wear safetyglasseswhileoperating
the mower,or while performing any
adjustmentsor repairson it.
Starting Engine
_l_llk, l= WARNING:Besureno one otherthan
the operatoris standingnearthe lawn
mowerwhilestartingengineor operat-
ingmower. Neverrun engine indoors
orin enclosed,poorly ventilatedareas.
Engine exhaustcontainscarbon monox-
ide,an odorlessand deadly gas. Keep
hands, feet, hair and looseclothing
awayfrom any moving partson engine
and lawnmower.
1. Pushprimer(if equipped)threetimes.Waitabout
two secondsbetweeneach push.SeeFigure4-2. In
temperaturearound550F or below,primefivetimes.
Donot primeto restarta warmengine.
2. Standingbehindthe mower,squeezethe bladecontrol
againstupperhandle.See Figure4-2.
3. Recoil Start: Grasprecoilstarterhandleandpull rope
out witha rapid,continuous,full armstroke.Keeping
a firmgripon the starterhandle,let the roperewind
slowly.Repeatuntilenginecranks.Letthe rope rewind
eachtime slowly.
Electric Start (If Equipped): Turnignitionkeyto the
rightto start theengine.Releasethe keyafter the
enginestarts.

_ ARNING:If youstrikeaforeign
object,stopthe engine.Remove
wire from the spark plug,thoroughly
inspectmowerfor any damage,and
repairdamage before restarting and
operating. Extensive vibration of
mower during operation is an indica-
tion of damage.The unit should be
promptlyinspectedand repaired.
1. Oncethe engineis running,squeezethedrive
controlagainstthe upperhandleto propelmower.
2. Forbest results,do notcut wet grass.
3. Fora healthierlawn,nevercut offmorethan one-
thirdof the totallengthof the grass.
Stopping Engine
1. Releasebladecontrolto stop theengineand blade.
2. Disconnectsparkplug wirefrom spark plug and
groundagainstthe engine.
_ ARNING:Waitfor the blade to stop
completelybefore doing any work
on the mower or to removethe grass
catcher.
UsingYour Lawn Mower
_ ARNING:Neveroperate your mower
without eitherthe rear door or the entire
grass catcher assembly firmly secured.
Besurelawnis clearof stones,sticks,wire,or other
objectswhichcoulddamagelawnmowerorengine.
Such objectscouldbe accidentlythrownby the mower
in anydirectionandcauseseriouspersonalinjuryto the
operatorandothers.
Using as Mulcher
Formulchinggrass,removethe grasscatcherfromthe
mower.Thereardischargedoorshouldbeclosed.
1. Foreffectivemulching,do notcut wetgrass.
2. Newor thick grassmayrequirea narrowercut.
Adjustgroundspeedaccordingto conditionof lawn.
3. if thegrasshas beenallowedto growin excessof
4 inches,mulchingis not recommended.Usethe
grasscatcherto bagclippingsinstead.
Using Grass Catcher
Youcan usethe grasscatcherto collectclippingswhile
youareoperatingthe mower.
1. AttachgrasscatcherfollowinginstructionsinSet Up.
Grassclippingswill automaticallycollect inbagas
you runmower.Operatemowertill grass bag isfull.
2. Stopenginecompletelyby releasingthe blade
controlhandle.Makesurethatthe unit hascometo
a completestop.
3. Liftdischargedoor and pull grassbag up and away
fromthe mowerto disposeof the grassclippings.
