Switching on manually
1. Press the control knob for the selected burner and
turn it anticlockwise to the highest power setting.
2. Hold an igniter or a naked flame (such as a lighter or
a match) against the burner.
Automatic ignition
If the hob has automatic ignition (ignition plugs):
1. Press the control knob for the selected burner and
turn it anticlockwise to the highest power level.
While the control knob is held down, all the burners
will generate sparks. The flame ignites. Wait a few
seconds.
2. Release the control knob.
3. Turn the control knob to the required position.
If the burner does not ignite, switch it off and repeat the
steps described above. This time, hold the control knob
down for longer (up to 10 seconds).
:Warning – Risk of deflagration!
If the flame does not ignite after 15 seconds, switch off
the burner and open a window or the door to the room.
Wait at least one minute before switching the burner on
again.
Note: It is important to keep the appliance clean. If the
ignition plugs are dirty, this may cause ignition
problems. Clean the ignition plugs regularly with a
small, non-metallic brush. Take care to prevent the
ignition plugs from suffering any heavy knocks.
Safety system
Your hob is equipped with a safety system
(thermocouple) that cuts off the gas when the burners
are accidentally switched off.
To ensure that this device is active:
1. Switch on the burner as usual.
2. Without releasing the control knob, press and hold it
down firmly for 4 seconds after lighting the flame.
Switching off a burner
Turn the corresponding control knob clockwise to the 0
setting.
A few seconds after the burner is switched off, a sound
(thud) will be produced. This is not a fault - this means
that the safety device is no longer operating.
Warnings
It is normal to hear a soft whistling noise while the
burner is operating.
When first used, it is normal for the burner to give off
odours. This does not pose any risk and does not
indicate a malfunction. They will disappear in time.
Additional espresso maker
grid
Only suitable for use on the
smallest burner. Use cookware
with a diameter of less than
12 cm.
Simmer plate
This accessory part is only suita-
ble for simmering. It can be
used with the economy burner
or the standard-output burner. If
your hob has several standard-
output burners, we recommend
placing the simmer plate on the
rear or front-right standard-out-
put burner.
Place the accessory component
with the projections facing
upwards on the holder; never
place it directly on the burner.
Simmer cap
Only use the burner for cooking
with minimal power. Remove
the economy burner and
replace it with the simmer cap.
Always place cookware on the
pan support, never directly on
the simmer cap.

An orange-coloured flame is normal. This is caused by
the presence of dust in the atmosphere, spilt liquids,
etc.
If the burner flames are accidentally blown out, switch
off the burner operating control knob and do not try to
relight it for at least 1 minute.

Before using for the first time
To eliminate the new-appliance smell, leave the electric
hotplate switched on in position 4 without cookware for
15 minutes. During initial operation, smoke and odours
may be released but these will disappear over time.
:Warning – Risk of harm to health!
When heating up the hotplate for the first time, vapour is
released which may lead to irritation of the mucous
membranes. During this process, ensure that the
kitchen is well ventilated. Keep children, pets and
particularly vulnerable people away from the room.
Caution!
Do not operate the hotplates without placing pans on
top, except during this initial heating phase.
Operation
Switching on
Turn the control knob anticlockwise to the required
setting. The operation indicator will light up.
Setting 1: low power.
Setting 9: full power.
Note: It is recommended to start cooking on full power
and then to use intermediate power levels after a few
minutes.
Switching off
Turn the control knob clockwise to the off setting. The
operation indicator will switch off.
Residual heat
The electric hob can be switched off slightly before the
end of the cooking time. The residual heat will enable
you to continue cooking for several minutes, thus
saving energy.
Precautions for use
The following advice is intended to help you save
energy and prevent cookware damage:
Use a pan with thick flat base.
Use pans which are suitably sized for the hotplate.
The diameter of the base of the pan should match
that of the hotplate, and should not be smaller.
Do not allow liquids to be spilt on the surface of the
electric hob. Use deep pans when cooking with
large quantities of liquid.
The hob must be kept dry. Salt water and wet pans
can damage the hob. Do not cook with wet pans.
Cooking guidelines
The following suggestions are intended as a guide only.
Increase the power for:
large quantities of liquid,
preparation of large dishes,
uncovered pans.
