Convert to Edging Mode (Fig.H)
CAUTION: The edge guide should only be
used when in the edging mode.
WARNING: Disconnect the plug from the
power source before making anyadjustments.
The trimmer can be used in trimming mode or edging mode
to trim overhanging grass along lawn edges and flowerbeds.
To convert the trimmer to edging mode:
1. Press the convert-to-edge button

and rotate the
motor housing

180° counterclockwise, until the
motor housing snaps into edgeposition.
Trimming (Fig. F, G)
With the trimmer on, angle it and swing side to side as
shown in FigureF.
Maintain a cutting angle of 5° to 10°. Do not exceed 10°. Cut
with the tip of the line.
Maintain a minimum distance of 24" (610 mm) between the
guard and your feet as shown in FigureG.
Switching Trimmer On and Off (Fig.A)
WARNING: Never attempt to lock the
trigger in the onposition.

Attaching Extension Cord (Fig. D)
An extension cord retainer

is built into the main handle
that prevents the cord from comingunplugged.
• To use this feature, simply double the extension cord
about 8" (203mm) from the end, and insert it into the
slot

in the end of the handle area as shown in Fig.D.
Releasing the Cutting Line (Fig. A)
In transit, the cutting line is taped to the spool housing

• Remove the tape holding the cutting line to the
spoolhousing.
Installing the Guard (Fig. C)
WARNING: Never remove the guard.
Damage or personal injury couldresult.
WARNING: NEVER OPERATE
APPLIANCE WITHOUT GUARD FIRMLY IN PLACE.
The guard must always be properly attached on the
appliance to protect theuser.
1. Remove the guard screw

fully onto the trimmer head

Make sure the tabs

on the guard engage the ribs on
the trimmerhead.
3. Continue to slide the guard on until it “snaps”into place.
The locking tab should snap into the housingslot.
4. Using a crosshead screwdriver, insert the guard screw
and tightensecurely.
5. Once the guard is installed, remove the covering from the
line cut-off blade, located on the edge of theguard.
Assembling Upper and Lower Poles (Fig.B)
To Attach the Poles:
1. When installing the lower pole

into the upper pole

align the detent lock

2. Press the two poles together so the detent lock

engages the detent slot

WARNING: Always check to make sure
that the detent lock is completely secured in place.
If the detent lock is not completely secured it could
result in the assemblys becoming disconnected
creating a hazardous condition. Periodically check the
connections to insure that the detent lock is completely
secured inplace.
ASSEMBLY AND ADJUSTMENTS

adjustments or removing/installing attachments
or accessories, when replacing line, or prior to
cleaning. An accidental start‑up can causeinjury.
• Hook the loop formed by doubling the cord over the
extension cord retainer

. Gently tug on the cord to
insure that it is firmly retained in the mainhandle.
• Plug the receptacle end of the extension cord into the
power cord plug
