Normal operatingsounds. GEAppliances.com
Newer refrigerators sound different from older refrigerators.
Modem refrigerators have more features and use newer
technology.
Do you hear what I hear? These sounds are normal.
HUMMM...
--WHOOSH...
The new high efticienc) colni)ressor nm) iun faster
and hmger than your old refl'igerator and wm may
hear a high-l)itched hmn or pulsating sound while
it is operating.
Sometimes the refl'igerator runs tot an extended period,
especially when the doois are opened fl'equentlv: This
means that the FrostGuarff"f'eattn'e is working to
prevent fl'eezer burn and improve t0od preservation.
Y)m may hear a whooshing sotmd when the dom_ close.
This is due to pressure equalizing within the reflJgeratoI;
CLICKS, POPS,
CRACKS and CHIRPS
You may hear cracking or i)oi_ping sotmds when the
refl'igerator is first plugged in. This hai_pens as the
refl'igerator cools to the correct temperatm'e.
Electronic dampers click open and closed to provide
optimal cooling and energy savings.
The compressor may cause a clicking or chirping
sound when attempting to restart (this could take
up to 5 minutes).
The electronic control board may cause a clicking
sound when relays activate to control refrigerator
COil/poileilts,
Expansion and contraction of cooling coils during
and afier defl'ost can cause a cracking or i)oi_ping
SOtlnd.
On models with an icemake_; aiier an icemaking
cycle, you mav hear the ice cubes dropping into
the ice bucket.
WHIR!
You may hear the rims spinning at high speeds.
This hal)pens when the refrigerator is first plugged
in, when the doors are opened frequently or when
a large amount of tood is added to the reti'igerator
or freezer compartments. The rims are helping to
maintain the correct temperatures.
If either door is open tot over 3 minutes, you may
hear the rims come on in order to cool the light
bulbs.
The rims change speeds in order to provide optimal
cooling and energy savings.
You may hear the rims itmning atter selecting one of
the C, MomCoo[%ettings.
WATERSOUNDS
6
The flow of refl'igerant through the fl'eezer cooling
coils may make a gm'gling noise like boiling water,
_'_ter dropping on the defrost heater can cause a
sizzling, I)oI)ping or buzzing sound dm'ing the
defrost cvcle.
A water dripping noise may occm" during the defrost
cycle as ice melts from the ewq)orator and flows into
the drain pan.
Closing the door may cause a gurgling sotmd due to
pressure equalization.
