removed. There are many
highly fl_mlmable items used
in homes such as acetone,
denatured alcohol, gasoline,
kerosene, t;ome household
cleaners, some spot removers,
turpentines, waxes, wax
removers and products
containing petroleum distillates.

up by clothing during subse-
quent dryer uses.
• The laundry process can
reduce the flame retardancy
of fabrics. To avoid such a
result, the garment manufacturer's
care instructions should be
followed very carefully.
• Close supervision is necessary
if this appliance is used by or
near children. Do not allow
children to play inside, on,

I_,oading
As general rule, if clothes are
sorted properly for the washer, they
are sorted properly for the dryer.
Sort by color
(Separate colorfast from
non-colorfast fabrics*)
• Whites
• Lights
• Darks
Separate by fabric type
• Cottons and linens
• Permanent press cottons
and blends
• Synthetic and poly knits
• Delicates
Separate lint producers from
lint collectors
• Lint producers: terry cloth and
chenille
• Lint collectors: velveteen and
corduroy
Sort by weight
• Heavy Items
• Light Items
* Non-colorfastfab_ics may bleed orfl_de. Sort by
individual col_o.
• Avoid drying very small loads.
• Sort clothes by weight so you
won't have to run an extra cycle
for one or two heavier, slower
drying items.
• Do not add fabric softener sheets
once the load has become warm.
This may cause fabric softener
stains.
Do not overload. This causes
inefficient operation and
unnecessary wrinkling. Clothes
need to tumble freely.
• Do not dry the following items:
• Fiberglass items
• Woolens
• Rubber coated items
• Plastics
• Items with plastic trina
• Foam-filled items
14

Care &
Cleaning
The drum is rust-resistant. However,
colored fabrics which lose color or
bleed in the washer may cause dis-
coloration of the dryer drum. We
recommend that the dryer drum
be cleaned with a cloth using a
detergent and water paste or a mild
abrasive, s'uch as Soft Scrub TM.
Rinse thoroughly. Then tumble-
dry several _et rags or old towels
for 20 to 30 minutes before using
the dryer normally.
Wipe off any spills or wash!ng
compounds. Wipe or dust with
a damp cloth. Try not to strike
the surface with sharp objects.
Dryer control panel and finishes
may be damaged by some laundry
pretreatment soil and stain remover
products if such products are
sprayed on or have direct contact
with the dryer.
Apply these pretreatment products
away from the dryer. The fabric
may then be washed and dried
normally. Damage to your dryer
caused by pretreatment products
is not covered by your warranty.
Before every dryer use, clean the
lint filter. It is easier to remove
the lint when your fingers are
moistened.
To keep your dryer operating at
peak performance, be sure to have
a technician vacuum the lint from
the machine every three years.
To store your dryer for a short
period of time, disconnect the
power supply and clean the lint
filter.
15

Care &
Cleaning
Inspect and clean the dryer
exhaust ducting at least once
a year to prevent clogging. A
partially clogged exhaust can
lengthen the drying time.
To clean the exhaust duct follow
these steps:
I Turn off electrical supply by
disconnecting the plug from
the wall socket.
2 Disconnect exhaust duO/from
the dryer.
3 Vacuum the exhaust ducT: with
the hose attachment or attach a
rag to a pole or drain cleaning
wire and clean duct.
• Make sure the inside flaps of the
exhaust hood move freely (you
may want to check with a mirror).
• Make sure inside flaps are fully
open when dryer is operating.
• Make sure there is not wild life
(birds, insects, etc.) nesting
inside the exhaust duct or hood.
16

Before you caUfor service
Problem
Possible Causes What to Do
Dryer is unplugged
Fuse is blown/circuit
breaker is tripped
• Make sure the dryer plug is pushed
completely into the outlet.
• Check the house fuse/circuit breaker
box and replace t_as,eor reset breaker.
NOTE:Most electric dryers use two breakers.
Fuse is blown/circuit breaker
is tripped, the dryer may
tumble but not heat
Gas service is off
• Check the house tu,,_-.e/circuit breaker box
and replace fuse or _mset breaker.
• Make sure gas shu t0ff at dryer and main
shutoff are fully open.
Some shaking/noise is normal.
Dryer may be sitting unevenly
• Move dryer to an even floorspace, or adjust
as necessary until even.
Improper use of fabric softener * Follow directions on fabric softener package.
Drying dirty items with • Use your dlyer to dU only clean items. Dirty
clean ones items can stain clean items and the dryer.
Clothes were not completely • Sometimes stains which cannot be seen when
clean the clothes are wet "appear" after ch-ying. Use
proper washing procedures before d_ring.
Lint filter is full • Clean lint screen be:Yore each load.
Improper sorting • Sort lint producers (like chenille) from
lint collectors (like ¢:orduroy).
Smile electricity can attract lint • See suggestions in _xhis section under STATIC.
Overloading • Separate large loads into smaller ones.
Paper, tissue, etc. left in pockets s Empty' all pockets before laundering clothes.
17

Problem Possible Causes What to Do
Overlying
No fabric softener was used
Synthetics, permanent press
and blends can cause static
', Try a fiabric softener.
• Adjust controls for less drying.
• Try a fabric softener,
• Try a fabric softener
Improper sorting Separate heavy items from light weight items
(generally, a well-so_:ted washer load is a
well-sorted dryer lo:td).
Large loads of heavy items • Large, heavy loads contain more moisture
(like beach towels) and take longer to dry. Separate large, heavy
items into smaller loads to speed drying time.
Controls improperly set • Match control settings to the load you
are drying.
Lint filter is full • Clean lint filter before every load.
Improper or obstructed • Check installation instructions fi)r proper
ducting ducting/venting.
Blown fuses or tripped
circuit breakers
Overloading/
combining loads
Underloading
Make sure ducting is clean, free of kinks
and unobstructed.
Check to see if outside wall damper
operates easily.
See the Venting the Drying section.
Replace fuses or reset circuit breakers. Since
most dryers use 2 fuses/breakers, make sure
both are operating.
Do not put more than one washer load in
the dryer at a time.
If you are drying only one or two items,
add a few items to ensure proper tumbling.
1'8

Problem Possible Causes What to Do
Overclrying
Letting items sit in dryer
after cycle ends
• Select a shorter dryi:ag time.
• Remove items while they still hold a slight
amount of moisture.
• Remove items when cycle ends and fold or
hang immediately.
Some fabrics will naturally
shrink when washed. Others
can be safely washed, but will.
shrink in the dryer.
To avoid shrinkage, follow garment care
labels exactly.
Some items may be pressed back into shape
after drying.
If you are concerned about shrinkage in
a particular item, do not machine wash or
tumble dry it.
19

For the best drying performance
the dryer needs to be properly
vented. Carefully follow the details
onExhausting in the Installation
Instructions.
• Use only rigid metal or flexible
metal 4" diameter ductwork
inside the dryer cabinet or for
exhausting to the outside.
* Do not use plastic or other com-
bustible ductwork.
• Use the shc, rtest length possible.
• Do not crush or collapse. _
• Avoid resting the duct on sharp
objects.
• Venting must conform to local
building codes.
