DIRECTIONS FOR USE
USE RESTRICTIONS:
Only for outdoor use as a mosquito repellent. Do
not use indoors, in tents or in any enclosed area.
Do not insert anything other than Thermacell®
mats into the repeller. Cover or remove all
exposed food. Do not leave repeller unattended
or use in windy conditions. Do not expose
repeller or mats to rain. Place repeller on a flat,
stable surface with the grill facing upward. Do
not touch the grill; it will be hot after a couple of
minutes. Clean with a damp cloth only when the
repeller is cool and inactive.
STEP 1
TO USE THE MOSQUITO REPELLENT
1. INSERT REPELLENT MAT
Remove one Thermacell® Mosquito
Repellent mat from wrapper. Insert the
mat under the black grill.
STEP 3
3. TURN ON
Flip the ‘ON/OFF’ switch to the ‘ON’
position; the fuel will begin to flow. Wait
approximately 3-5 seconds then pinch
the start tab towards the grill until it
clicks. Look through view hole on the
side panel to verify there is an orange
glow indicating repeller is on.
4. TURN OFF
Flip the ‘ON/OFF’ switch to the ‘OFF’
position. Grill and top area may be hot.
Allow the appliance to cool completely.
Remove the canister by turning counter
clockwise. Replace cap. Store in travel
bag provided

TO REPLACE THERMACELL REPELLENT MAT
Mats turn from pale blue to white when
repellent depleted. Turn appliance OFF.
Allow grill to cool. Push the used mat out
by inserting a new mat.

STEP 2
2. ATTACH CANISTER
Remove the repeller rubber cap. Remove
the canister cap if present. Keep canister
in upright position. Screw the appliance
into the top of the canister. Make sure
canister is fully inserted by turning it
until it stops. Do not over tighten.
TROUBLESHOOTING
If you do not see an orange glow through
view window
1. Repeat directions “To Turn ON”
2. If there is still no orange light visible, make
sure the canister is completely screwed
into place. Repeat “Turn On” directions.
Confirm the orange glow is visible.
3. Check the amount of fuel in the canister. If
canister is empty or near empty, remove
canister and replace with a new canister.
Repeat “Turn On” directions. Confirm the
orange glow is visible.
4. May not work at elevations over 2300m.
Not sure it’s working.
5. Place product upwind for maximum
repellency. Windy conditions can reduce
effectiveness.
6. Check the repellent mat. Mats turn from
pale blue to white when repellent has been
depleted. See directions to replace
Thermacell repellent mat.
7. Check the amount of fuel in the canister. If
canister is empty or near empty, remove
canister and replace with a new canister.
Repeat “Turn On” directions. Confirm the
orange glow is visible.

USEFUL TIPS
• For best results, allow 10 to 30 minutes,
depending upon the size of the area, for
product to take effect and repel mosquitoes.
• This product works best in outdoor areas
where there is minimal air movement, such
as yards and outdoor campsites.
• Each Thermacell mat lasts a maximum of
4 hours.
• Mats turn from pale blue to white when
repellent has been depleted and needs to be
replaced.
• Some visible vapor will appear during use;
this is normal. Use additional repellers to
cover a larger area.
• Canister works best in altitudes under
2300 metres. High altitudes may effect
performance.
• Keep fuel interface rubber cap in place when
not in use.

before connecting it to its gas container. Keep these instructions for future reference.

STORAGE AND DISPOSAL
Store in the closed, original container in a cool,
dry place out of reach of children. Do not store in
direct sunlight. Store unused mats in original
packaging in a cool, dry place inaccessible to
children and pets. Store gas cartridges in a cool,
dry place away from sources of heat. Do not
reuse empty envelopes. Wrap used mats and gas
cartridges and place in garbage. Do not
incinerate cartridges.

GAS USE & SAFETY
This appliance shall only be used with 70%
Butane / 30% Propane Mix Gas Cartridges
certified to Standard EN 417.
It may be hazardous to attempt to fit other types
of gas containers.
Only use in well-ventilated areas.
Carbon monoxide hazard—using this appliance in
an enclosed space may cause death. Do not use
in caravans, tents, marine craft, cars, mobile
homes or similar locations.
Do not modify this appliance.
Do not use this appliance if it is leaking, damaged
or does not operate properly.
Replace gas canister in a well-ventilated location,
preferably outside away from people and any
sources of ignition, such as naked flames, pilot
flames, electric heaters/equipment.
When using this appliance, ensure there is at
least a 30cm clearance from adjacent surfaces.
It is recommended the unit is inspected and if
necessary, cleaned following each use.
Keep unit clean and dry. This unit is not user
repairable.
Check the seals between the appliance and gas
container are in place and good condition before
connecting the gas container. Do not use this
appliance if it has damaged or worn seals. Gas
canisters shall be changed in a well-ventilated
location preferably away from people and any
sources of ignition, such as naked flames, pilot
flames, electric heaters, equipment.
In the event you smell gas, switch Backpacker off.
Remove and refit gas canister in the event it
hadn’t been fitted properly. If there is a gas leak

from your appliance (smell of gas) and you
cannot stop the gas flow, remove the
appliance to a well-ventilated location away
from any ignition source. Check for leaks
using soapy water. Do not try to detect leaks
using a flame. This appliance must only be
serviced by an authorised person.
Do not move appliance during operation. The
canister is empty when you cannot hear any
liquid in the canister by gentle movement of
the canister when the appliance is
disconnected.
For proper fuel flow, tighten unit onto gas
canister until the orange threaded adapter
makes contact with rim of canister.
