WARNING:The operationof any lawn

damageyoureyesseverely.Always
wear safetyglasseswhileoperating
the mower,or while performing any
adjustmentsor repairson it.
Starting Engine
WARNING:Besureno one otherthan
the operatoris standingnear the lawn
mowerwhilestartingengine or operat-
ingmower. Neverrun engine indoors
or in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas.
Engine exhaust contains carbon monox-
ide,an odorless and deadly gas. Keep
hands,feet, hair and loose clothing
awayfrom any moving partson engine
and lawnmower.
1. Placethe fuel valveleverfoundon the left sideof the
engineintothe OPENposition.See Figure10inset.
2. Movethechokeleverall the way backwardinto the
chokeposition.Oncethe engineis warm,the leverwill
automaticallyrevertto the RUNposition.Referto the
enginemanualfor furtherdetails.
3. Standingbehindthe mower,squeezethe bladecontrol
againstupperhandle.See Figure10.
4. Holdingthesetwo handlestogetherfirmly,grasp recoil
starterhandleand pullropeout with a rapid,continu-
ous,full arm stroke.See Figure10.Keepingafirm
grip onthe starterhandle,let the rope rewindslowly.
Repeatuntil enginecranks.Letthe roperewindeach
timeslowly.
Stopping Engine
1. Releasebladecontrolto stop theengineand blade.
2. Disconnectsparkplugwirefromsparkplugand
groundagainstthe engine.
UsingYour Lawn Mower
_ WARNING:Donot operate mowerwith-
out mulching baffle, discharge chute or
grass catcher properlyinstalled.
Besurelawnis clearof stones,sticks,wire,or other
objectswhichcoulddamagelawnmowerorengine.
Such objectscouldbe accidentlythrownby the mower
in anydirectionandcauseseriouspersonalinjuryto the
operatorand others.
_ ARNING:if you strikea foreign object,
stop the engine. Removewire from the
spark plug,thoroughly inspectmower

for any damage,and repair damage before restart-
ingand operating. Extensive vibration of mower
during operation is an indicationof damage.The
unit should be promptlyinspectedand repaired.
1. Forbest results,do notcut wetgrass.
2. Fora healthierlawn, nevercut off morethan one-
thirdof the totallengthof the grass.
Using as Mulcher
Formulchinggrass,removethe grasscatcherand
adapterfrom the mower.Reattachmulchingbafflewith
the threewingnuts.
1. Foreffectivemulching,do notcut wetgrass.
2. Newor thick grassmay requirea narrowercut.
Adjustgroundspeedaccordingto conditionof lawn.
3. If thegrasshas beenallowedto growin excessof
4 inches,mulchingis not recommended.Usethe
grasscatcherto bagclippingsinstead.
Using Grass Catcher
Youcan usethe grass catcherto collectclippingswhile
youareoperatingthe mower.

6. Grassclippingswill automaticallycollectinthe
bagas you runthe mower.Operatethe mowertill the
grassbagis full.
2. Stopenginecompletelyby releasingthe blade
control.Makesurethatthe unithas cometo a
completestop.
3. Whileholdingthe grassbagby boththe rearhandle
andthe lowerhandle,lift thegrass bag straightup
offthe adapter.The chutedoor will movethe rope
outof thewayof the bag.
4. Continueto hold the lowerhandleand raisethe rear
of the grassbag up towardyour chest.The grass
bagwill openand the grass clippingswill disperse.
Whenreplacingthegrassbag,be surethe topof the
bagrestsonthe wire supportbetweenthe handles.
