Thebarandchainrequirelubrication.
Thechainoilerprovidescontinuous
lubricationtothechainandguidebar.
Besuretofillthebaroiltankwhenyou
fillthefueltank(Capacity=6.8fl.oz.).
Lackofoilwillquicklyruinthebarand
chain.Toolittleoilwillcauseoverheat-
ingshownbysmokecomingfromthe
chainand/ordiscolorationofthebar.
Formaximumguidebarandchainlife,
werecommendyouuseCraftsman
chainsawbaroil.IfCraftsmanbaroil
isnotavailable,youmayuseagood
gradeSAE30oiluntilyouareableto
obtainCraftsmanbrand.Theoiloutput
isautomaticallymeteredduringopera-
tion.Yoursawwilluseapproximately
onetankofbaroilforeverytankoffuel
mix.Alwaysfillthebaroiltankwhen
youfillthefueltank.
FUELINGENGINE

slowlywhenrefueling.
Thisengineiscertifiedtooperateonun-
leadedgasoline.Beforeoperation,gaso-
linemustbemixedwithagoodquality
synthetic2-cycleair-cooledengineoil.
WerecommendCraftsmanbrandsyn-
theticoil.Mixgasolineandoilataratio
of40:1.A40:1ratioisobtainedbymix-
ing3.2ouncesofoilwith1gallonof
unleadedgasoline.Includedwiththis
sawisa3.2ouncecontainerofoil.
Pourtheentirecontentsofthiscon-
tainerinto1gallonofgasolineto
achievetheproperfuelmixture.
DONOTUSEautomotiveoilorboatoil.
Theseoilswillcauseenginedamage.
Whenmixingfuelfollowtheinstruc-
tionsprintedontheoilcontainer.
Onceoilisaddedtothegasoline,
shakecontainermomentarilytoassure
thatthefuelisthoroughlymixed.Al-
waysreadandfollowthesafetyrules
relatingtofuelbeforefuelingyourunit.
IMPORTANT
Experienceindicatesthatalcohol
blendedfuels(calledgasoholorusing
ethanolormethanol)canattractmois-
turewhichleadstoseparationand
formationofacidsduringstorage.Acidic
gascandamagethefuelsystemofan
enginewhileinstorage.Toavoidengine
problems,thefuelsystemshouldbe
emptiedbeforestoragefor30daysor
longer.Drainthegastank,starttheen-
gineandletitrununtilthefuellinesand
carburetorareempty.Usefreshfuel
nextseason.SeeSTORAGEinstructions
foradditionalinformation.
Neveruseengineorcarburetorcleaner
productsinthefueltankorpermanent
damagemayoccur.

CHAINBRAKE
Ensurechainbrakeisdisengagedby
pullingthefronthandguardbackto-
wardthefronthandleasfaraspos-
sible.Thechainbrakemustbedisen-
gagedbeforecuttingwiththesaw.

move when the engine runs at idle
speed. If the chain moves at idle
speed, refer to CARBURETOR ADJUST-
MENT within this manual. Avoid con-
tact with the muffler. A hot muffler can
cause serious burns.
STOPPING YOUR ENGINE
Move ON/STOP switch to the STOP
position.
STARTING POSITION
To start the engine, hold the saw
firmly on the ground as illustrated.
Make sure the chain is free to turn
without contacting any object.
