3. Inspect condition of blade. Refer to
Figure 4.20.
4. If blade is in good condition, sharpen at 22
to 28 degrees. DO NOT sharpen beyond
existing cuttingedge. See Figure 4.22.

5. Check blade balance after sharpening.
If necessary, correct blade balance by
grinding the heavy end of blade.
6. Reinstall blade. Refer to Figure 4.21.
Torque blade mounting bolts to
recommended range of 30 to 40 ft. lbs.
CAUTION
Before attempting any adjustments or repairs, STOP
the engine, remove the key, remove the spark plug
wire from the spark plug and secure wire away from
plug. On Rear Engine Riders equipped with a grass
catcher attachment, the air lifts should be replaced l
when the blade is replaced.

MOWER DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT
Inspect mower drive belt as described in 3.2.3.,
CHECK MOWER DRIVE BELT on Page 9.
Replace belt if signs of excessive wear and/or
damage are present.

BELT REMOVAL
1. Remove mower drive belt cover. Refer
to Section 3.2.3.
2. Remove old belt.
BELT REPLACEMENT
1. Remove idler. See Figure 4.23.
2. Move transmission shift lever to the
neutral (N) position.
3. Follow procedures for standing the Rear
Engine Rider on rear bumper. Refer to
Section 4.2.3.
4. Route new belt through engine belt
(engine belt guide shown in Figure 4.24)
guide to engine pulley. Route belt as shown
for the individual models shown in Figure
4.23.

5. Rotate clutch yoke (clutch yoke shown in
Figure 4.18) outwith your hand and work belt
between drive and driven discs.
6. Move transmission shift lever to the #5
position and place belt over dnve disc and
into dnve pulley belt groove. See Figure 4.24.
7. Route belt onto spindle pulley. Make sure
belt is inside spindle belt guide and idler belt
guide.
8. Reinstall idler removed in Step 1. The
idler belt guide will self locate on tab. Tighten
bolt securely.
