GENERAL OPERATION

• Readthisoperator'smanual carefullyin itsentiretybefore

attemptingto assemblethis machine.Read,understand,and

followall instructionsonthe machineandinthe manualsbefore

operation.Keepthismanualina safeplacefor futureand regular

referenceandfor orderingreplacementparts

• Becompletelyfamiliarwiththe controlsandthe properuseof this

machinebeforeoperatingit.

• Thismachineis a precisionpieceof powerequipment,not a

plaything.Therefore,exerciseextremecautionat alltimes.This

machinehas beendesignedto performonejob: to mowgrass.

Do not useit for anyother purpose.

• Neverallowchildrenunder14yearsof ageto operatethis

machine.Children14andover shouldreadandunderstandthe

instructionsand safe operationpracticesin thismanualandon

the machineandshouldbetrainedandsupervisedbyan adult.

Removeallstones,sticks,wire,bones,toysandotherforeign

roads,sidewalks,bystandersand the like.Also, avoiddischarg-

ingmaterialagainstawall orobstruction,whichmaycause

dischargedmaterialto ricochetbacktowardthe operator.

• Tohelpavoidbladecontactor a thrownobjectinjury, stayin

operatorzonebehindhandlesand keepchildren,bystanders,

helpersandpetsat least75feetfrommowerwhileit is inopera-

tion.Stopmachineif anyoneentersarea.

• Alwayswear safetyglassesor safetygogglesduringoperation

andwhile performingan adjustmentor repairto protectyoureyes.

Thrownobjectswhichricochetcancauseseriousinjuryto the

eyes.

Wearsturdy,rough-soledwork shoesand close-fittingslacks

and shirts.Shirtsand pantsthat coverthe arms and legsand

steel-toedshoesare recommended.Neveroperatethis machine

inbarefeet,sandals,slipperyor light-weight(e.g.canvas)shoes.

Donot put handsor feetnearrotatingpartsor underthe cutting

deck. Contactwith bladecan amputatefingers,hands,toesand

feet.

A missingor damageddischargecovercan causebladecontact

or thrownobjectinjuries.

• Manyinjuriesoccur as a resultof the mowerbeingpulledoverthe

footduringafall causedby slippingor tripping.Do not holdon to

the mowerif you arefalling:releasethe handleimmediately.

Neverpullthe mowerbacktowardyouwhileyou arewalking.If

you mustbackthe mowerawayfroma wallor obstructionfirst

lookdownandbehindto avoidtrippingandthen followthese

steps:

1. Stepbackfrommowerto fullyextendyourarmsforward.

2. Be sureyouare wellbalancedwithsurefooting.

3. Pullthe mowerback slowly,no morethan half waytoward

you.

4. Repeatthese stepsas needed.

Donot operatethe mowerwhileunderthe influenceof alcoholor

drugs.

Donot engagethe self-propelledmechanismon machinesso

equippedwhilestartingengine.

• The bladecontrolhandleis a safetydevice.Neverattemptto

bypassits operation.Doingso makesthe safetydevice inopera-

tiveandmayresultin personalinjurythroughcontactwiththe

rotatingblade.The bladecontrolhandlemustoperateeasily

in bothdirectionsandautomaticallyreturnto the disengaged

positionwhenreleased.

• Neveroperatethe mowerinwetgrass.Alwaysbe sureof your

footing. A slip and fall cancauseseriouspersonalinjury.Ifyou

feelyou arelosingyourfooting,releasethe bladecontrolhandle

immediatelyandthe bladewill stop rotatingwithinthreeseconds.

• Mowonly in daylightor goodartificiallight.Walk,neverrun.

• Stopthe bladewhencrossinggraveldrives,walksor roads.

• Ifthe equipmentshouldstart to vibrateabnormally,stop the

engineandcheckimmediatelyfor the cause.Vibrationis gener-

allya warningof trouble.

• Shutthe engineoff andwaituntilthe bladecomesto a complete

stopbeforeremovingthe grasscatcheror uncloggingthe chute.

Thecuttingbladecontinuesto rotatefor afewsecondsafterthe

bladecontrolis released.Neverplaceany partof the body inthe

bladeareauntilyou aresurethe bladehasstoppedrotating.

• Neveroperatemowerwithoutpropertrail shield,dischargecover,

grasscatcher,bladecontrolhandleor othersafetyprotectivede-

vicesin placeandworking.Neveroperatemowerwithdamaged

safetydevices.Failureto do socan resultinpersonalinjury.

Mufflerandenginebecomehotandcan causea burn.Do not

touch.

• Neverattemptto makea wheelorcuttingheightadjustmentwhile

theengineis running.

• Onlyuse partsand accessoriesmadeforthis machineby the

manufactureras listedin the Partspagesof this Operator's

Manual.Failureto doso can resultin personalinjury.

• Whenstartingengine,pullcordslowlyuntil resistanceis felt,then

pullrapidly.Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)willpull

handandarm towardenginefasterthanyoucan let go. Broken

bones,fractures,bruisesor sprainscould result.

• If situationsoccurwhicharenot coveredinthismanual,usecare

SLOPE OPERATION

Slopesare a majorfactor relatedto slipandfall accidents,whichcan

resultinsevereinjury.Operationon slopesrequiresextra caution.If

youfeel uneasyona slope,do not mowit. Foryour safety,usethe

SlopeGuideincludedas partof thismanualto measureslopesbefore

operatingthis machineon a slopedor hillyarea. If the slopeis greater

than 15degrees,donot mowit.

Do:

Mowacrossthefaced slopes;neverupanddown.Exercise

extremecautionwhenchangingdirectionon slopes.

• Watchfor holes,ruts, rocks,hiddenobjects,or bumpswhichcan

causeyou to slip ortrip.Tallgrasscan hideobstacles.

• Alwaysbesureof yourfooting.A slipandfall can causeserious

personalinjury.Ifyou feelyou arelosingyourbalance,release

the bladecontrolhandleimmediatelyandthe bladewillstop

rotatingwithinthree (3) seconds.

DoNot:

• Donot mow neardrop-offs,ditchesor embankments,because

you couldloseyourfootingorbalance.

• Donot mow slopesgreaterthan 15degreesas shownon the

slopeguide.

• Donot mowon wetgrass.Unstablefootingcouldcauseslipping.

CHILDREN

Tragicaccidentscan occurif the operatoris not alertto the presence

of children.Childrenareoftenattractedto themowerandthe mowing

activity.Theydonot understandthe dangers.Neverassumethat

childrenwill remainwhereyou lastsawthem.

Keepchildrenout of the mowingareaandunderwatchfulcareof

a responsibleadultotherthan theoperator.

• Be alertand turn moweroff if a child entersthe area.

• Beforeand whilemovingbackwards,look behindanddown for

smallchildren.

• Useextremecare whenapproachingblindcorners,doorways,

shrubs,trees,orotherobjectsthatmayobscureyourvisionof a

child whomayrunintothe mower.

• Keepchildrenawayfrom hot or runningengines.Theycan suffer

burnsfroma hot muffler.

• Neverallowchildrenunder 14yearsof age to operatethis

machine.Children14andovershouldreadand understandthe

instructionsandsafeoperationpracticesinthis manualandon

the machineand be trainedandsupervisedby an adult.

SERVICE

Safe HandlingOf Gasoline:

• Toavoid personalinjuryor propertydamageuseextremecare

in handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammableand the

vaporsareexplosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhen

gasolineis spilledon yourselfor yourclothes,whichcan ignite.

Washyour skinandchangeclothesimmediately.

• Useonly an approvedgasolinecontainer.

• Neverfill containersinsidea vehicleoron a truck or trailer bed

witha plasticliner.Alwaysplacecontainerson thegroundaway

fromyourvehiclebeforefilling.

• Removegas-poweredequipmentfrom thetruck or trailerand

refuelit on the ground.If thisis notpossible,then refuelsuch

equipmenton a trailer witha portablecontainer,ratherthanfrom

a gasolinedispensernozzle.

• Keepthe nozzlein contactwith the rimof the fueltank or

containeropeningat all timesuntilfuelingis complete.Donot use

a nozzlelock-opendevice.

• Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersources

of ignition.

• Neverfuelmachineindoorsbecauseflammablevaporswill

accumulateinthe area.

• Neverremovegas cap oraddfuel whileengineis hotor running.

Allowengineto coolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.

• Neverover-fillfuel tank.Toallowfor expansionof the fuel,donot

fill abovethe bottomof the fueltankneck.

• Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.

• If gasolineis spilled,wipe it offthe engineandequipment.Move

machineto anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingengine.

• Neverstorethe machineorfuel containernearanopenflame,

sparkor pilot lightas on a waterheater,spaceheater,furnace,

clothesdryer orothergas appliances.

• Toreducefirehazard,keepmachinefreeof grass,leaves,or

otherdebrisbuild-up.Cleanupoil orfuel spillageand removeany

fuel-soakeddebris.

Allowmachineto cool at least5 minutesbeforestoring.

GeneralService:

• Neverrunanengineindoorsor ina poorlyventilatedarea.Engine

exhaustcontainscarbonmonoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas.

• Beforecleaning,repairing,or inspecting,makecertainthe

bladeandall movingpartshavestopped.Disconnectthe spark

plugwireandgroundagainstthe engineto preventunintended

starting.

Checkthebladeandenginemountingboltsat frequentintervals

for propertightness.Also, visuallyinspectbladefordamage(e.g.,

bent,cracked,worn).Replacebladewiththeoriginalequipment

manufacture's(O.E.M.)bladeonly, listedin the Parts pagesof this

manual.Useof partswhichdo not meetthe originalequipment

specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand compro-

misesafety!

• Mowerbladesare sharpandcan cut. Wrapthe bladeor wear

gloves,anduse extracautionwhen servicingthem.

Keepall nuts,bolts,andscrewstightto be suretheequipmentis

insafeworkingcondition.

Nevertamperwithsafetydevices.Checktheirproperoperation

regularly.

Afterstrikinga foreignobject, stopthe engine,disconnectthe

sparkplugwireand groundagainstthe engine.Thoroughly

inspectthe mowerfor anydamage.Repairthe damagebefore

startingandoperatingthe mower.

Neverattemptto makea wheelorcuttingheightadjustmentwhile

the engineisrunning.

• Grasscatchercomponents,dischargecover,and trailshieldare

subjectto wearand damagewhichcouldexposemovingpartsor

allowobjectsto bethrown.Forsafetyprotection,frequentlycheck

componentsand replaceimmediatelywithoriginalequipment

manufacturer's(O.E.M.)parts only,listed inthe Parts pages

of thismanual.Useof partswhichdo notmeetthe original

equipmentspecificationsmayleadto improperperformanceand

compromisesafety!

Donot changethe engine'sgovernorsettingor over-speedthe

engine.Thegovernorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeed

of the engine.

Checkfuel line,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyfor cracksor

leaks.Replaceifnecessary.

Donot crankenginewith sparkplugremoved.

• Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,as necessary.

• Observeproperdisposallawsand regulations.Improperdisposal

of fluidsandmaterialscan harmthe environment.

Accordingto theConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)

andthe U.S.EnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA),thisproduct

hasanAverageUsefulLifeof seven(7)years,or 140hoursof

operation.At the endof theAverageUsefulLifehavethe machine

inspectedannuallyby a Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer

to ensurethatallmechanicaland safetysystemsare working

properlyand notwornexcessively.Failureto do so can result in

accidents,injuriesor death.

DO NOT MODIFY ENGINE

Toavoidseriousinjuryor death,do not modifyengineinany way.

Tamperingwiththe governorsettingcanleadto a runawayengineand

causeitto operateat unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactory setting

of enginegovernor.Doingso will voidthe productwarranty.

NOTICE REGARDING EMISSIONS

Engineswhich are certifiedtocomplywith Californiaand federal

EPAemissionregulationsfor SORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)are

certifiedto operateon regularunleadedgasoline,andmayinclude

the followingemissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification(EM) and

ThreeWayCatalyst(TWC)ifso equipped.

SPARK ARRESTOR

Thismachineisequippedwithaninternalcombustionengineand

shouldnotbe usedonor nearany unimprovedforest-covered,

brush-coveredor grass-coveredland unlessthe engine'sexhaust

systemisequippedwitha sparkarrestormeetingapplicablelocalor

statelaws(if any).

Ifa sparkarrestorisused,itshouldbe maintainedin effectiveworking

orderby theoperator.Inthe Stateof Californiathe aboveis required

bylaw(Section4442of the CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Other

statesmayhavesimilarlaws. Federallawsapplyon federallands.

A spark arrestor(Part No. 398067)for the mufflerisavailablethrough

your nearestSears PartsandRepairServiceCenter.

Read, understand, and follow all instructions in the manual(s) before attempting to assemble and

operate

DANGER -- ROTATING BLADES

To reduce the risk of injury, keep hands and feet away. Do not operate unless discharge cover or grass

catcher is in its proper place. If damaged, replace immediately.

DANGER -- BYSTANDERS

Do not mow when children or others are around.

DANGER-- HAND/FOOT CUT

Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts.

DANGER -- THROWN DEBRIS

Remove objects that can be thrown by the blade in any direction. Wear safety glasses.

DANGER -- SLOPES

Use extra caution on slopes. Do not mow slopes greater than 150.

WARNING--GASOLINE IS FLAMMABLE

Allow the engine to cool at least two minutes before refueling.

WARNING-- CARBON MONOXIDE

Never run an engine indoors or in a poorly ventilated area. Engine exhaust contains carbon

monoxide, an odorless and deadly gas.

WARNING-- HOT SURFACE

Engine parts, especially the muffler, become extremely hot during operation. Allow engine and

muffler to cool before touching.

1. Cuteachcornerof the cartonverticallyfromtop to bottom.

2. Removeall looseparts.

androllunit out of carton.

2. Checkcartonthoroughlyfor anyotherlooseparts.

ASSEMBLY

Attaching The Handle

1. Removeany packingmaterialwhich may be betweenupperand

lowerhandles.

A. Pullupandbackon upperhandleas shownin Figure1.

Makecertainthe lowerhandle is seatedsecurelyintothe

handlemountingbrackets.Do notcrimpcableswhile lifting

the handleup.

B. Tightenstarknobsto secureupperhandleto lowerhandle.

Makesurethateach carriagebolt is seatedproperlyin the

handle.

2. Locatethe hairpinclip onthe weldpinon eachsideof lower

handle.

A. Removehairpinclipfromthishole. Usinga pairof pliers,

inserthairpinclip intothe holeonpinclosestto thebracket.

B. Inserta carriagebolt fromthe manualbag intothe upper

holeonthe handlemountingbracket.Securewith one plastic

wingnut,also includedin themanualbag.Repeatonother

sidewith remaininghardware.

bag.The chutedoorhas beendesignedto movethe starterrope out of

thewayof the bagwhenthe chutedooris opened.

Attaching the Grass Catcher

Themowerwasshippedwith the mulchingbaffleinstalledon the unit.

For baggingpurposes,youwill haveto attachthe grassbagandits

adapterin placeof the mulchingbaffle.

1. Removethreewingnutsholdingthe mulchingbafflein placeand

removefromunit.SeeFigure4.

2. Replacewithgrassbagadapter,whilemakingsurethe frontlipof

adaptergoes undertheedge of the deck.Securewith wingnuts

previouslyremoved.

3. Liftchutedooronthe grassbagadapterand slidegrassbagonto

the adapter.SeeFigure5.

Cutting Height

Thecuttingheightadjustmentleveris locatedabovethe rearleft

wheel.SeeFigure7Ainsert.

1. Pullleveroutandawayfrommower.

2. Moveleverforwardor backfor desiredcuttingheight.

3. Releaselevertowardsmowerdeck.

Thefrontwheelcuttingheightisdeterminedby selectingoneof six

positionson eachcasterassembly.To adjustfrontcuttingheight,refer

to Figure7Bandproceedas follows:

1. Removewing nut fromaxle bolt.

Slideaxle bolt andwavewasher

fromthe assemblyandselecta

cuttingheight.

2. Withwavewasheron axle bolt,

reinserthardwarein the square

holedesiredthroughwheel

assemblyandsecurewithwing

nut previouslyremoved.

IMPORTANT:All wheels mustbe placedin the samerelativeposition.

For roughor unevenlawns,movethe heightadjustmentleverto a

higherposition.This will stopscalpingof grass.

Thecasterscan belockedina straightaheadpositionor positionto

swivelfreely.SeeFigure70 insert.

1. Liftlock pins.

2. Placeinlargerholesto lockwheels.Placepins in smallerholesto

allowcastersto rotatefreelyfor turning.

Drive Control

Theadjustmentwheelis locatedin the drivecontrol handlehousing

andis usedto tightenor loosenthe drivebelt.Youwill haveto adjust

thedrive controlif any of the followinghappens:

1. The mowerdoes notpropelitselfwiththedrive controlengaged.

2. The mower'sdrivewheelshesitatewith the drivecontrolengaged.

Ifeither of theseconditionsoccur,rotatetheadjustmentwheel

clockwiseto tightenandcounter-clockwiseto loosencableto adjust

thedrive control.See Figure8.

NOTE:Forsomepeoplethe drivecontrolmaynot beina comfortable

position.Youcan adjustthe handleby tighteningthe adjustmentwheel.

Rapidretractionof startercord (kickback)will pull handand arm

towardenginefasterthan youcan let go. Brokenbones,fractures,

bruisesorsprainscould result.

NOTE:Ifenginefloods,wait a fewminutesto restart.

TO STOP ENGINE

1. Releasebladecontrolto stopthe engineandblade.

Waitfor the bladeto stopcompletelybeforeperforminganyworkon

the moweror to removethe grass catcher.

USING YOUR LAWN MOWER

Besure lawnis clearof stones,sticks,wire,orotherobjectswhich

coulddamagelawnmoweror engine.Suchobjectscouldbeaccidently

thrownby themowerin anydirectionandcauseseriouspersonalinjury

to the operatorandothers.

Theoperationof any lawnmowercan resultinforeignobjectsbeing

thrownintothe eyes,whichcan damageyoureyes severely.Always

wearsafetyglasseswhileoperatingthe mower,or whileperforming

anyadjustmentsor repairson it.

1. Oncethe engineis running,squeezethe drivecontrol againstthe

upperhandleto propelmower.Releaseit to disengagethe drive.

2. Usethe shiftleverto selectthe forwardspeedof the mower- 1

is the slowestspeed,6 is thefastest.Whenchangingspeed

selection,releasethedrivecontrol.

IMPORTANT:Movethe shift leveronlywhenthe engineis running.

Changingthe shift leversettingwith theengineoff can damagethe

mower.

USING AS MULCHER

Formulchinggrass,removethe grasscatcheror the sidedischarge

chutefromthe mower,and reattachthe mulchingbaffle.Fordfective

mulching,do notcut wet grass.Ifthe grasshasbeenallowedto grow

inexcessof fourinches,mulchingis not recommended.Usethegrass

catcherto bagclippingsinstead.

USING GRASS CATCHER

Youcanuse the grasscatcherto collectclippingswhileyou are

operatingthe mower.

1. Attachgrass catcherfollowinginstructionsinthe Assembly

section.Grassclippingswill automaticallycollect in the bag as

you runthe mower.

2. Operatethe mowertill the grass bagis full.

3. Stopenginecompletelyby releasingthe bladecontrol.Makesure

thatthe unit hascometo a completestop.

4. Whileholdingthe grassbagby boththe rearhandleandthe lower

handle,lift the grass bag straightup offthe adapter.Thechute

doorwill movethe ropeoutof the wayof the bag.

5. Continuingto hold the lowerhandle,raisethe rearof the grass

bagand releasethe lowerhandleovera properreceptacle.The

grassbagwill openandthe grassclippingswill disperse.When

replacingthe grass bag,be surethetop of the bagrestsonthe

wire supportbetweenthe handles.

Ifyou strikeaforeignobject,stoptheengine.Removewire fromthe

sparkplug,thoroughlyinspectmowerfor anydamage,andrepair

damagebeforerestartingand operating.Extensivevibrationof mower

duringoperationis an indicationof damage.Theunit shouldbe

promptlyinspectedand repaired.

CLEANING DECK

1. Disconnectsparkplug wire. Draingasolinefromlawn moweror

placea pieceof plasticunderthegas cap.

2. Tip mowersothat it restson the housing,keepingthe mufflerside

Nevertip the mowermorethan 900inany directionanddo not leave

the mowertippedfor any lengthof time. Oilcandraininto the upper

3. Scrapeandcleanthe undersideof thedeckwitha suitabletool.

Donot spraywithwater.

IMPORTANT:Donot usea pressurewasheror gardenhoseto clean

yourunit.Thesemaycausedamageto bearings,or the engine.The

useof waterwill resultin shortenedlife and reduceserviceability.

4. Putthemowerback on itswheelsonthe ground.Ifyou hadput

plasticunderthe gas capearlier,makesureto removeit now.

REPLACING REAR FLAP

To replacerearflap,proceedas follows:

1. To removerearflap, lift reardoor,removescrew,and pressflap in

oneither sideto removefromhole.SeeFigure16.

2. Removescrewandflapfromoppositeholeandreplacewithnew

flap inthe oppositeorderand mannerof removal.

ADJUSTING SHIFT LEVER CABLE

Periodicadjustmentof the six speedshift cablemay be necessarydue

BLADE CARE

Periodicallyinspectthe bladeadapterfor cracks,especiallyif you

strikea foreignobject.Replacewhen necessary.Followthe steps

protectyourhandswitha pairof heavyglovesor usea heavyrag to

holdthe blade.

1. Disconnectspark plug bootfrom spark plug.Turnmoweron its

side makingsurethatthe air filterandthe carburetorare facing

up.

2. Removethe boltand the bladebell supportwhichholdthe blade

andthe bladeadapterto the enginecrankshaft.See Figure18.

3. Removebladeandadapterfrom the crankshaft.

4. Removebladefromthe adapterfor testingbalance.Balancethe

bladeon a roundshaftscrewdriverto check. Removemetalfrom

the heavyside untilit balancesevenly.When sharpeningthe

blade,follow theoriginalangle of grind.Grind eachcuttingedge

equallyto keepthe bladebalanced.

boltfor correcttorque.

BELT CARE

Replacing Fuse

PREPARING THE ENGINE

Repairor replacementof anyWarrantedPartwill be performedat no

chargeto the owner,includingdiagnosticlabor whichleadsto the

determinationthata WarrantedPartis defective,if the diagnosticwork is

performedat an AuthorizedSearsServiceDealer.For emissionswarranty

servicecontact yournearestAuthorizedSears ServiceDealeras listed in

4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions

Warrantyclaims shall be filed in accordancewiththe provisionsof the

Sears EngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall be excludedfor

failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare not original Sears partsor because

of abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears

EngineWarrantyPolicy.Sears is not liableto coverfailuresof Warranted

Partscausedby theuse of add-on, non-original,or modifiedparts.

5. Maintenance

Any WarrantedPart whichis not scheduledfor replacementas required

maintenanceor whichis scheduledonlyfor regularinspectionto the effect

of "repairor replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedasto defectsfor the

warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich is scheduledfor replacement

as requiredmaintenanceshallbe warrantedasto defectsonly forthe

periodof time upto the firstscheduledreplacementfor that part.Any

replacementpartthat is equivalentin performanceand durabilitymay

be usedin the performanceof any maintenanceor repairs.The owneris

responsibleforthe performanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedin

6. ConsequentialCoverage

Coveragehereundershallextendto the failure of any enginecomponents

caused bythe failureof any WarrantedPartstill underwarranty.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and

Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label

Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must

display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears Brands Management

Corporation makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.

The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is

certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte-

nance Instructions. The following categories are used:

Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time.

Intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.

Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time.

For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions

Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.

The Air index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. The

lower the Air Index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.

After July 1,2000, Look For Emissions Compliance Period

On Engine Emissions Compliance Label

After July 1, 2000 certain Sears Brands Management Corporation engines will be certified to meet the United

States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the

Emissions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating

hours for which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.

For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours.

For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.

This is a generic representation of the emission label typically found on a certified engine.

IMPORTANTE: Esta unidad se envfa sin gasolina ni aceite en el motor.

Antes de comenzar o correr la ma.quinacargue el motor con gasolina y

aceite como se indica en la secci6n de operaci6n de este manual.

NOTA: Las referencias a los ladosderecho e izquierdo de la cortadora de

cesped se hacen observando la ma.quinadesde la posici6n de operaci6n.

APERTURA DE LA CAJA DE CARTON

1. Corte cada una de ias esquinas de la caja verticaimente, de la parte

superior a la base.

2. Saque todas las piezassueltas.

3. Quite el material de empaque suelto.

C61VIO SACAR LA UNIDAD DE LA CAJA

1. Eleve la unidad desde la parte posterior para separarla del material

de ia caja que quede debajo y haga rodar ia unidad fuera de ia caja.

2. Verifique cuidadosamente si en la caja queda aiguna parte suelta.

IViontaje de la manija

1. Retire el material de empaque que pudiera estar entre las manijas

superior e inferior.

A. Tire haciaarriba y hacia atras ia manija superior como se

muestra en la Figura 1.Asegurese de que ia manija inferior este

asentada firmemente en los soportes de montaje de la manija.

Asimismo, no prense los cables mientras ievanta la manija.

B. Apriete las perillas estrella que sujetan la manija superior a

la manija inferior.AsegQrese de que cada perno del carro

est_ apropiadamente asentado en la manija.

2. Localice el pasador de horquilla que se encuentra en el pasador

soldado a cada ladode la manija inferior.

A. Saque el pasador de horquilla de este orificio. Con un par de

pinzas, inserte el pasador de horquilla enel agujero dei pasador

mas cercano ai soporte. Vea ia Figura 2. Repitadei otto iado.

B. Inserte el bul6n de carro en el manual de la bolsa en el

orificio superior en el soporte de montaje de la manija.

Sujete con una tuerca pl_.sticade mariposa, que tambi_n se

incluyeen el manual de la bolsa. Vea la Figura 2. Repita del

otto lado con los restantes hardware.

NOTA: Aseguresede que el cable de transmisi6nquede alrededor de

la parte exterior y pot encima de la manija inferior de manera que no

interfiera cuando se acople la boisa colectora. La puerta del canal ha

sido dise_ada para moverla cuerda del arrancador fuera del camino de la

bolsa cuando la puerta del canal esta.abierta.

3. La guia de la cuerda, que esta.conectada a lavariiiade sosten, se

encuentrasobre el ladederechode la manija inferior.Vea la Figura3.

A. Sostenga la manija de control de la cuchilla contra la manija

superior.

B. Jale la cuerda de arranque para sacarla del motor. Suelte el

control de la cuchilla.

C. Deslice la cuerda de arranque en la guia.

D. La atadurade cables use (s) para garantizar cable (s) para

bajar de manejar.

Conexi6n de la colectora de c_sped

La cortadora fue enviadacon iatolva de abono instalada en la unidad.

Para fines de embolsado, debera,acoplar ia boisa colectora y su

adaptadoren lugar de la tolva de abono.

1. Extraiga ias tres tuercas de mariposa que sostienen ia toiva de

abono en su iugar y retirela de la unidad. Vea ia Figura 4.

2. Reemplace con el adaptador de ia boisa colectora, asegurandose

de que el labio frontal del adaptador encaje debajo del horde de la

plataforma.Asegure con las tuercas de mariposa que extrajo antes.

3. Eleve ia puerta dei canal en el adaptador de la bolsa colectora y

deslice la bolsa sobre el adaptador. Veala Figura 5.

Conexi6n de Canal de Descarga Lateral

Siga los pasos que se indican a continuaci6n parainstaiar el canal de

descarga lateral:

1. Extraiga la tolva de abono o el adaptador de la bolsa colectora de la

unidad soltando las tuercas de mariposa.

2. Acople el canal de descarga lateral y asegurecon las tres tuercas

mariposa. Vea la Figura 6.

AJUSTES

Altura de torte

La palanca de ajuste de aitura de corte se ubica por encima de la rueda

izquierda trasera. Veael recuadro de la figura 7A.

1. Tire de la palanca hacia afuera de ia cortadora.

2. Mueva la palanca haciaadelante o hacia atra.spara la altura de corte

deseada.

3. Libere la palanca hacia la plataforma de ia cortadora.

La altura de corte de ia rueda frontal se determina seleccionando una de

las seis posiciones en el montaje de cada ruedita. Para ajustar la altura de

corte frontal, consulte ia Figura 7B y reaiice Io siguiente:

1. Extraiga iatuerca de mariposadel

perno del eje. Deslice el perno del

eje y la arandela ondulada fuera

del montaje y seleccione la altura

de corte.

2. Con ia arandeia ondulada sobre

el perno del eje, reinserte los

elementos de ferreterfa en el orificio

cuadrado deseado a traves dei

montaje de la rueda y asegure

con ia tuera mariposa previamente

extrafda.

IMPORTANTE: Todas las ruedas deben set colocadas en la misma

posici6n relativa. Cuandoel terreno es agreste o irregular cambie la

palanca de ajuste de la altura a una posici6n ma.salta. De esta manera se

cuida ma.sel cesped.

Las rueditas pueden asegurarse en posici6n directamente haciaadelante

o para que giren iibremente. Vea el recuadro de la figura 7C.

1. Levantelos pasadoresdefijaci6n.

2. Col6quelos en los agujeros ma.sgrandes paratrabar las ruedas.

Coloque los pasadores en los orificios ma.speque_os para permitir

que las ruedas giren libremente.

Control de la transmisi6n

La rueda de ajuste esta.ubicada en el alojamiento de la manija de control

de transmisi6ny se utiliza para ajustar o aflojar la correa de transmisi6n.

Debera.ajustar el control de transmisi6nen caso de que:

1. La cortadora no se autopropulsara con el control de transmisi6n

engranado.

2. Las ruedas de transmisi6n de la cortadora temblaran con el control

de transmisi6nengranado.

Si ocurriera alguna de estas condiciones, gire la rueda de ajuste en el

sentido de las agujas del reloj para ajustar yen sentido contrario alas

agujas del reloj para aflojar el cable para ajustarel control de transmisi6n.

NOTA: Para algunas personas, el control de transmisi6n puede no

encontrarse en una posici6n c6moda. Puede ajustar la manija apretando

la rueda de ajuste.

El control de la cuchilla esta.unido a la manija superior de la cortadora.

Vea ia Figura 8. Presione el control de la cuchilia y aprietelo contra ia

manija superior para operar la unidad. Sueltelo para detener el motor y la

cuchilla.

El control de ia cuchiiia es un dispositivo de seguridad. Nunca intente

anular su funcionamiento.

PALANCA DE AJUSTE DE LA

ALTURA DE CORTE

La palanca de ajuste de alturade corte se ubica por encima

de la rueda izquierdatrasera. Para ajustar la altura de corte,

consulte la Secci6n Montaje.

CONTROL DE LA TRANSMISI6N

El control de transmisi6n esta.ubicado en la manija superior.

Apriete el control de la transmisi6n para engranarei sistema

de transmisi6n. Libere el control de transmisi6n para desengranar el

sistema de transmisi6n.

PALANCA DE CAMBIOS

La palanca de cambios esta.ubicada en el alojamiento de control de

transmisi6n sobre la manija superior. Estapalanca se utiliza para

seleccionar ia velocidad de avance hacia adeiante de ia cortadora.

Cuandocambie la selecci6n de velocidad, iibere el control de transmisi6n.

IMPORTANTE: Mueva la palanca de cambios s61ocuando el motor este

en marcha. Si cambia el ajuste de la palanca de cambios con el motor

apagado, su cortadora puede resultar daSada.

La Navede encendido electrico esta.ubicada en el lado izquierdo dei

panel de la manija. Se la utiliza Qnicamentepara el encendido electrico.

TOLVA DE DESCARGA LATERAL

Su cortadora se envfa como abonadora. Para descargar los recortes de

cesped por el costado, siga las instrucciones de la secci6n Montaje para

acoplar el canal de descarga lateral.

Mantenga sus manosy pies alejados del area del canal de la plataforma

de corte. Consulte la etiqueta de advertencias en la unidad.

ARRANCADOR DE RETROCESO

Elarrancadorde retrocesoesta.conectadoa iavariilade soportey se

ubicasobreel lado derechode lamanijainferior.Paraencenderla unidad

col6quesedetra.sde ia mismay tire de ia cuerdadel arrancadorde retroceso.

TAPON DE GASOLINA

Retireel tap6n de gasolina para agregar combustible ai tanque de

combustible. Use gasolina limpia, nueva, regular,sin plomo con un

octanaje mfnimode 87.

TAPON DE ACEITE/VARILLA DE MEDICI6N

DEL NIVEL DE ACEITE

Consulte ia secci6n Mantenimiento paraobtener instrucciones sobre

c6mo verificar el aceite.

ESCUDO DE RUTA

Elescudo de ruta se adjunta a la parte trasera de la ma.quinay esta.

ahf para proteger al operador de escombros que vuelan. No utilice el

cortacesped a menos que el escudo es totalmente funcionalyen su lugar.

LLENADO DE GASOLINA Y ACEITE

Aceite (se envia una botella junto con la unidad)

Primer uso

1. Saque la varilla del nivel de aceite (G).

2. Con la cortadora de cesped ubicada en suelo nivelado, vierta el

aceite bntamente pot dentro del tubo de Ilenadode aceite del motor

(H) hasta la marca de limite alto en la varilla medidora del nivel de

aceite (J). Vea la Figura 10.

3. Vuelva a colocar la varilla de Ilenadode aceite y ajQstela.

Usos posteriores

Use aceite para motor de 4 tiempos que cumpla o sobrepase los

requisitos para la clasificaci6n de servicio APi SK SG, SH, SJ o

equivalente.

Compruebe siempre ia etiqueta de servicio API en el recipiente dei aceite

para asegurarseque incluye las letras SK SG, SH, SJ o equivalente.

Temperaturasai aire libre de determinar la viscosidad dei aceite correcto

para el motor. Use la tabla para seleccionar la mejor viscosidad para el

rango de temperatura ai aire libre se espera.

** Pot encima de 80 oF (27 o C) el uso de 10W-30 puede provocar un

aumentodei consumo de petr61eo.Nivel de aceite con ma.sfrecuencia.

1. Revise el aceite con el motor parado y nivelado.

2. Quite ia tapa del dep6sito de aceite/varilla medidora del nivel de

aceite y limpiela.

3. Coioque y ajuste la varilla indicadora. Luego quitela para revisar el

nivel de aceite. Vea ia Figura 10.

4. Si el nivel de aceite esta.cerca o pot debajo de la marcade limite

bajo de la varilla medidora del nivel de aceite, quite la tapa del

dep6sito de aceite/varilia medidoradei nivei de aceite y iBnelo con

el aceite recomendado hasta la marca de limite superior. No Ilene de

ma.s.

5. Vuelva a instalar la tapa/varilla medidora del nivel de aceite.

Gasolina

No utilice gasolinas no aprobados, tales como E85. No mezcle el aceite

en ia gasolina o modificar el motor para funcionar con combustibles

aiternativos. Esto dafiara,los componentesdel motor y anular la

garantia del motor.

De combustible debe cumplir estos requisitos:

,, Limpia, fresca, la gasolina sin piomo.

• Un minimo de 87 octane/87 AKI (91 RON).

,, La gasoiina con hasta un 10% de etanol (gasohoi) o hasta el 15%

de MTBE (metil terbutil _ter) es aceptable.

Eche gasolina en un a.reabien ventiiada y con ei motor parado. Si el motor

ha estado funcionando, deje que se enfrie primero. No eche gasolina a

la ma.quinaen ei interior de un edificio donde los vapores de la gasolina

suedanestar ex uestos a al una llama o chis a.

La gasolina es aitamente inflamable y explosiva y usted puede quemars_

o iesionarse gravementeai reabastecer. Pare el motor y mantenga iejos

el calor, las chispas y las llamas. Reabastezcas61oai aire libre. Limpie

inmediatamente los derrames.

Siva a usar ei equipo de forma intermitente o s61oocasionalmente,

consulte ia secci6n de Aimacenamiento Fuera de Temporada para

obtener ma.sinformaci6nsobre el deterioro del combustible.

NOTA: El combustible puede dafiar la pintura y aigunos tipos de plastico.

Tenga cuidado de no derramar combustible cuando Ilena el tanque.

No use nunca gasolina rancia o contaminada ni mezclas de aceite y gaso-

lina. No permita que entre suciedad o agua en el tanque de combustible.

1. Quite ia tapa dei tanque de combustible.

2. Agregue combustible hasta ia parte inferior del iimite de nivel de

combustible en ei tubo del tanque. No iiene de ma.s.Limpieel

combustible derramado antes de arrancar el motor.

3. Aprieteeltap6n firmemente.

4. Antes de arrancar el motor,aBjese al menos 3 metros del

emplazamiento y la fuente de la gasolina.

AsegQresede que ninguna persona aparte dei operador permanezca

cerca de ia cortadora mientras arranca el motor u opera la misma.

Nunca encienda el motor en espacios cerrados o en una zona con poca

ventilaci6n. El escape del motor contiene mon6xido de carbono, un gas

inodoro y ietai. Mantenga ias manos, los pies, el cabello y la ropa suelta

alejados de las partes m6viles del motor y de la cortadora.

PARA ENCENDER EL MOTOR

1. Coi6quese detra.sde la podadora, apriete ia manija de control de la

cuchilla y sostengala contra la manija superior.Vea la Figura 11.

2. Este cortacesped tiene dos sistemas iniciales separados, electricos

y retroceso.

Arrancador el_ctrico: Gire la liave de encendido a ia derecha

para arrancarel motor. Sueite la ilave apenas arranque el motor.

Arrancador de retroceso: Tome la manijadel arrancadory

saque la cuerda lentamentehastaque el motoralcance ei comienzo

del ciclo de compresi6n(la cuerda tirara,un poco ma.sfuerte en este

punto). Dejeque la cuerdase enrolle lentamente.Tire de lacuerda

con ungolpe ra.pidoy continuode todo ei brazo. Mantengafirme

la manija del arrancador,dejeque la cuerda se vuelvaa enrollar

lentamente.

De retracci6n ra.pidadel cord6n de arranque (soborno) tirara,de mano y

el brazo hacia el motor ma.sra.pidode Io que puede dejar ir. Las fracturas

de huesos,fracturas, contusiones o esguinces podria resultar.

PARA DETENER EL MOTOR

1. Suelte la manija de control de la cuchilla para detener el motor y la

cuchilla.

Espere a que la cuchilla se haya detenido por completo antes de hacer

cualquier trabajo en la cortadora o de retirar el colector de cesped.

USO DE LA CORTADORA DE CESPED

Aseguresedeque ei cesped esta.librede piedras,palos, cablesu otros

objetos que pudiesendafiar la cortadorao el motor.Dichos objetos pueden

set arrojadosaccidentalmente pot la cortadora en cualquier direcci6ny

_rovocarlesionespersonalesgravesai operadory a otras personas.

AI operar una cortadora de cesped es posible que objetos extrafios sean

arrojados a los ojos, Io cual puede dafiarlos gravemente. Utilice siempre

galas de seguridad durante la operaci6n de la cortadora de cesped o

mientras la ajusta o repara.

1. Unavez que el motorest_funcionando,aprieteel controlde

transmisi6ncontrala manijasuperiorpara propulsarla podadora.

Libereel controldetransmisi6npara desengranarel sistemade

transmisi6n.

2. Usarlapalancadecambiosparaseleccionarla velocidaddeavancede

lacortadoradecesped- 1eslavelocidadm_sbaja,6 eselm&sr&pido.

Cuandolaselecci6ndecambiodevelocidad,suelteel controlde la

unidad.

IMPORTANTE:Moverla palancade cambioss61ocuandoel motor

est,.funcionando.Cambiode lapalancade cambiosde configuraci6n

conel motorapagadopuedendaSarla m_.quina.

USO COMO ABONADORA

Para abonar ei cesped, quite ei colector de cesped o el canal de descarga

lateral de ia ma.quina,y acople la tolva de abono. Paraun abono eficiente,

no corte cesped humedo. Si el cesped ha crecido ma.sde 10,2cm. (4

pulg.) no se recomienda el uso de la podadora como abonadora. En ese

caso, use ei colector de cesped para embolsar los recortes.

USO DEL COLECTOR DE CE_SPED

Puedeutilizar el colector de cesped para recoger dichos recortes mientras

opera la podadora.

1. Acople el colector de cesped siguiendo las instrucciones de la

secci6n de Montaje. Los recortesde cesped son recolectados en la

bolsade forma automaticaa medida que pasa ia cortadora.

2. Opere ia cortadora hasta que ia bolsacolectora este iiena.

3. Detengaei motor pot completo soltando la manija de control de la

cuchiiia. Compruebe que ia unidad se hayadetenido por completo.

4. Mientras sostenga la boisa colectora de pasto pot medio de la

manija trasera y la manija inferior, levante la bolsa colectora para

sacarla dei adaptador.La puerta del canal movera,la cuerda fuera

del camino de la bolsa.

5. Continue sosteniendo ia manija inferior,eleve ia parte posterior de

la bolsa colectora, y liberan el manija inferior sobre un recepta.culo

apropiado. La boisa colectora se abrira,y los recortes de cesped se

dispersara.n.AI volver a colocar la bolsa decesped, asegurese de

que la parte superior de la bolsa se apoye sobre el sosten del cable

entre las manijas.

Si golpea un objeto extrafio, detenga ei motor. Retire el cable de ia

bujia, inspeccione detenidamentela cortadora para vet que no tenga

dafios, y repare el dafio antes de volver a encender y operar. El exceso

de vibraci6n de la cortadora durante la operaci6n es una indicaci6n de

dafio. Se debe inspeccionar y reparar la unidad Io antes posible.

Comprobar el aceite del motor

Comprobar el nivel de aceite antes de cada operaci6n. Aseg_resede que

el nivei de aceite se mantiene.

1. Revise el aceite con ei motor parade y nivelado.

2. Quite ia tapa del dep6sito de aceite/varilla medidora del nivel de

aceite y limpiela.

3. Coloque y ajuste la varilla indicadora. Luego quitela para revisar el

nivel de aceite.

4. Si el nivel de aceite esta.cerca o pot debajo de la marcade limite

bajo de la varilla medidora del nivel de aceite, quite la tapa del

al recipiente inclinandoel motor hacia el tube de Ilenadodel aceite.

4. Con ei motor en una posici6n nivelada, Ilene hasta ia marca de

limite alto en la varilla medidora del nivel de aceite con el aceite

recomendado.

5. Vueiva a instaiar bien la tapa/varilla medidora del nivel de aceite.

Limpie el motor

Diariamenteo antes de cada use, limpie el cesped, la grasa o los

residues acumulados del motor. Mantenga limpios el varillaje, los

resortes y los controles. Mantenga ei a.reaque rodea al silenciador y

detra.sdei mismo iibrede cualquier residue combustible.

El mantenimientodel motor en condiciones limpias permite el

movimiento de aire airededor del mismo.

Las partes dei motor se deben mantener limpias para reducir

el riesgo de sobrecalentamiento y combusti6n de los residues

acumulados.

No use agua para limpiar ias piezas dei motor. Elagua puede contaminar

el sistema de combustible. Use un cepillo o un trapo seco.

LUBRICACION

Control de la cuchilla

Lubriquecon aceite ligero los puntos de pivote del control de la cuchilla al

menos una vez cada estaci6n. Estecontrole debe funcionar libremente en

ambas direcciones. Vea la Figura 15.

Ruedas y rueditas

Lubriqueias ruedas y rueditas una vez pot temporada con aceite iigero

(o aceite para motor). Sin embargo, si las ruedas se quitan pot cualquier

raz6n, debe lubricar la superficie del perno del eje y la superficie interna

de la rueda con aceite iigero. Vea la Figura 15.

Adaptador de colector de pasto

Lubriqueel resorte de torsi6n y ei punto de pivote en cada extremo de

la puerta del adaptador de colector de pasto pot io menosuna vez pot

temporada con aceite ligero para evitar que se oxide. Vea la Figura 16.

Transmisi6n

La transmisi6n es prelubricada y sellada en la fa.bricay no requiere

lubricaci6n.

LIMPIEZA DE LA PLATAFORMA

Debelimpiar la parte inferior de la plataforma de la cortadora de cesped

una vez una temporada para prevenir la acumulaci6n de recortes de

cesped u otros desechos. Siga los pasosque aparecen debajo para

reaiizar esta tarea.

1. Desconecteel cable de la bujia. Drene la gasolina de lacortadora

o coloque un trozo de pla.sticodebajo del tap6n de Ilenado del

combustible.

2. incline la cortadora de cesped de modo que quede apoyada sobre

al alojamiento, mantenga el silenciador de costado hacia abajo.

Sostenga firmemente la cortadora.

Nunca incline ia cortadora de cesped ma.sde 900en ninguna direcci6n

y no deje la unidad inclinada. Se puede filtrar aceite dentro de la parte

superior del motor y causar problemas de arranque.

3. Raspey iimpie ia parte inferior de la plataforma mediante el uso de

una herramienta adecuada. No la rode con agua.

IMPORTANTE: No utilice una lavadora a presi6n o manguera de jardin

para limpiar su unidad. Pueden producir daSosa los rodamientos o al

motor. El uso de agua acortara,la vida Qtilde la ma.quinay reducira,su

capacidad de servicio.

4. Vuelva a colocar ia cortadora de cesped sobre sus ruedas en

el suelo. Si puso un pla.sticodebajo del tap6n de Ilenado de

combustible aseguresede sacarlo en este momento.

CAIVIBIO DE LA ALETA TRASERA

Para cambiar la aleta trasera, proceda de la siguiente manera:

1. Para quitar la tapa trasera, levante la puerta trasera, quite el

tornillo, y la tapa de prensa en a arnbos lados para quitar del

agujero. Vet la Figura 16.

2. Quite el tornillo y la tapa del agujero de enfrente y sustituya por la

nueva tapa en la orden de enfrente y la rnanera del retiro.

AJUSTE DEL CABLE DE LA PALANCA DE

CAiVIBIOS

Puede set necesario reaiizar un ajuste peri6dico del cable de cambios

de seis velocidades debido al desgaste normal del cable. Elajuste es

necesario si las seis velocidades no funcionan bien. La mensula ajustable

del cable se iocaliza sobre el lado izquierdo de la cortadora de cesped

junto al motor. Vea la Figura 18.

1. Pongaen marcha el motor y coloque la palancade cambios en la

posici6n de sexta velocidad.

2. Detenga ei motor y desconecte el cable de la bujia y con@telo a

tierra contra el motor.

3. Afloje la tuerca hexagonal que sujeta la mensula ajustable del cable.

Vea ia Figura 18.

4. Empuje hacia atra.sla mensulaajustable del cable.

5. Ajustelatuerca hexagonal.

CUIDADO DE LA CUCHILLA

sostener la cuchilla.

Inspeccione peri6dicamente el adaptador de la cuchiiia en busca de

rajaduras, especialmente cuando golpee un objeto extra_o. Realice los

reemplazos que resulten necesarios. Siga los pasos que aparecen debajo

para reaiizar el mantenimiento de la cuchilla.

1. Desconecte el capuch6n del cable de la bujia. Gire la cortadora

de cesped sobre ei costado y compruebe que el filtro de aire y el

carburador queden mirando haciaarriba.

2. Saque el perno y el soporte de campana de ia cuchiiia que sostienen

la cuchilla y el adaptador de la misma al cigQe_aidel motor. Vea la

Figura 18.

3. Saque la cuchilla y el adaptador del cigQe_ai.

NOTA: Quitando estos articulos, la arandela tambien pueden iiberarse

de el cigQefial.Este seguro para hacer la nota de la orientaci6n de este

articulo para nuevasesi6n.

4. Saque ia cuchilia del adaptador para comprobar el equilibrio.

Balancee la cuchilla sobre un destornilladorde eje redondo para

inspeccionarla. Saque metal dei iado pesado hasta que quede bien

equilibrada. Cuando afile la cuchilla, siga el a.ngulooriginal de la

muela como guia. Afile cada horde de corte pot igual para mantener

el balance de la cuchilla.

Lubrique el cigQehaidei motor y ia superficie interna del adaptador

de ia cuchilla conaceite iigero. Desliceel adaptadorde la cuchilla

sobre el cigQefialdel motor. Instale ia cuchiiia en ei adaptador

con el lado marcado "Bottom" (inferior) (o con el numero de parte)

hacia ei piso cuando ia cortadora de cesped esta.en posici6n

de funcionamiento.AsegQreseque la cuchilla quede aiineaday

asentada en las bridas del adaptador.

6. Coloque ei soporte de campanade la cuchilla en ia misma. Aiinee

las muescas del soporte de campanade la cuchilla con los orificios

peque_os de la cuchilla.

7. Vuelva a colocar el pemo hexagonal y ajQstelosegun los siguientes

valores de torsi6n: 450 Ib-pulgcomo minimo, 600 Ib-pulg como

ma.ximo.

Para garantizar ia operaci6n segura de la cortadora de cesped, revise

peri6dicamente el perno de la cuchilla para determinarsi esta.bien

ajustado.

CUIDADO DE LA CORREA

NOTA: Para cambiar la correa de paseo de la cortadora de cesped es

necesario extraer varios componentes. Solicite a un centro autorizado de

servicio Sears que realice el reemplazo de la correa.

CAIVIBIO DE LA BATERiA f

Las bateriascontienen_.cidosulfOricoque puedecausarquema-

duras.No pongaencortocircuitoni mufflelas bateriasde ninguna

manera.Nocoloquelasbateriassobrefuegodado que pueden

explotaro emitir materialest6xicos.

1. Afloje las perillas en estrellaque sujetan las manijas inferior y

superior y con cuidado doble la manija superior hacia la manija

inferior tai come se muestra en la Figura 19.

2. Retire los dos tornillos que sujetan ia cubierta de ia bateria ai

alojamiento de la bateria y col6quelos al costado. Vea la Figura 19.

3. Abra ia cubierta de ia bateria, extraiga los conductores positive

y negative de la bateria, saque la bateria y coloque una nueva.

Conecte el conductor positiveai lade positive del paquete de bateria,

luego conecte el lade negative.

NOTA: La bateria que tiene puede diferir ligeramente de la que se

muestra en la Figura 19. Consulte la lista de piezas.

IMPORTANTE: Cuando cambie el paquete de bateria en ei panel de

la manija, el paquete de bateria debe colocarse con el terminal positive

hacia el lade izquierdo y ei terminal negative hacia el lade derecho dei

panel (el terminal positive estfi mils cerca de la Ilave de contacto). Vea

la Figura 20. El cambio incorrecto del paquete de bateria causa daSos

graves.

4. Vueiva a instalar ia cubierta dei alojamiento de ia bateria y fijela con

los dos tornillos que sac6 antes, asegurfindose de colocar a presi6n

el conducto de alambre a la izquierda en su lugar en el alojamiento.

5. Doble las manijas hacia arriba y apriete la perillas en estrella.

Noquite el paquetede bateriasdel alojamientodel arrancador

el_ctricopor ningunaraz6nque no seael reemplazo.

Carga de la bateria

Labateriacontienefluido corrosivoy materialt6xico; sedebe

manipularcon cuidadoy mantenera los ni_osalejados.No perfore,

desensamble,muffleo prendafuegoa la bateria.Durantela carga

o descargase podrianemitirgasesexplosivos.Utilicelaen un _.rea

bienventilada,lejosde fuentesde ignici6n.

NOTA: La clavija de conexi6nespecialmente dise_ada del cargador

Qnicamenteencaja en la caja de las baterias.

1. Enchufe el cargador de ia bateria dentro del orificio en la parte

inferior del alojamiento de la bateria. Vea la Figura 21.

2. Inserte el enchufe del cargador de baterias en un tomacorriente

residenciai comQnde 120voitios. Cargue ia bateria de 8 a 10 horas

antes de usar ia unidad per primera vez. Si no io hace se puede

reducir ia duraci6n de ia bateria. No cargue pot milsde 12 horas,

La bateria Qnicamentenecesitarfi cargarse enel ajuste iniciai y luego

de periodos prolongadossin uso.

3. Despues de cargar,primero desconecte el enchufe del

tomacorriente,luego desconecte el conductor del cargador de la

bateria.

Cambio del fusible

El circuito del arrancador electrico y la bateria esta.nprotegidos pot un

fusible de 40 amperes. Si ei fusible se quema, el arrancador electrico no

funcionar& Si ia unidad no se enciende con ei arrancador electrico, siga

los siguientes pasos para verificarel fusible que esta.en el alojamiento de

la bateria:

1. Abra ia cubierta de ia bateria segQnse muestra en Cambio de

bateria. Vea ia Figura 19.

2. Retire el fusible del enchufe e inspeccione tal como se muestra

en ia Figura 22. Siesta. quemado, reemplace por un fusible de

autom6viles esta.ndarde 40 amperes.

3. Coloque con cuidado los cables dentro del alojamiento,cierre la tapa

de la bateria y doble la manija superior nuevamenteen su lugar.

Nunca almacene la cortadora de cesped con combustible en el tanque

en un espacio cerrado o en a.reascon poca ventilaci6n,donde los

gases dei combustible puedan alcanzar el fuego, chispas o una luz

pilotocomo ia que tienen algunos homos, calentadores de agua,

secadores de ropa o aigOnotto dispositivo a gas.

PREPARACION DE LA CORTADORA DE

CO'SPED

Limpie y iubrique la cortadora como se describe en las instrucciones

de lubricaci6n.

• No utilice una lavadora a presi6n ni una manguerade jardfn para

limpiar su unidad.

Cubra la cuchilla de la cortadora con grasa parachasis para impedir

la oxidaci6n.

• Refierasea la PREPARACIONDEL MOTOR para instrucciones de

almacenaje de motor correctas.

• Almacene la unidad en una zona limpia y seca. No la almacene

cerca de materiales corrosivos como pot ejemplo fertilizantes.

Cuando almacene cuaiquier tipo de equipo motorizadoen un gaip6n

de dep6sito met_.iicoo con poca ventilaci6n, tenga especial cuidado

de realizarle un tratamiento antioxidanteal equipo. Use aceite ligero o

silicona para recubrir ei equipo, especialmente los cables y partes m6viles

de su cortadora antes de aimacenarla.

La baterfa debe guardarse con carga completa. El aimacenamiento

prolongado de una baterfa descargada reducira,la vida Otily la capacidad
