Newer refrigerators sound different from older refrigerators. Modem refrigerators ha ve
more features and use newer technology.
Do you hear what I hear? These sounds are normal
HUMMM...
--WHOOSH...
The new high efticiency comi)ressor may iun faster
and hmger than w)ur old refl'igerator and wm may
hear a high-i)itched hmn or pulsating sound while
it is operating.
Sometimes tile refl'igerator runs t0r an extended period,
especially when the cleon5 are opened ti'equentl}: This
means that tile Frost GuardT"teatm'e is working to
prevent Ii'eezer burn and improve t0od preservation.
54m may hear a whooshing so/md when the (loo_s close.
This is due to pressure equalizing within the reli_igerato_:
CLICKS, POPS,
CRACKS and CHIRPS
You may hear cracking or i)oi)ping so/mds when tile
refrigerator is first plugged in. This hal)pens as tile
reflJgerator cools to the correct teli/l)eYattu'e.
Electronic dampers click open and closed to provide
optimal cooling and energy savings.
The compressor may cause a clicking or chiq}ing
sotmd when attempting to restart (this could take
up to 5 minutes).
Tile electronic control board may cause a clicking
so/md when relays activate to cm{trol refrigerator
COlnl)oIleIltS.
Expansion and contraction of cooling coils dm'ing and
alier defl'ost can cause a cracking or i)oi)ping sound.
On models with an icemake_; after an icemaking
cycle, you may hear the ice cubes dropping into
the ice bucket.
WHIRl
You mav hear tile rims splinting at high speeds.
This hai_pens when the refrigerator is first i_lugged
in, when the doors are opened fl'equently or when
a large alllOtUlt of food is added to tile reli'igerator
or freezer compartments. Tile fans are helping to
maintain the correct temperatures.
If either door is open fi)r over 3 minutes, you may
hear tile rims come on in order to cool tile light bulbs.
Tile rims change speeds in order to provide optimal
cooling and energy savings,
WATERSOUNDS
6
Tile flow of refl'igerant through tile fl'eezer cooling
coils may make a gm'gling noise like boiling water.
Water dropping on tile deli'ost heater can cause a
sizzling, I)oI)ping or buzzing sotuld during tile
defrost cycle.
A water dripping noise may occm" dm'ing the defl'ost
cycle as ice melts fl'om the ewq)orator and flows into
tile drain pan.
Closing tile door may cause a gm'gling SOtlild due to
pressure equalization.
