8. TIPS FOR ENERGY SAVING
Try not to open the doors too often, especially when the weather is damp and hot. Once you open a door, close it as
soon as possible.
Every now and then check if the appliance is sufficiently ventilated (adequate air circulation behind the appliance).
During normal temperature conditions, the thermostat should be placed at the middle setting.
Before loading the appliance with packages of fresh food, make sure they are cooled to ambient temperature.
Layers of ice and frost increase energy consumption, so defrost the freezer as soon as the layer is ¼-inch thick.
If there is an outer condenser, the rear wall should be always kept free of dust or other impurities.
The appliance should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from heat-producing appliances or heating
ducts, and out of direct sunlight.
Let hot foods cool to room temperature before placing in the appliance. Overloading the appliance forces the
compressor to run longer. Foods that freeze too slowly may lose quality or spoil.
Be sure to wrap foods properly, and wipe containers dry before placing them in the appliance. This cuts down on
frost build-up inside the appliance.
Shelves and storage bins should not be lined with aluminum foil, wax paper or paper toweling. Liners interfere with
cold air circulation, making the appliance less efficient.
Organize and label food to reduce door openings and extended searches. Remove as many items as needed at one
time, and close the door as soon as possible.
9. DISPOSAL
Old units still have some residual value. An environmentally friendly method of disposal will ensure that valuable raw
materials can be recovered and used again. Insulation materials and the refrigerant used in your unit require special
disposal procedures. Ensure that none of the pipes on the back of the unit are damaged prior to disposal. Up-to-date
information concerning options of disposing of your old unit and packaging from the new one can be obtained from your
local sanitation office.
When disposing of an old unit, break off any old locks or latches and remove the door as a safeguard.
