HEATERS]:Propane(L.R)gasisheavierthanair.Shouldthere
be a leak in the system,the gaswill settle near the ground.
Basements,crawl spaces,skirtedareasunder mobile homes
(evenwhenventilated),closetsandareasbelowgroundlevelwill
serve as pocketsfor the accumulation of this gas.Before
attemptingto lightor relight thewaterheater'spilotor turning
on anearbyelectricallightswitch,beabsolutelysurethere isno
accumulatedgasinthearea.Searchforodorofgasbysniffingat
groundlevelin the vicinityof the appliance.If odorisdetected,
followstepsindicatedat "For YourSafety"onthecoverpageof
this manualthen leavethe premises.
Lighting and operating instructions are located on front of the
water heater, above or to one side of the gas control valve.

IF YOU SMELLGAS:
• Do not try to lightanyappliance.
• Do not touchanyelectricalswitch;do not useanyphonein

• Immediatelycallyourgassupplierfrom a neighbor'sphone.
Followthegassuppliersinstructions.
• If you cannotreach yourgassupplier,call the fire depart-
ment.
A WARNING
DO NOT force the gascontrolknob, Use onlyyour handto
pushit downto lightthe pilot,or to tom it to "ON", "OFF"
or "PILOT". Never usea tool suchasa lever,wrenchor pli-
ers. Do not hit or damagethe knob.A damagedknobmay
result in an explosionand serious injury.If youhaveproblem
turningthe knob, callthegassupplierimmediately.
CHECK FOR LEAKS
Be sure to check all your gas pipes for leaks before lighting your
water heater. Use a soapy water solution, not a match or open
flame. Check the factory gas fittings after pilot is lit and gas con-
trol knob is still in "PILOT" position. Then, check the fittings
when the main burner is turned "ON". Use a soapy water solur
