforanextendedperiodof time
(thirty daysto approximatelysixmonths),theridingmowershouldbepreparedfor
storage.Storetheridingmowerinadry andprotectedlocation.If storedoutside,
coverthe ridingmower(includingthetires)to protectit from theelements.The
proceduresoutlinedbelowshouldbeperformedwheneverthe ridingmoweris
placedinstorage.
1. Changetheengineoil andfilter followingthe instructionsprovidedin the
ServiceandMaintenancesectionofthismanual.

pilot light asonafurnace,water heater,dothes dryer,etc.
If storingtheridingmowerfor 30daysor more:
a. Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetor
andcausingpossiblemalfunctionof theengine,thefuelsystemmust
beeithercompletelyemptied,orthegasolinemustbetreatedwitha
stabilizerto preventdeterioration.

Fuelleft inthe fuel tank deterioratesandwill causeseriousstarting
problems.
b. Usingafuelstabilizer:
Readtheproductmanufacturer'sinstructionsand
recommendations.
Addto clean,freshgasolinethe correctamountof stabilizerforthe
capacity(approximately3gallons)of thefuelsystem.
Fillthefuel tankwith treatedfuel andrunthe enginefor 2-3
minutesto getstabilizedfuelinto thecarburetor.
c. Emptyingthe fuel system:
Priorto puttingthe ridingmowerin storage,monitorfuel
consumptionwiththe goal ofrunningthefuel tankempty.
Starttheengineandallowit to runout of fuel.Thiswill preventgum
andvarnishdepositsfromforming.
Removethesparkplugsandpourapproximatelyoneounceof oilinto each
cylinder.Cranktheengineoneortwo turnsto spreadtheoil evenlyonthe
cylinderwalls.Replacethe sparkplugs.
Cleantheengineandtheentireridingmowerthoroughly.
NOTE:Useof apressurewasheror gardenhoseisnot recommendedto
cleanyourridingmower.Theymaycausedamageto electricalcomponents,
spindles,pulleys,bearingsor theengine.Theuseof waterwill resultin
shortenedlifeandreduceserviceability.
5. Sharpenthe bladessothatthemowerwill bereadyto usewhenneeded.
6. Protectthe metalsurfaces.Repairscratcheswith the appropriatetouch-up
spraypaint.Brusha rustpreventiveoil on anyunpaintedsurfacesincluding
the pulleysandblades.(Becarefulnotto getanyoil on thedrivebelts.)
7. Cleanandfully chargethe battery,thendisconnectthenegativecableat
the batteryto preventpossibledischarge.Rechargethebatteryperiodically
whenin storage.
NOTE:Removethebatteryif exposedto prolongedperiodsof sub-freezing
temperatures.Storeinacool,dry locationwheretemperaturesareabove
freezing.
8. Lubricateall lubricationpoints.
9. Jackthe mowerup andstoreit onblocksto taketheweightoffof the tires.
Removingthe RidingMowerfrom Storage
1. Checktheengineoil.
2. Fullychargethe battery,lowerridingmoweroff blocks,andinflatethetires
to therecommendedpressure.
3. Removethe sparkplugsandwipethemoff. Usingthe starter,crankthe
engineto pumptheexcessoil out of thesparkplug holes.Replacethespark
plugsandtheignitionleads.
4. Ifdrainedbeforestoring,fill the fueltank withclean,freshgasoline.
5. Checkthe levelof theengineoil inthe crankcaseandthehydraulicreservoir
tank.
6. Startthe engineandallowto idlefor afewminutesto ensureengineis
operatingproperly.
7. Drivethe ridingmowerwithouta loadto makecertainall the ridingmower
systemsarefunctioningproperly.
