_ ARNING:The operationof any lawnmower

Alwayswear safetyglasseswhileoperatingthe
mower,or while performingany adjustmentsor
repairson it.
Starting Engine
_ WARNING:Be sureno one otherthanthe op-
erator is standingnearthe lawn mower while
startingengineoroperatingmower.Never
run engineindoorsor in enclosed,poorly ventilated
areas.Engine exhaustcontainscarbon monoxide, an
odorlessand deadly gas. Keephands,feet, hair and
looseclothing awayfrom any movingpartson engine
and lawnmower.
,d_! WARNING:Alwayskeep handsand feet clear
of equipmentmoving parts.Do not use a pres-
surized starting fluid. Vapors are flammable.
1. Pullout the chokeknob locatedon the left sideof the
upperhandle,See Figure4-2,
NOTE: Useof the chokeis notnecessaryif the engineis
warmorthe air temperatureis high.
2. Standingbehindthe mower,depressthe bladecontrol
and holdit againstthe upperhandle.
3. Pullthe startergriplightlyuntilresistanceis felt,
then pull rapidlyto overcomecompression,prevent
kickbackandstartengine.Repeatif necessary.See
Figure4-2.
IMPORTANT:Donot allowthe startergrip to snap
backagainstthe rope guide.Returnit gentlyto prevent
damageto the starter.
4. Whenenginewarmsup,push inthe chokeknob.See

Stopping Engine
1. Releasebladecontrolto stop theengineand blade.

_ik ARNING:Neveroperate yourmower without
either the rear door or the entire grass catcher
assembly firmly secured.
Besurelawnisclearof stones,sticks,wire,or other
objectswhichcoulddamagelawnmowerorengine.
Such objectscouldbe accidentlythrownby the mower
in anydirectionandcauseseriouspersonalinjuryto the
operatorandothers.

_ ARNING:if you strike a foreign object,
stopthe engine.Removewirefrom the spark
plug,thoroughly inspectmower for any damage,
and repair damage before restarting and operating.
Extensive vibration of mowerduring operation is an
indicationof damage.The unit should be promptly
inspectedand repaired.
1. Oncethe engineis running,squeezethedrive
controlto propel mower.For best results,do not cut
wetgrassand nevercutoff morethanone-thirdof
the total lengthof thegrass.
Using as Mulcher
Formulchinggrass,removethe grasscatcherfrom the
mower.Thereardischargedoorshouldbeclosed.
Foreffectivemulching,do notcut wet grass.
Newor thick grassmay requirea narrowercut.
Adjustgroundspeedaccordingto conditionof lawn.
if thegrasshas beenallowedto growin excessof
fourinches,mulchingis not recommended.Usethe
grasscatcherto bagclippingsinstead.
Using Grass Catcher
Youcan usethe grass catcherto collectclippingswhile
youareoperatingthe mower.
1. Attachgrasscatcherfollowinginstructionsinthe
Setupsection.Grassclippingswillautomatically
collectin bagas you runmower.Operatemowertill
grassbagis full.
2. Stopenginecompletelyby releasingthe blade
control.Makesurethatthe unithas cometo a
completestop.
3. Liftdischargedoorand pull grassbag up and away
fromthe mowerto disposeof the grass clippings.

Be sure no one other
than the operator is
standing near the
lawn mower while
starting engine or
operating mower.

carbon monoxide, an
odorless and deadly
gas. Keep hands,
feet, hair and loose
clothing away from
any moving parts
on engine and lawn
mower.
