andwhile performingan adjustmentor repairto protectyoureyes.
Thrownobjectswhichricochetcancause seriousinjuryto the
eyes.
Wearsturdy,rough-soledwork shoesand close-fittingslacks
and shirts.Shirtsand pantsthatcoverthe arms and legsand
steel-toedshoesare recommended.Neveroperatethis machine
inbarefeet,sandals,slipperyor light-weight(e.g.canvas)shoes.
Donot put handsor feet near rotatingpartsor underthe cutting
deck. Contactwith bladecan amputatefingers,hands,toesand
feet.
A missingor damageddischargecovercan causebladecontact
or thrownobjectinjuries.
Manyinjuriesoccur as a resultof the mowerbeingpulledoverthe
footduringafall causedby slippingor tripping.Do not holdon to
the mowerif you are falling: releasethe handleimmediately.
Neverpullthe mowerback towardyouwhileyou arewalking.If
you mustback the mowerawayfroma wallor obstructionfirst
lookdownandbehindto avoidtrippingandthen followthese
steps:
1. Stepbackfrommowerto fully extendyourarmsforward.
2. Be sureyouare wellbalancedwithsurefooting.
3. Pullthe mowerbackslowly,no morethan half waytoward
you.
4. Repeatthese stepsas needed.
Donot operatethe mowerwhileunderthe influenceof alcoholor
drugs.
Donot engagethe self-propelledmechanismon machinesso
equippedwhilestartingengine.

• The bladecontrolhandleis a safetydevice.Neverattemptto
bypassits operation.Doingso makesthe safetydeviceinopera-
tiveandmayresultin personalinjurythroughcontactwiththe
rotatingblade.The bladecontrolhandlemustoperateeasily
in bothdirectionsand automaticallyreturnto the disengaged
positionwhenreleased.
• Neveroperatethe mowerinwetgrass.Alwaysbe sureof your
footing. A slip andfall cancause seriouspersonalinjury.Ifyou
feelyou are losingyourfooting,releasethe bladecontrolhandle
immediatelyandthe bladewill stop rotatingwithinthreeseconds.
• Mowonly in daylightor goodartificiallight.Walk,neverrun.
• Stopthe bladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.
• Ifthe equipmentshouldstart to vibrateabnormally,stop the
engineandcheckimmediatelyfor the cause.Vibrationis gener-
allya warningof trouble.
• Shutthe engineoff andwaituntilthe bladecomesto a complete
stopbeforeremovingthe grass catcheror uncloggingthe chute.
Thecuttingbladecontinuesto rotatefor afewsecondsafterthe
bladecontrolis released.Neverplaceany partof the body inthe
bladeareauntilyou are surethe bladehasstoppedrotating.
• Neveroperatemowerwithoutpropertrail shield,dischargecover,
grasscatcher,bladecontrolhandleor othersafetyprotectivede-
vicesin placeandworking.Neveroperatemowerwithdamaged
safetydevices.Failureto do socan resultinpersonalinjury.
Mufflerand engine becomehotand can causea burn.Do not
touch.
• Neverattemptto makea wheelor cuttingheightadjustmentwhile
theengineis running.
• Onlyuse partsand accessoriesmadeforthis machineby the
manufactureras listedin the Partspagesof this Operator's
Manual.Failureto doso can resultin personalinjury.
• Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntil resistanceis felt,then
pullrapidly.Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)willpull
handandarm towardenginefasterthanyoucan let go. Broken
bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscould result.
• If situationsoccurwhicharenot coveredinthismanual,usecare

SLOPE OPERATION
Slopesare a majorfactor relatedto slipand fall accidents,whichcan
resultinsevereinjury.Operationon slopes requiresextracaution.If
youfeel uneasyon a slope,do not mowit. Foryour safety,usethe
SlopeGuideincludedas partof thismanualto measureslopesbefore
operatingthis machineon a slopedor hillyarea. If the slopeis greater
than 15degrees,do not mowit.
Do:
o
Mowacrossthefaced slopes;neverupanddown.Exercise
extremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.
• Watchfor holes,ruts, rocks,hiddenobjects,or bumpswhich can
causeyou to slip or trip. Tallgrass can hideobstacles.
• Alwaysbesureof yourfooting.A slipand fall can causeserious
personalinjury.If you feelyou are losingyourbalance,release
the blade controlhandleimmediatelyand the bladewillstop
rotatingwithinthree (3) seconds.
DoNot:
• Donot mowneardrop-offs,ditchesor embankments,because
you couldloseyourfootingor balance.
• Donot mowslopesgreaterthan 15degreesas shownon the
slopeguide.
• Donot mowon wetgrass.Unstablefootingcouldcauseslipping.
CHILDREN
Tragicaccidentscan occur if the operatoris not alertto the presence
of children.Childrenareoftenattractedto themowerand the mowing
activity.Theydonot understandthe dangers.Neverassumethat
childrenwill remainwhereyou last saw them.
Keepchildrenout of the mowingareaandunderwatchfulcareof
a responsibleadultotherthan theoperator.
• Be alertand turn moweroffif achild entersthe area.
• Beforeandwhilemovingbackwards,look behindand down for
smallchildren.
• Useextremecare whenapproachingblindcorners,doorways,
shrubs,trees,or otherobjectsthat mayobscureyourvision of a
child whomay run intothe mower.
• Keepchildrenawayfromhot or runningengines.They can suffer
burnsfrom a hot muffler.
• Neverallowchildrenunder 14yearsof ageto operatethis
machine.Children14and overshouldreadand understandthe
instructionsand safeoperationpracticesinthis manualandon
the machineand be trainedand supervisedby an adult.
SERVICE
Safe HandlingOf Gasoline:
• Toavoid personalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecare
in handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableand the
vaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhen
gasolineis spilledon yourselfor yourclothes,whichcan ignite.
Washyour skin and changeclothesimmediately.
• Useonly anapprovedgasolinecontainer.
• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicleor on a truck ortrailer bed
witha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainerson theground away
fromyourvehiclebeforefilling.
• Removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruck or trailerand
refuelit on the ground.If this is notpossible,then refuelsuch
equipmenton atrailer witha portablecontainer,ratherthanfrom
a gasolinedispensernozzle.
• Keepthe nozzleincontactwiththe rimof the fueltank or
containeropeningat all timesuntilfuelingis complete.Donot use
a nozzlelock-opendevice.

• Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersources
of ignition.
• Neverfuelmachineindoorsbecauseflammablevaporswill
accumulateinthe area.
• Neverremovegas cap oraddfuel whileengineis hotor running.
Allowengineto coolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.
• Neverover-fillfuel tank.Toallowfor expansionof the fuel,donot
fill abovethe bottomof the fueltankneck.
• Replacegasolinecapand tighten securely.
• If gasolineis spilled,wipe it offthe engineandequipment.Move
machineto anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingengine.
• Neverstorethe machineor fuel containernearanopenflame,
sparkor pilot lightas ona waterheater,spaceheater,furnace,
clothesdryer orothergas appliances.
• Toreducefirehazard,keepmachinefreeof grass,leaves,or
otherdebrisbuild-up.Cleanup oil orfuel spillageand removeany
fuel-soakeddebris.
Allowmachineto cool at least5 minutesbeforestoring.
GeneralService:
• Neverrunan engine indoorsor ina poorlyventilatedarea.Engine
exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,anodorlessanddeadlygas.
• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertain the
bladeandall movingpartshavestopped.Disconnectthe spark
plugwireandgroundagainstthe engineto preventunintended
starting.
Checktheblade and enginemountingbolts at frequentintervals
for propertightness.Also,visuallyinspectbladefordamage(e.g.,
bent,cracked,worn).Replacebladewiththeoriginalequipment
manufacture's(O.E.M.)bladeonly, listedin the Partspagesof this
manual.Useof parts whichdonot meetthe originalequipment
specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand compro-
misesafety!
• Mowerbladesare sharpand can cut. Wrapthe bladeor wear
gloves,and use extracautionwhen servicingthem.
Keepall nuts,bolts,and screwstight to be suretheequipmentis
insafeworkingcondition.
Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation
regularly.
Afterstrikinga foreignobject, stopthe engine,disconnectthe
sparkplugwireand groundagainstthe engine.Thoroughly
inspectthe mowerfor anydamage.Repairthe damagebefore
startingand operatingthe mower.
Neverattemptto makea wheelor cuttingheightadjustmentwhile
the engineisrunning.
• Grasscatchercomponents,dischargecover,and trailshieldare
subjectto wearand damagewhichcouldexposemovingpartsor
allowobjectsto bethrown.Forsafetyprotection,frequentlycheck
componentsand replaceimmediatelywith originalequipment
manufacturer's(O.E.M.)parts only,listed inthe Partspages
of this manual.Useof partswhich do notmeet the original
equipmentspecificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand
compromisesafety!
Donot changethe engine'sgovernorsettingor over-speedthe
engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed
of the engine.
Checkfuel line,tank,cap, and fittings frequentlyfor cracksor
leaks.Replaceifnecessary.
Donot crankenginewith sparkplugremoved.
• Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,as necessary.
• Observeproperdisposallawsand regulations.Improperdisposal
of fluids and materialscan harmthe environment.
Accordingto theConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)
andthe U.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),this product
hasan AverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 140hoursof
operation.At the endof theAverageUsefulLifehavethe machine
inspectedannuallyby a Searsor otherqualifiedservicedealer
to ensurethat all mechanicalandsafetysystemsareworking
properlyand notwornexcessively.Failureto doso can resultin
accidents,injuriesor death.
DO NOT MODIFY ENGINE
Toavoidseriousinjuryor death,do not modifyengineinany way.
Tamperingwiththe governorsettingcanlead to a runawayengineand
causeitto operateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactory setting
of engine governor.Doingso will voidthe productwarranty.
NOTICE REGARDING EMISSIONS
Engineswhich are certifiedtocomplywith Californiaand federal
EPAemissionregulationsfor SORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)are
certifiedto operateon regularunleadedgasoline,and mayinclude
the followingemissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification(EM) and
ThreeWay Catalyst(TWC)ifso equipped.
SPARK ARRESTOR
Thismachineisequippedwithaninternalcombustionengineand
shouldnotbe usedon or nearany unimprovedforest-covered,
brush-coveredor grass-coveredland unlessthe engine'sexhaust
systemisequippedwith a sparkarrestormeetingapplicablelocalor
statelaws (if any).
Ifa sparkarrestorisused,itshouldbe maintainedin effectiveworking
orderby theoperator.Inthe Stateof Californiathe aboveis required
bylaw(Section4442 of the CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode). Other
statesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyon federallands.

READ THE OPERATOR'S MANUAL(S)
Read, understand, and follow all instructions in the manual(s) before attempting to assemble and
operate
DANGER -- ROTATING BLADES
To reduce the risk of injury, keep hands and feet away. Do not operate unless discharge cover or grass
catcher is in its proper place. If damaged, replace immediately.
DANGER -- BYSTANDERS
Do not mow when children or others are around.
DANGER-- HAND/FOOT CUT
Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts.
DANGER -- THROWN DEBRIS
Remove objects that can be thrown by the blade in any direction. Wear safety glasses.
DANGER -- SLOPES
Use extra caution on slopes. Do not mow slopes greater than 150.
WARNING--GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE
Allow the engine to cool at least two minutes before refueling.
WARNING-- CARBON MONOXIDE
Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon
monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas.
WARNING-- HOT SURFACE
Engine parts, especially the muffler, become extremely hot during operation. Allow engine and
muffler to cool before touching.

ADJUSTMENTS
Cutting Height
Thereisa cuttingheightadjustmentleverlocatedabovethe front and
rearrightwheel.
1. Pullthe heightadjustmentleveroutwardtowardswheel(unitwill
tendto fall whenleveris movedoutward).See Figure10.
2. Moveleverto desiredpositionfor a changein cuttingheight.See
Figure10.
3. Releaselevertowardsdeck.
IMPORTANT:All wheels mustbe placedin the sameposition.For
roughor unevenlawns,moveeachheightadjustmentleverto a higher
position.This will preventyoufrom cuttingthe grasstooclose to the
ground.
Handle Pitch
Forconvenienceof operation,you mayadjustthe pitch of the handle
as follows:
1. Removewing nutsandcarriagebolts from handle.SeeFigure11.
2. Positionthe handlein oneof the threepositionsthat is most
comfortable.See Figure11inset.
3. Secureintopositionwith wingnuts and carriageboltsremoved
earlier.

Yourmoweris shippedas a mulcher.Todischargethegrass clippings

CUTTING HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT LEVER
Oneadjustmentleveris locatedon the right rearwheelandoneis
locatedonthe rightfront wheel. Bothlevershaveto beat the same
positionto ensurea uniformcut.To adjustthe cuttingheight,referto
the AssemblySection.
GRASS CATCHER
Thegrass catcher,locatedat the rear of the mower,is usedto bag
the grassclippingsfordisposalat anothersite.Oncethe bagis full,
removeit up throughthe handlesusingthe strapprovidedandemptyit

indoorsor in enclosed,poorlyventilatedareas. Engineexhaust

TO START ENGINE
1. Standingbehindthe mower,squeezethe bladecontrolhandle
againstupperhandle.See Figure14.
2. Holdingthesetwo handlestogetherfirmly,grasprecoilstarter
handleandpull ropeslowlyuntil resistanceis felt, then pull witha
rapid,continuous,full arm stroke.See Figure14.Keepinga firm
griponthe startercord handle,let the rope rewindslowly.Repeat
untilenginecranks. Letthe roperewindeachtime slowly.
Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)will pullhandandarm
towardenginefasterthan youcan let go. Brokenbones,fractures,
bruisesorsprainscould result.
NOTE:If enginefloods,waita fewminutesto restart.
TO STOP ENGINE
1. Releasebladecontrolto stop the engineandblade.
Waitfor the bladeto stopcompletelybeforeperforminganywork on
the moweror to removethe grass catcher.

USING YOUR LAWN MOWER
Besure lawnis clearof stones,sticks,wire, or otherobjectswhich
coulddamagelawnmoweror engine.Suchobjectscouldbe accidently
thrownby themowerin anydirectionand cause seriouspersonalinjury
to the operatorand others.
Theoperationof any lawnmowercan result in foreignobjectsbeing
thrownintothe eyes,whichcan damageyoureyes severely.Always
wearsafetyglasseswhileoperatingthe mower,or whileperforming
anyadjustmentsor repairson it.
USING AS MULCHER
For mulchinggrass,removethe grasscatcherand sidedischarge
chutefromthe mower.Foreffectivemulching,do not cutwetgrass. If
the grasshas beenallowedto grow in excessof four inches,mulching
is not recommended.Usethe grass catcherto bagclippingsinstead.
USING GRASS CATCHER
Youcanuse the grasscatcherto collectclippingswhileyou are
operatingthe mower.
1. Attachgrass catcherfollowinginstructionsin the "Assembly"
section.Grassclippingswill automaticallycollect in bag as you
runmower.Operatemoweruntil grassbag is full.
2. Stopenginecompletelyby releasingthe bladecontrol.Makesure
thatthe unit hascome to a completestop.
3. Lift dischargedoor and pull grass bag up and awayfrom the
mowerto removethe bag.Disposeof the grass clippingsand
reinstallthe bag whencomplete.
Ifyou strikea foreignobject,stop theengine.Disconnectthe spark
plugwire,thoroughlyinspectmowerfor anydamage,and repair
damagebeforerestartingandoperating.Extensivevibrationof mower
duringoperationis an indicationof damage.Theunit shouldbe
promptlyinspectedandrepaired.

the sparkplug area.
2. Usethe propersize sparkplug wrenchto removethe spark plug.
NOTE: Replacewith a Champion®RC12YCsparkplug.
3. Checkthegap with a wire gauge.See Figure15.Sparkplug gap
shouldbe 0.030in (0.76ram).If necessary,resetthe gap.
4. installandtightenthe sparkplugto the recommendedtorque(180
Ib-in[20 Nm]).
5. Attachthe sparkplugcapto thesparkplug.
Air Cleaner
A dirtyaircleanerwill restrictair flow to the carburetorand causepoor
engineperformance,inspectthe filtereachtimetheengineis oper-
ated.Youwill needto cleanthe filtermorefrequentlyif youoperatethe
enginein verydusty areas.

When removingthe cuttingblade for sharpeningor replacement,
protectyourhandswith a pair of heavyglovesor usea heavyragto
holdthe blade.
Periodicallyinspectthe bladeadapterfor cracks,especiallyif you
strikea foreignobject. Replacewhennecessary.Followthe steps
belowfor bladeservice.
1. Disconnectsparkplug bootfromsparkplug.Turnmoweronitsside
makingsurethat the airfilterandthe carburetorarefacingup.
2. Removetheboltandthebladebellsupportwhichholdthebladeand
the bladeadaptertothe enginecrankshaft.SeeFigure19.
3. Removebladeandadapterfrom the crankshaft.
4. Removebladefromtheadapterfortestingbalance.Balancetheblade
ona roundshaftscrewdriverto check.Removemetalfrom the
heavysideuntil it balancesevenly.Whensharpeningthe blade,
followthe originalangle of grind.Grindeachcuttingedge equally
to keepthe bladebalanced.
Anunbalancedbladewill causeexcessivevibrationwhenrotatingat
highspeeds.It may causedamageto mowerand couldbreakcausin(
personalinjury.
5. Lubricatetheenginecrankshaftandthe innersurfaceof the blade
adapterwith lightoil. Slidethe blade adapterontothe engine
crankshaft.Placethe bladeon the adaptersuchthatthe sideof
the blade marked"Bottom"(orwithpart number)facestheground
whenthe moweris in the operatingposition.Makesurethatthe
bladeis alignedand seatedon thebladeadapterflanges.See
Figure19inset.
6. Placebladebellsupportontheblade.Alignnotchesonthe bladebell
supportwithsmallholesin blade.
7. Replacehex boltandtightenhex boltto torque:450in. Ibs.rain.,
600 in. Ibs.max.
Toensuresafe operationof yourmower,periodicallycheckthe blade
boltfor correcttorque.

awarethat Searsmaydenyyou warrantycoverageif your smalloff-roadengine
ora part hasfailed dueto abuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceor unap-

Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPartwill be performedat no
chargeto the owner,includingdiagnosticlabor whichleadsto the
determinationthata WarrantedPartis defective,if the diagnosticworkis
performedat an AuthorizedSears ServiceDealer.For emissionswarranty
servicecontact yournearestAuthorizedSearsServiceDealeras listed in
the "YellowPages"under"Engines,Gasoline,""GasolineEngines,""Lawn
Mowers,"orsimilarcategory.
4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions
Warrantyclaimsshall be filed in accordancewith the provisionsof the
Sears EngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall be excludedfor
failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare not original Sears partsor because
of abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears
EngineWarrantyPolicy.Sears is not liableto coverfailuresof Warranted
Partscausedby theuseof add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.
5. Maintenance
Any WarrantedPart whichis notscheduledfor replacementas required
maintenanceor whichis scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effect
of "repairor replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedasto defectsfor the
warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich is scheduledfor replacement
as requiredmaintenanceshallbe warrantedasto defectsonly forthe
periodof time upto the first scheduledreplacementfor that part. Any
replacementpart that is equivalentin performanceand durabilitymay
be usedin the performanceof any maintenanceor repairs.The owneris
responsibleforthe performanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedin
the SearsOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.
6. ConsequentialCoverage
Coveragehereundershallextend to the failure of any engine components
caused bythe failureof any WarrantedPartstill underwarranty.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and
Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label
Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must
display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears Brands Management
Corporation makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.
The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is
certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte-
nance Instructions. The following categories are used:
Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time.
Intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.
Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time.
For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions
Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.
The Air index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. The
lower the Air Index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.
After July 1,2000, Look For Emissions Compliance Period
On Engine Emissions Compliance Label
After July 1, 2000 certain Sears Brands Management Corporation engines will be certified to meet the United
States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the
Emissions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating
hours for which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.
For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours.
For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.
This is a generic representation of the emission label typically found on a certified engine.

Siga los siguientes pasos para completar conjuntodel mango:
A. Tire haciaarriba en el asa hasta agujeros en la manija (que se
muestra en la figura 3 corte de la cubierta) se alinean con los
agujeros en el mango soporte. Vea la figura 4.
NOTA: AI tirar hacia arriba la palanca, aseg@ese de que no tire de
manejar todo el camino.
B. Inserte ei T-pernos quit6 anteriormente a traves dei mango
corchetes y asa inferior y apriete bien paraasegurar el mango

C. Vuelva a colocar tuercas y pernos de transporte retirarse antes
en una reducci6n de los agujeros de la manija como se muestra

A. Sostenga la manija de control de la cuchilla contra la manija

Para quitar al receptor de hierba, levante ia puerta de descarga trasera
en el cortacesped. Ascensor cesped y fuera de ias ranuras en el mango
entre parentesis. El reverse de liberaciHndescarga ia puerta para permitir
que ello cerrara la apertura traseradel cortacesped.
Conexi6n de Canal de Descarga Lateral
Su podadora ha side enviada como abonadora. Si hace la conversiHna
descarga lateral,asegurese de que el colector de cesped este fuera de la
unidad y que ia puerta de descarga trasera este cerrada.
1. En el costado de la podadora, levante el adaptador para abono. Vea
figura 9.
2. Deslice los dos ganchos del canal de descarga lateral debajo del
pasador de bisagrasobre el montaje del adaptador para abono. Baje
el adaptador para abono. No extraiga la clavija paraabono lateral en
cuaiquier momento, aOncuando no este abonando.
AJUSTES
Altura de torte
Hay una palanca de ajuste de aitura de corte, situado encima de la rueda
delantera derecha y trasera.
1. Presione la palanca hacia la rueda (unidad tendera,a caer cuando se
suelta la palanca). Vea la figura 10.
2. Muevalaa cuaiquier de las posiciones para la aitura de corte
deseado. Vea la figura 10.
3. Libere la palanca hacia la cubierta de la podadora.
IMPORTANTE: Tanto las ruedas delanteras y traseras deben
colocarse en la rnisrna posiciHn relativa. Cuando el terreno es agreste
o irregular carnbie la palanca de ajuste de la altura a una posiciHn rn_.s
alta. De esta rnanera se cuida rn_.sel cesped.
Inclinaci6n de la manija

Primer uso
1. Saque la varilla del nivel de aceite (G).
2. Con la cortadora de cesped ubicada en suelo nivelado, vierta el
aceite bntamente pot dentro del tubo de Ilenadode aceite del motor
(H) hasta la marca de limite alto en la varilla medidora del nivel de
aceite (J). Vea la Figura 13.
3. Vuelva a colocar la varilla de Ilenadode aceite y ajQstela.
Usos posteriores
Use aceite para motor de 4 tiempos que cumpla o sobrepase los
requisitos para la clasificaci6n de servicio APi SK SG, SH, SJ o
equivalente.
Compruebe siempre ia etiqueta de servicio API en el recipiente dei aceite
para asegurarseque incluye las letras SK SG, SH, SJ o equivalente.

Gasolina
No utilice gasolinas no aprobados, tales como E85. No mezcle el aceite
en ia gasolina o modificar el motor para funcionar con combustibles
aiternativos. Esto dafiara,los componentes del motor y anular la
garantia del motor.
De combustible debe cumplir estos requisitos:

ventilaci6n. El escape del motor contiene mon6xido de carbono, un gas
inodoro y ietai. Mantenga ias manos, los pies, el cabello y la ropa suelta
alejados de las partes m6viles del motor y de la cortadora.

PARA ENCENDER EL MOTOR
1. Coi6quese detra.sde la podadora, apriete ia manija de control de la
cuchilla y sostengala contra la manija superior.Vea la Figura 14.
2. Sostenga firmemente las dos manijas juntas, tome la manija del
arrancador de retroceso y tire de ia cuerda para sacarla con un
movimiento ra.pidoy continuo. Vea la Figura 14. Mantenga firme la
manija del arrancador, deje que la cuerda regrese lentamente al
arrancador.Repitahasta que el motor este en marcha. Deje que la
cuerda se enrosque lentamente de regreso.
De retracci6n ra.pidadel cord6n de arranque (soborno) tirara,de mano y
el brazo hacia el motor ma.sra.pidode Io que puede dejar ir. Las fracturas
de huesos,fracturas, contusiones o esguinces podria resultar.
PARA DETENER EL MOTOR
1. Suelte la manija de control de la cuchilla paradetener el motor y la
cuchilla.
Espere a que ia cuchilla se haya detenido pot completo antes de hacer
cualquier trabajo en la cortadora o de retirarel colector de cesped.

USO DE LA CORTADORA DE CESPED
Aseg_resedeque el cespedest&librede piedras,palos, cablesu otros
objetos que pudiesendafiar la cortadorao el motor.Dichos objetos pueden
set arrojadosaccidentalmentepot la cortadora en cualquier direcci6ny
provocarlesionespersonalesgravesai operadory a otras personas.
AI operar una cortadora de cesped es posible que objetos extrafios sean
arrojados a los ojos, Io cual puede dafiarlos gravemente. Utilice siempre
galas de seguridad durante la operaci6n de la cortadora de cesped o
mientras la ajusta o repara.
USO COMO ABONADORA
Para abonar el cesped, quite el colector de cesped de la ma.quina.La
puerta de descarga posterior debera estar cerrada. Para un abono
eficiente, nocorte cesped hQmedo.Si el cesped ha crecido ma.sde 10,2
cm. (4 pulg.) no se recomienda el uso de la podadora como abonadora.
En ese caso, use el colector de cesped para embolsar los recortes.
USO DEL COLECTOR DE ClaSPED
Puedeutilizar el colector de cesped para recoger dichos recortes mientras
opera la podadora.
1. Acople el colector de cesped siguiendo ias instrucciones en ia
secci6n de Montaje. Los recortes de cesped se recolectara.n
automa.ticamenteen la bolsa a medida que pase ia podadora. Opere
la podadora hasta que ia bolsa de recolecci6n este Ilena.
2. Detengaei motor pot completo soltando la manija de control de la
cuchilla. Compruebe que la unidad se hayadetenido pot completo.
3. Para deshacerse de los recortes de cesped ievante ia puerta de
descarga y tire de la bolsade recolecci6n hacia arriba, aparta.ndola
de la podadora.
Si golpea un objeto extrafio, detenga ei motor. Retire el cable de ia
bujia, inspeccione detenidamentela cortadora para vet que no tenga
dafios, y repare el dafio antes de volver a encender y operar. El exceso
de vibraci6n de la cortadora durante la operaci6n es una indicaci6n de
dafio. Se debe inspeccionar y reparar la unidad Io antes posible.

5. Vuelva a instaiar bien la tapa/varilla medidora del nivel de aceite.

Limpie el motor
Diariamenteo antes de cada use, limpie el cesped, la grasa o los
residues acumulados del motor. Mantenga limpios el varillaje, los
resortes y los controles. Mantenga ei a.reaque rodea al silenciador y
detra.sdei mismo iibre de cualquier residue combustible.
El mantenimientodel motor en condiciones limpias permite el
movimiento de aire airededor del mismo.
Las partes dei motor se @ben mantener limpias para reducir
el riesgo de sobrecalentamiento y combusti6n de los residues
acumulados.
No use agua para limpiar ias piezas dei motor. Elagua puede contaminar
el sistema de combustible. Use un cepillo o un trapo seco.

LUBRICACION
Control de la cuchilla
Lubriquecon aceite ligero los puntosde pivote del control de la cuchilla al
menos una vez cada estaci6n. Estecontrole debe funcionar libremente en
ambas direcciones. Vea la Figura 18.
LIMPIEZA DE LA PLATAFORIVIA
Debelimpiar la parte inferior de la plataforma de la cortadora de cesped
una vez una temporada para prevenir la acumulaci6n de recortes de
cesped u otros desechos. Siga los pasosque aparecen debajo para
realizar esta tarea.
1. Opere el motor hasta que se detenga por la falta de combustible.
Desconecteel cable de la bujia.
2. incline la cortadora de cesped de modo que quede apoyada sobre
al alojamiento, mantenga el silenciador de costado hacia abajo.
Refierasea la figura 17.Sostenga firmementela cortadora.
Nunca incline ia cortadora de cesped ma.sde 900en ninguna direcci6n
y no deje la unidad inclinada. Se puede filtrar aceite dentro de la parte
superior del motor y causar problemas de arranque.
3. Raspey limpie la parte inferiorde iaplataforma mediante el uso de una
herramienta adecuada. No la rode con agua.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA "f _"
Cuandosaque la cuchilla de corte para afilarla o reemplazarla, protejase
las manos usando un par de guantes para trabajo rudo o un trapo gruesc
para sostener la cuchilla.
Inspeccione peri6dicamente el adaptador de la cuchiiia en busca de
rajaduras, especialmente cuando golpee un objeto extra_o. Realice los
reemplazos que resulten necesarios. Siga los pasos que aparecen debajo
para realizar el mantenimiento de la cuchilla.
1. Desconecte el capuch6n del cable de la bujia. Gire la cortadora
de cesped sobre ei costado y compruebe que el filtro de aire y el
carburador queden mirando haciaarriba.
2. Saque el perno y el soporte de campana de ia cuchiiia que sostienen
la cuchilla y el adaptador de la misma al cigQe_aidel motor. Vea la
Figura 19.
3. Saque la cuchilla y el adaptador del cigQe_ai.
NOTA: Quitando estos articulos, la arandela tambien pueden iiberarse
de el cigQe_al.Este seguro para hacer la nota de la orientaci6n de este
arficulo para nuevasesi6n.
4. Saquelacuchilladeladaptador paracomprobarelequilibrio. Balanceela
cuchilla sobre un destomillador de eje redondo para inspeccionarla.
Saque metal del iado pesado hasta que quede bien equiiibrada.
Cuando afile la cuchilla, siga el a.ngulooriginal de la muela como
guia. Afiie cada horde de corte por iguai para mantener el balance
de la cuchilla.
Si ia cuchiiia esta.desequiiibrada generara,vibraciones excesivas cuandoI
rote a aitas velocidades. Puede producirda_os a ia cortadora de cesped j
[y se puede romper, causando asi es ones persona es. j
5. LubriqueeicigQe_aidei motoryla superficieinternadel adaptador de ia
cuchiiia con aceite iigero. Deslice el adaptador de ia cuchiiia sobre
el cigQe_aidei motor. Instale ia cuchilla en ei adaptador con el lado
marcado "Bottom" (inferior) (o con el numerode parte) hacia el piso
cuando la cortadora de cesped esta.en posici6n de funcionamiento.
AsegQreseque ia cuchilla quede aiineada y asentadaen las bridas
del adaptador.
6. Coloque el soporte de campana de la cuchilla en ia misma. Aiinee
las muescas del soporte de campana de la cuchilla con los orificios
peque_osde la cuchilla.
7. Vuelva a colocar el pemo hexagonal y ajQstelosegQnlos siguientes
valores de torsi6n: 450 Ib-pulg como minimo,600 Ib-pulg como
ma.ximo.
Para garantizar ia operaci6n segura de la cortadora de cesped, revise
periddicamente el perno de la cuchilla para determinar si esta.bien
ajustado.

la oxidaci6n.
• Refierasea la PREPARACIONDEL MOTOR para instrucciones de
almacenaje de motor correctas.
• Almacene la unidad en una zona limpia y seca. No la almacene
cerca de materiales corrosivos como pot ejemplo fertilizantes.
Cuando almacene cuaiquier tipo de equipo motorizadoen un gaip6n
de dep6sito met_.iicoo con poca ventilaci6n, tenga especial cuidado
de realizarle un tratamiento antioxidanteal equipo. Use aceite ligero o
silicona para recubrir ei equipo, especialmente los cables y partes m6viles
de su cortadora antes de aimacenarla.

sionesde su motorparalosperiodosde tiempoenumeradosa continuaci6n,
siemprequeno hayaabuso,negligenciao mantenimientoindebidode su
motortodoterrenopeque_o.Su sistemade controlde emisionespuedeincluir
piezastalescomoel carburador,el filtro de aire, elsistemade encendido,el
silenciadoryel conversorcatalitico.Tambienpuedeincluirconectoresy otras
unidadesrelacionadascon lasemisiones.Dondeexistaunacondici6ncubierta

de emisionesparadefectosenpiezasduranteun periodode dos a_os,sujeto cubiertapot lagaranfiaes defectuosa,Sears reparar_o sustituir_dicha parte.
Responsabilidades del propietario en relacibn con la garantia
Comopropietariodel motortodo terrenopeque_o,Ud.es responsablede la
realizaci6ndel mantenimientorequeridoquese incluyeen las instrucciones
de operaci6ny mantenimiento.Searsrecomiendaquese conserventodoslos
recibosrelativosal mantenimientode su motortodoterrenopeque_o,pero
no pude denegarla garantiasimplementepor la faltade los mismos,o por su
incumplimientodel mantenimientoprogramatic.Comopropietariodel motor
peque_otodoterrenodebe saberque, sinembargo,Sears le puedenegar
lacoberturade lagarantiasi su motortodoterrenopeque6oouna piezadel
mismohanfalladodebidoa abuso,negligencia,mantenimientoindebidoo
a modificacionesno aprobadas.Ud.es responsablede presentarsu motor
todoterrenopeque6oa un distribuidorde serviciosSearsautorizadotan pronto
comoaparezcaun problema.Las reparacionesde la garantiasinconfiicto
debencompletarseen un plazode tiempo razonable,no superiora 30 dias.Si

quelas piezascongarantiano tendr_n defectosen materialesni mano
de obra que provoquenla falla de las mismasduranteun periodode
dos aSosa partir de la fechaen queel motorse entregaa un comprador
particular.
3. Sin cargo
La reparaci6no reemplazode cualquierpartecongarantia se realizar_
sin cargo alguno parael poseedor,incluyendotareasdediagn6sticoque
permitandeterminarsi una partecongarantiaes defectuosa,siempreque
dichodiagn6sticose realiceen un distribuidordeserviciosSearsautoriza-
do. Parael servicio de lagarantiadeemisiones,contacteal distribuidorde
serviciosSearsautorizadom_s cercanoincluidoen las"P_ginasamarillas"
en lascategorias"Motores,gasolina","Motoresde gasolina","Podadoras
de cesped",o similares.
4. Reclamacionesy exclusionesa la cobertura
Las reclamacionesde lagarantia debenenviarsede acuerdocon las
disposicionesde la politica de garantia para motoresSears.La cobertura
de lagarantia excluir_defectosen piezascongarantia queno sean partes
originalesSears,o abuso,negligenciao mantenimientoincorrecto,tal y
como se estableceen la politica de garantia para motoresSears.Sears no
es responsablede lasfallas en piezascongarantia provocadaspor el uso
de partesa_adidas,que no seanoriginaleso quese hayan modificado.
5. Mantenimiento
Cualquierpartecon garantiaque no este programadaparaset reempla-
zadacomo mantenimientorequerido,o que s61odeba inspeccionarse
regularmentealefecto de "inspeccioneo reemplacesegL]nsea necesario",
estar_garantizadacontradefectosduranteel periodode la garantia.Todas
las piezasgarantizadasqueesten programadaspara su reemplazopara
cumplir con los requisitosde mantenimientoestar_ngarantizadass61o
por el periodoanterioral primerreemplazoprogramaticparadicha pieza.
Cualquierpiezade recambioquesea equivalenteen funcionamientoy
durabilidadpuedeusarse para realizarmantenimientoo reparaciones.El

en periodode garantia.

informaci6npara el mantenimientode motores.
Busque el periodo de duraci6n de emisiones importantes yla informaci6n de clasificaci6n de aire en
la etiqueta de emisiones de su motor
Los motores cuyo cumpiimiento con los estAndares de emisi6n Tier 2 de la Comisi6n de Recursos Ambientales de California (CARB)
est6 certificado deben exhibir la informaci6n relacionada con el periodo de duraci6n de ias emisiones y la clasificaci6n de aire. Sears
Brands Management Corporation ponen esta informaci6n a disposici6n del consumidor en nuestras etiquetas de emisiones.
Ei Periodo de Duraci6n de las Emisiones describe el nQmero de horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento para el cuai se certifica que
el motor cumpie con ias reglas de emisi6n, descontando el mantenimiento adecuado del mismo segQn las instrucciones de oper-
aci6n y mantenimiento. Se utilizan las siguientes categonas:
Moderado:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 125 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.
Inmediato:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 250 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.
Extendido:Se certifica que el motor cumpie con las reglas de emisi6n durante 500 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.
Por ejemplo, una cortadora de c6sped tJpica que se empuja desde arras se usa entre 20 y 25 horas por aSo. Por Io tanto, el Periodo
de Duraci6n de Emisiones de un motor con una clasificaci6n intermedia sena equivaiente a entre 10 y 12 aSos.
Laciasificaci6n de aire es un nQmero calculado para describir el nivel relativo de emisiones para un grupo de motores en particular.
Cuanto menor sea la clasificaci6n de aire, mayor es la limpieza del motor. La informaci6n se presenta de forma grAfica en la etiqueta
de emisiones.
Despu_s del 1 de julio de 2000, busque el periodo de cumplimiento de las reglas de
emisiones en la etiqueta de cumplimiento de las reglas de emisiones del motor
Despu6s del 1 de julio de 2000 se certificarA que determinados motores Sears Brands Management Corporation cumplen
con los estAndares de emisiones de la fase 2 de la Agencia de Protecci6n Ambientai de los Estados Unidos (USEPA). Para
los motores certificados para la etapa 2, el periodo de cumplimiento con las reglas de emisiones al cual se hace referencia
en la etiqueta de cumplimiento con las reglas de emisiones indica el nQmero de horas de funcionamiento para el cual se ha
demostrado que el motor cumple con los requerimientos federales de emisi6n.
Para los motores con desplazamiento inferior a 225 cc, Categoria C = 125 horas, B = 250 horas y A = 500 horas.
Para los motores con desplazamiento de 225 cc o mAs, Categoria C = 250 horas, B = 500 horas y A = 1000 horas.
El desplazamiento de los motores de la serie modelo 150112 es 249 cc.
