VERY IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS - PLEASE READ
To get the best use from your Bosch dishwasher, you must do four very important things:
1.KEEP THIS MANUAL!
Don't throw it away!
2.READ THIS MANUAL!
Even if you've used other dishwashers in the past. this manual has the information you will need to safely and properly use the dishwasher you NOW have.
Besides. it won't take that long to read it. and it could save you a lot of trouble!
3.This manual covers many different models of Bosch dishwashers.
Since different models have different features. you will need to know which model you have. Open your dishwasher door and find the Model and Serial Number Label on the right edge of the door. Figure A will show you where to look and what the label looks like. On the label you will see a large-print number that begins with "SH". That's the model number of your Bosch dishwasher. WRITE THE FIRST SIX POSITIONS OF THAT NUMBER ON THE INSIDE FRONT COVER OF THIS MANUAL.
4. Turn to the Model Features Chart on page 6 of this manual. Find and mark your model number on the top row of the chart. This will enable you to quickly identify your dishwasher's features as they are explained in this manual.
BOSCH DISHWASHER FEATURES DESCRIPTION
NOTE: Not every Bosch dishwasher model has all of the following features. Check the Models Features Chart to find out which features your Bosch dishwasher has.
AVS TM Noise Reduction System: A two-pump motor system. the Suspension Motor TM. triple insulation. and SoundSeaF _ (on some models) make Bosch Dishwashers the quietest in North America.
SensotronicTM: Checks water condition and decides whether a second fresh water fill is necessary. On all dishwasher models covered in this manual.
Clean Light Indicator: Stays illuminated until the door is opened or the unit is turned off. letting you know that clean dishes have not been emptied.
Condensation Drying: A high temperature final rinse. a low temperature stainless steel tub. and the sheeting action of a Rinse Agent result in drying that is hygienic. energy efficient. and economical.
Cycle Completion Signal: An optional beeper lets you know when the cycle is complete.
Delay Start: Available on some models. delays the dishwasher's start for up to 19 hours.
Digital Countdown Display: Lets you know when the current cycle will be complete.
Exceptionally Low Water Usage: As little as 2.5 gallons in the Delicate/Economy cycle.
Flip Tines: Racks having fold-down tines accomodate large items.
Flow Control: Available on some models. distributes water by either the upper. lower. or both spray arms as determined by the wash cycle. reducing energy and water consumption.
Flow-Through HeaterTM: Heats water to a temperature of up to 161°R On all dishwasher models covered in this manual.
Height-Adjustable Upper Rack: Available on some models. upper rack adjustment allows the upper rack to fit items 10" tall. or the lower rack to fit items 14" tall.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire. electric shock. and/or personal injury when operating the dishwasher. follow basic safety precautions. including the following:
- Bosch dishwashers are provided with two manuals; one Installation Instruction Manual. and one Use and Care Manual. Read and understand all instructions before using the dishwasher.
- Use the dishwasher only for its intended function.
- Use only detergents or wetting agents recommended for use in a dishwasher. and keep them out of the reach of childen.
- When loading items to be washed: a. Locate sharp items so that they are not likely to damage the door seal and. b. Load knives and other sharp utensils with HANDLES UP to reduce the risk of cut-type injuries.
- Do not wash plastic items unless marked "dishwasher safe" or the equivalent. For plastic items not so marked. check the manufacturer's recommendations.
- Do not operate your dishwasher unless all enclosure panels are in place.
- Do not tamper with controls.
- Do not abuse. sit on. or stand on the door or dish racks of the dishwasher.
- To reduce risk d injury. do not allow children to play in or on the dishwasher.
- Under certain conditions. hydrogen gas may be produced in a hot water system that has not been used for two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas is explosive. If the hot water system has not been used for such a period. before using the dishwasher turn on all hot water faucets and let the water flow from each for several minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen gas. As the gas is flammable. do not smoke or use an open flame during this time.
- Remove the door to the washing compartment when removing an old dishwasher from service or discarding.
MATERIALS
Important: Before you wash anything in the dishwasher, check the information in this section. Some materials are not dishwasher safe and should be hand- washed; others require special loading. Contact the material's manufacturer if you are unsure about a material's dishwasher suitability.
Usually Safe
Aluminum: Colored anodized aluminum may fade over time. Minerals in your water may cause the aluminum to darken or spot. This can usually be removed by using a soap-filled steel wool pad.
China, Crystal, Stoneware: Some hand-painted peices may discolor, fade, or spot. Hand-wash these pieces. Position fragile glassware so that it will not topple over or contact other pieces during the wash cycle.
Glass: Milk glass may yellow.
Non-Stick Coatings: Apply a light coating of vegetable oil to non-stick surfaces after drying.
Plastics: Ensure the piece is dishwasher safe.
Stainless Steel, Sterling Silver, and Silver Plate: Place these pieces so that they do not contact dissimiliar metals.
Not Recommended
Acrylic: Crazing my occur.
Adhesive-Joined Pieces: Adhesives that join materials such as plastic, wood, bone, steel copper, tin, etc. may loosen.
Bone-Handled Utensils: Handles may separate.
Iron: iron will rust. Hand-wash and dry immediately.
Non-Dishware Items: Your Bosch dishwasher is intended for use in cleaning ONLY standard household dishware.
Pewter, Brass, Bronze: Pewter will tarnish. Hand-wash and dry immediately.
Tin: Tin will rust. Hand-wash and dry immediately.
Wood: Wooden bowls, wooden utensils, and wood-handled utensils can crack, warp, and lose their finish.

Figure 1 identifies the components of your dishwasher. Familiarize yoursetf with the various parts of your dishwasher before you attempt to wash the first load of dishes.

WASHING DISHES IN YOUR BOSCH DISHWASHER
There are basically 6 steps to washing dishes in your Bosch dishwasher. They are:
- Dishware Preparation
- Loading Your Dishwasher
- Adding Dishwasher Detergent and Rinse Aid
- Starting Your Dishwasher
- Drying your Dishes
- Untoading Your Dishwasher
1. Dishware Preparation
Rinsing your dishes is not necessary, but do remove large food particles, bones, seeds, toothpicks, and excessive grease. Items with bumed-on or hard, stuck-on material may require pre-soaking and hand-scouring.
Separate dishes that are not dishwasher safe. Check the Materials section on pages 12 and 13 of this manual if you have questions about an item's dishwasher suitability.
2. Loading Your Dishwasher
Loading your dishwasher properly witl resutt inthoroughly cleaned dishes. Toproperty toad your dishwasher. you need to be familiar with:

A. General Guidelines
Load the dishwasher so that water can circulate freely and reach every part of every item. Place items so that nothing protrudes from the bottoms of the racks. Place pots. pans. cups. bowls. and glasses upside-down in the racks as shown in Figure 2. Check the Materials section on pages 12 and 13 of this manual ifyou have questions about an item's dishwasher suitability. Do not allow delicate or heirloom items to contact other items. Separate items of dissimilar metals. Do not place objects such as paper products. plastic bags. or packaging materials into your dishwasher!
B. Loading the Upper Rack
Glasses, cups, ptates, bowts, and smatl pots may be loaded in many different positions. Figure 3 shows a typical mixed load in the upper rack. Figure 4 shows the top rack load pattern for 10 place settings with the knife rack. and Figure 5 shows load pattern for 12 ptace settings.
Depending on the model dishwasher you have. the upper rack may have features and accessories that witt add to its loading versatility. These features and accessones inctude height adjustments and fold-down flip tines and cup shetves. Check with the Model Features Chart on page 6 in this manual to find out which features or accessories your dishwasher has.
The upper rack of many models of Bosch dishwashers is adjustable in one of two ways: 1) the Standard Upper RackAdjust ment. or 2) the RackMatic TM Adjustment. Look to the Model Features Chart on page 6 in this manual to verify if and which feature your dishwasher has before you attempt the adjustment.
Using the Standard Upper Rack Adjustment
- Remove the empty upper rack by pulling it out of the dishwasher to the point that it can be lifted upward. as shown in Figure 6.
- Pull the rack outward and up until the rollers are completely free of the roller guides.
- Re-insert the rack with the other set of rollers on the roller guides. as shown in Figure 7.
Using the RackMatic TM Adjustment
To lower the upper rack:
- Pull the upper rack out of the dishwasher until it stops rolling.
- Grasp the rack as shown in Figure 8.
- Press the RackMatic TM handles inward. as shown in Figure 9, and let the rack drop gently while supporting it with your hands. To raise the upper rack:
- Pull the upper rack out of the dishwasher until it stops roiling.
- You do not need to press the RackMatic TM handles to raise the rack. Grasp the upper rack by the upper edge and gently pull it upward. as shown in Figure 10. until the RackMatic TM handles lock the rack into position.
- Before you push the upper rack back into the dishwasher. ensure that the rack height is the same on both sides. Otherwise. the dishwasher door wilt not close and the upper spray arm wilt not connect to the water circuit.
C. Loading the Lower Rack
Depending on the modet dishwasher you have. the tower rack may have features and accessories that witl add to its toading versatility. These features and accesories inctude fold-down flip tines and various silverware baskets. Check with the Model Features Chart on page 6 in this manuat to find out which features and accessories your dishwasher has.
Place large bowts. pots. and pans upside down in the lower rack. If your dishwasher has lower rack flip tines. fold them down to accommodate large utensits such as serving spoons and large knives. Figure 11 shows the toad pattern for 10 place settings. and Figure 12 shows the toad pattern for 12 place settings.
D. Accomodating Extra Tall Items
If an item to be loaded into the tower rack interferes with the upper spray arm or isblocked by the upper rack. simply remove the upper rack and install the Extra Talt Item Spnnkler.
Remove the Upper Rack
The same procedure is used for removing the Standard and RackMatic TM upper racks.
- Putt the empty upper rack out of the dishwasher to the point that it can be tilted upward.
- Putl the rack outward and up until the rolters are completely free of the roller guides.
- Stide the rolter guides back into the dishwasher tub.
Install the Sprinkler
- Insert the Sprinkler into the upper rack spray outtet at the back of the dishwasher tub as shown in Figure 13. and turn the Sprinkler clockwise.
- Place your extra tall item(s) in the tower rack as in Figure 14.
- Setect a wash cyle and start the dish washer.
Note: When the cycle is complete. remove the Sprinkler by turning it counter-clockwise until it comes toose from the upper rack spray outlet. Do this before you reinstall the upper rack. Otherwise, your dishwasher coutd be damaged.
Reinstall the Upper Rack
- Tittthe upper rack upwards and position the upper rack roIters onto the rotler guides.
- Continue pushing the upper rack until the rollers are on the guide.
- Push the upper rack into the dish washer tub.
E. Loading the Silverware Baskets
All Bosch dishwashers have one of two types of silverware baskets for the lower rack: 1) the Standard Silverware Basket. or 2) the Flexible Silverware Basket. You can find more information on the Flexible Silverware Basket in the Accessories Section of this manual.
Both baskets have tops that can be folded up to accomodate large or oddly-shaped items. However. your silverware will receive a more thorough cleaning if you toad the silverware baskets with the tops down and use a load pattern similar to the one sug gested by Figure 15.
3. Adding Dishwasher Detergent and Rinse Aid
To get the very best resutts from your Bosch dishwasher. you need to know about:

A. General Dispenser Information
Your Bosch dishwasher is equipped with one of two types of Detergent and Rinse Aid Dispensers: 1)the Standard Dispenser. which you must fill while the dishwasher door is fully open. or 2) the Premium Dispenser. which you can fill while the dishwasher door is either fully open or from a more comfortable posture while the dishwasher door is half-open. Check with the Model Features Chart on page 6 in this manual to find out which dispenser your dishwasher has.
Regardless of which dispenser is on your dishwasher. it will be located on the inside of the dishwasher door. as shown in Figure 16. The detergent chamber of each dis )enser has lines that measure dishwashing detergent to 15 milliliters (ml) and 25 ml. as shown in Figure 17.45 mt of detergent will completely fill the detergent chamber.
B. Detergents and Rinse Aids
For thoroughly clean dishes. use the correct type and amount of dishwashing detergent. Use only detergents specifically designed for automatic dishwashers. Do not use hand dishwashing products. as they may cause excessive suds and possibly damage your Bosch dishwasher. Do not use )owder detergents that contain a drying additive. Important: Too much detergent in soft water may cause etching in glassware. A rinse aid provides the best drying results. diminishes water spotting. and rinses the internal parts of the dishwasher. Always use a rinse aid. and use only liquid rinse aid in your Bosch dishwasher.
C. The Standard Dispenser Filling With Detergent
1. If the detergent dispenser cover is closed. open it by pressing the blue retease tab into the dispenser as shown by arrowA in Figure 18. Note: Pushing down on the release tab will not open the cover
2. Using the measunng tines in the detergent chamber as a guide. fill the detergent chamber with the amount of detergent recommended in Table 1.
3. Close the detergent dispenser cover by sliding the cover in the direction of the arrow on the cover. as shown in Figure 19. and firmly pressing down on it. as shown by arrowA in Figure 19. untit it snaps shut.
Filling With Rinse Aid
1. Open the rinse aid dispenser by pressing the star on the cover with your index finger white lifting the tab with your thumb. as shown in Figure 20.
2. Add tiquid rinse aid to the dispenser. as shown in Figure 21. until the Ievel indicator (Figure 21A) is dark.
3. Close the rinse aid dispenser cover by returning it to its closed position and pressing it firmly until snaps shut.
4. Refill the rinse aid dispenser when the level indicator shows a silver background with black lines as shown in Figure 21B.
Note: Some Bosch dishwasher models have an additional Refill RinseAid indicator light that glows when the rinse aid dis 3enser is empty. Check the Model Fea tures Chart on page 6 in this manual to see if your dishwasher has this feature. When this light comes on. refill the rinse aid dispenser until the level indicator turns dark. and shut the dishwasher door. The light wilt go out in a few minutes after the door is shut.
Standard Rinse Aid Dispenser Regula tor
The Standard RinseAid Dispenser comes with a regulator that controls the amount of rinse aid dispensed. If your dishes are spotted or streaked after after washing. see the Special Features section in this manuat to adjust the amount of rinse aid dispensed.
D. The Premium Dispenser
Filling with Detergent
1. If the detergent dispenser cover is closed. open it by pressing the blue release tab into the dispenser as shown in Figure 22. The cover will slide open to the left. Note: Pushing down on the release tab will not open the cover.
2. With the dishwasher door fully open, fill the detergent chamber with the amount of detergent recommended in Tabte 1, using the measurement lines in the chamber as a guide.
OR
3. With the dishwasher door half-open. ress the btue button on the right side of the dispenser. as shown in Figure 23. The dispenser cover and chamber will swing upward. Fill the detergent chamber with the amount of detergent recommended inTable 1. using the measurement lines in the chamber as a guide.
4. To ctose the cover. stide the cover in the direction of the arrow on the cover. as shown in Figure 24 arrow 1. and press down firmly as shown in Figure 24 arrow 2. until the release tab catches.
Filling With Rinse Aid
1. Open the Rinse Aid Dispenser cover by pressing the release button. as shown in Figure 25. and lifting the cover.
2. With the dishwasher door fully open. add liquid rinse aid to the dispenser. as shown in Figure 26A. until the level indicator is dark.
OR
3. With the dishwasher door half open. putt the filling trough upward. as shown in Figure B. until it snaps into position. Add liquid rinse aid to the dispenser. as shown in Figure 26B. until the level indicator (Figure 26. C) is dark.
4. Close the dispenser cover by returning it to its closed position and pressing it firmly until it snaps shut.
5. Refill the rinse aid dispenser when the level indicator shows a silver background with black lines. as shown in Figure 21B, page 24, or when the Refill Rinse Aid indicator light glows. When this light glows. refill the rinse aid dispenser until the level indicator is dark. and shut the dishwasher door. The light will go out in a few minutes.
Note: The amount of rinse aid dispensed by the Premium Dispenser can be regulated for the best results. If your dishes are spotted or streaked after after washing. see the Special Features section in this manual to adjust the amount of rinse aid dispensed.
4. Starting Your Dishwasher
After you've prepared your dishes. loaded your dishwasher. and added dishwashing detergent and rinse aid. you may start your dishwasher.
To start your dishwasher. you need to know how to:

A. Select the Proper Wash Cycle
Dishwashing needs will vary from household to household. Here are some general guidelines that will help you select the proper wash cycle for the best cleaning. Remember. not every model of Bosch dishwasher will have every available wash cycle. so you should took to the Model Features Chart on page 6 in this manual to find out which cycles your model has.
The Regular Wash cycle witt thoroughly clean most normal. everyday loads having loosely attached foods. More heavily soiled dishware. and pots and pans with baked on. dried-on. or stuck-on foods will require Scrub Wash or Power Scrub Plus. or they may require soaking and hand-scouring. For more lightly soiled dishware try Quick Wash. A small load with normal soiling can be kept in your dishwasher until you have enough dishes for a fatt load by selecting the Rinse and Hold Cycle. A small toad can also be 3laced in the top rack and given complete washing by the Top Rack Only cycle. For delicate or heirloom dishware and silver ware. or other special pieces. select Delicate Wash. referring to the Materials section on pages 12 and 13 of this manual.

B. Operate the Controls
Though there are many models of Bosch dishwashers. there are only two basic types. based on the location of the control buttons:
1) Front Controt. with buttons on the front of the dishwasher door. as shown in Figure 27. and
2) Top Control. with the buttons on the top edge of the dishwasher door. as shown in Figure 28.
Front Control
- Close the dishwasher door and make sure it is securely shut.
- Press the On/Off button.
- Press the button for the wash cycte desired.
- The dishwasher witt start and automatically continue operating untit the end of the selected cycle.
Top Control
- Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose the control buttons.
- Press the On/Off button.
- Press the button for wash cycle desired.
- Close the dishwasher door and make sure it is securely shut.
- The dishwasher wilt start and automati cally continue operating until the end of the selected cycle.
WARNING: YOU COULD BE SERI OUSLY SCALDED IFYOU OPEN TH E DISHWASHER DOOR QUICKLY DURING A WASH OR RINSE CYCLE. ALWAYS WAIT AT LEAST 10 SECON DS (OR UNTIL WATER NOISES STOP) BEFORE FULLY OPENING THE DISHWASHER DOOR.
Once you start the dishwasher, leave the dishwasher door shut until it finishes the dishwasher door shut until it finishes the cycte. At the end of the cycle the dishwasher will stop. Depending on the model of dishwasher you have
- the"Ctean" light wil tiltumninate,
- the LED display witt show"O",
- the dishwasher will beep
- the 'Sanitized" tight will illuminate
When the "Sanitized" tight illuminates, it means that the wash cycle has met very strict requirements of time and temperature for certification as 'Sanitized" by the National Sanitation Foundation. For more information on this certification, turn the section titled "The NSF Symbol" on page 7 in this manual.
Interrupting, Changing, and Cancelling Cycles
As a safety feature, the dishwasher witt automatically turn itsetf off whenever the door is opened.
Interrupting a Cycle
Front Control
- Press the On/Off button to stop operation.
- Wait at least 10 seconds (or until water noises stop) before opening the door.
- To resume the cycle. close the dishwasher door and push the On/Off button
Interrupting a Cycle
Top Control
WARNING: YOU COULD BE SERIOUSLY SCALDED IFYOU OPEN THE DISHWASHER DOOR QUICKLY DURING AWASH OR RINSE CYCLE. ALWAYS WAIT AT LEAST 10 SECONDS (OR UNTIL WATER NOISES STOP) BEFORE FULLY OPENING THE DISHWASHER DOOR.
1. Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose the control buttons.
2. To resume the cycle. simply close the dishwasher door.
Cancelling a Cycle Front Control
1. Press and hotd for three seconds the
2. You may now begin a new cycle by following the instructions in the "Operate the Controls" section of this manual.
Top Control
WARNING: YOU COULD BE SERIOUSLY SCALDED IFYOU OPEN THE DISHWASHER DOOR QUICKLY DURING AWASH OR RINSE CYCLE. ALWAYS WAIT AT LEAST 10 SECONDS (OR UNTIL WATER NOISES STOP) BEFORE FULLY OPENING THE DISHWASHER DOOR.
- Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose the control buttons.
- Press and hold for three seconds the two buttons indicated by the two dots labelled "Cancel Drain".
- Close the dishwasher door.
- You may now begin a new cycle by following the instructions in the "Operate the Controls" section of this manual.
5. Drying Your Dishes
Condensation Drying
After your dishwasher has washed and rinsed your dishes. a period of condensation drying wilt follow. The combination of a high final rinse temperature. the tub's cool stainless steel interior. and the sheeting action of a rinse agent results in effective and efficient drying. Depending upon the model dishwasher you have. after about 12 minutes of drying the LED display witt show "O". r the "Clean" light wilt be illuminated. You may then unload your dishwasher.
Some Bosch dishwasher models have an Additional Drying Heat Option that speeds up the condensation drying process. This feature is explained in the Special Features section of this manual. Check with the Model Features Chart in this manual to find out if
6. Unloading Your Dishwasher
Dishware tends to be hot immediately after washing and drying. To coot your dishware more quickly. open the dishwasher door slightly for a few minutes before unloading. Always unload the lower rack first and unload the upper rack last. This witt prevent any residual water on the upper rack from dripping onto the dishes in the lower rack. as shown in Figure 30.
The silverware basket(s) of your Bosch dishwasher can be easily removed for unloading.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Most Bosch dishwashers are equipped with special features that allow you to tailor your dishwasher to your specific dishwashing requirements. Not every model of Bosch dishwashers wilt have all of these features. so you should check with the Model Features Chart on page 6 in this manual to find out which special features your dishwasher model has.
Rinse Aid Dispenser
Standard Dispenser
The Standard RinseAid Dispenser Regulator (see Figure 31 ) leaves our factory set at 3.5. Follow these guidelines to adjust to adjust the amount of rinse aid dispensed:
- Open the Rinse Aid Dispenser cover. as shown in Figure 21. page 24.
- If your dishes are streaked after wash ing. turn the regulator to a lower number.
- If your dishes are spotted after washing. turn the regulator to a higher number.
Premium Dispenser
- Press and hold the right-most of the two buttons labelled "Cancel Drain". as shown in Figure 32. then press and hold the "On/Off button. The LED display wilt show a number between 0 and 6.
- If your dishes are streaked after wash ing. press the right-most "Cancel Drain" button until the display shows a lower number.
- If your dishes are spotted after washing. press the right-most "Cancel Drain" button until the display shows a higher number.
Delay Start
This feature allows you to delay the start of the selected wash cycle for up tp 19 hours.
Front Control
- Press the On/Off Button
- Press the Delay Start button. Continue pressing the Delay Start button until the LED display shows the number of hours of delay you desire.
- Press the button for the desired wash cycle. You can change the cycle at any time during the delay.
Top Control
- Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose the control buttons.
- Press the On/Off Button
- Press the Delay Start button. Continue pressing the Delay Start button until the LED displays shows the number of hours of delay you desire.
- Press the button for the desired wash cycle. You can change the cycle at any time during the delay.
Top Rack Only Cycle
This cycte allows you to save energy. water. and detergent by washing loads small enough to fitl onty the upper rack. Note: The Top Rack Only cycle does not reduce wash time.
To use the Top Rack Only Cycle:
- Load the upper rack. Figure 33 shows a typical mixed toad placed correctly in the upper rack.
- Press the On/Off button.
- Press the button for the desired wash cycle.
- Press the Top Rack Only button.
OptiMISERTM
This feature, used in coejunctoe with the other wash cycles, reduces wash time by about 30%. NOTE: OptiMISER TM is NOT used with the Quick Wash or Rinse and Hold cycles.
To useOptiMISERTM:
- Press the On/Off button.
- Press the desired cycle selection button.
Cycle Completion Signal
This feature is a tone that sounds when when your Bosch dishwasher finishes washing and drying your dishes. and is available ONLY on Top Control models. You can either disable the tone. or you can set it at one of three volumes (dishwashers with this feature leave our factory with the tone set on the middle volume).
Changing the Cycle Completion Signal Volume
- Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose the control buttons.
- Press and hold down the right-most of the two buttons labelled "Cancel Drain". as shown in Figure 34. then press and hotd the On/Off button. When the light on the "Cancel Drain" button you are pressing illuminates. and the tone begins to sound. release both buttons.
- Press the "Cancel Drain" button you previously pressed until the tone is at the desired volume. or until it is silent. If your dishwasher has an LED display it wilt also show a "1". "2". or "3" for the volume levels and a 0 when the tone is disabled.
- Press the On/Off Button.
- Close the dishwasher door. The Cycle Completion Signal is now set. and you may wash your dishes as usual.
Additional Drying Heat
With this special feature you can raise the temperature of the rinse water. which will " . wtl o' '_' .. result in better condensation drying.
Front Control
1. Press and hold the left-most of the two buttons labelled "Cancel Drain", as shown in Figure 35, then press and hold the On/Off button. When the LED display shows a "0" or a "1", release both buttons. The light above the left-most "Cancel Drain" button will begin to flash.
2. Press the left-most "Cancel Drain" button until the LED display shows a "1", indicating Figure 35Illus. 35 that the Additionat Drying Heat is enabled.
3. If you wish to disable the Additional Drying Heat, press the left-most "Cancel Drain" button again. The LED display wilt show a "0", indicating that the Additional Drying Heat is disabled.
4. Press the On/Off button. The light above the left-most "Cancel Drain" button wilt stop flashing. You may now wash dishes as usual.
3. Press the OptiMISER TM button.
Top Control Note:
Only Top Control Models with an LED display have theAdditional Drying Heat.
1. Open the dishwasher door far enough to expose the control buttons.

RACK ACCESSORIES
Not every model of Bosch dishwasher wilt have every rack accessory. Check the Model Features Chart in this manual to find oat which rack
Flip Tines
Ftip Tines fotd down to make loading the racks easier in some instances. Before you attempt to fotd down a set of tines. check with the Model Features Chart on page 6 in this manuat to to ensure that the rack is equipped with Flip Tines.
To operate the Flip Tines. simply grasp the tines and genfly fold them downward.
Cup Shelves
Grasp the Cup Shelves. as shown in Figure 37. and fold them down. Place cups upside down on the cap shelves.
Silverware Baskets
There are two types of Silverware baskets available for Bosch dishwash- ers; 1) the Standard Silverware Basket, and 2) the Flexible Silverware Basket.
The Standard Silverware Basket
This basket fits in the front-middle of the lower rack, as shown in Figure 38.
The Flexible Silverware Basket
This basket is designed for maximum versatility. The basket splits along its length. resulting in two halves that may be placed in a variety of positions in the lower rack. greatly increasing the lower rack's loading versatility.
To split the Flexible Silverware Basket:
1. Grasp the basket as shown in Figure 39. and slide the two halves in opposite directions. as shown in Figure
2. Pull the two halves apart. as shown in Figure
Some suggestions for placing the two halves in the lower rack are shown in
Knife Rack
The Knife Rack, shown in Figure 42. may be used for a variety of purposes. but it is primarily designed to hold fine silverware and cutlery.
The Knife Rack may be removed by gently pulling it from the two clips that hold it to the rack.
Rack Attachment
When installed on the back of the tower rack. as shown in Figure 43. the Rack Attachment serves a variety of uses such as holding cups. large knives. spatulas. or other large utensils.
Install the Rack Attachment by gently levering it into position along the back of the lower rack until it is held in place as shown in Figure 43.
CARE AND CLEANING
General Maintenance Certain areas of your Bosch dishwasher require occasional maintenance. The maintenance tasks are easy to do and wilt ensure continued superior performance from your Bosch dishwasher.
These tasks are:
- Winterizing Your Bosch Dishwasher
- Check/Clean the Large Object Trap
- Check/Clean the Spray Arms
- Clean the Stainless Steel Inner Door and Tub
- Clean the Exterior Door Panel
- Clean the Door Gasket
WARNING: TO AVOID MOLD GROWTH AND/OR FLOOR DAMAGE. DO NOT ALLOW STANDING WATER FROM SPILLS AND SPLASHOUT TO REMAIN AROUND AND/OR UNDER YOUR BOSCH DISHWASHER.
Check/Clean the Large Object Trap
Your Bosch dishwasher has a filter system made up of a Large Object Trap/Cylinder FitterAssembty. as shown in Figure 45. and a Fine Filter on the ftoor of the dishwasher tub. as shown in Figure 46. Some modets have an additional Micro Filter under the Fine Filter. as shown in Figure 47. Check with the Modet Features Chart on page 6 of this manual to see if your model has the additional Micro Fitter. During normal use the filter system is self-cleaning. For your convenience the filter system is accessible and and easily cleaned.
The Large Object Trap prevents targe objects such as bones. gtass. toothpicks and straws from entering the pump system and causing damage or noise. Frequenfiy inspect the Large Object Trap and clean the filter system whenever you find foreign objects.
To Remove the Large Object Trap
Grasp the ring handle. as shown in Figure 44. Turn the ring handle counter-clockwise 1/4 turn and lift out the Large Object Trap/ Micro Filter Assembly. as shown in Figure 45.
WARNING: DO NOT REACH INTO THE LARGE OBJECT TRAP, AS IT MAY CONTAIN SHARP OBJECTS.
2. Carefully examine the Large Object Trap.
3. If you find debris in the Large Object Trap. turn it upside-down and gently tap it on a surface such as a countertop to dislodge and remove the debris. Flush the Large Object Trap clean by holding it under running water.
4. You may also remove the other filter system components. as shown in Figures 46 and 47. and flush them clean by holding them under running water.
To Reinstall the Large Object Trap:
1. If you have removed the other filter system components. return them to their 31aces. Micro Filter first (if your model has it). Fine Filter second. and the Large Object Trap/Cylinder Fitter Assembty last.
2. Firmly press the Large Object Trap/Fine Filter Assembly into position.
3. Turn the ring handle clockwise 1/4 turn until it is locked. The arrow on the ring handle and the arrow on the Fine Filter should point to each other. as shown in the
Check/Clean the Spray Arms
Occasionally check the spray arms to ensure that the spray nozzles are clear and unobstructed. If the nozztes require cleaning. the spray arms are easy to remove and reinstall.
To remove the lower spray arm:
- Pull the empty lower rack out of the dishwasher tub.
- Grasp the lower spray arm. as shown in Figure 48. and gentty pull the lower spray arm upward. as shown in Figure 49. If the spray nozzles need cleaning. flush them under running water.
To reinstall the lower spray arm:
- Gentty press the lower spray arm back into its installed position.
To remove the upper spray arm:
- Remove the empty upper rack from the dishwasher. The procedure for removing the upper rack is on page 18 of this manual.
- Turn the rack upside-down. The upper spray arm is hetd in position by a locking nut. as shown in Figure 50A. Turn the locking nut counter-clockwise 1/8 turn and remove it. as shown in Figure 50B. to release the spray arm.
- Gently remove the spray arm. as shown in Figure 51. If the spray nozzles need cleaning. flush them under running water.
To reinstall the upper spray arm:
- Gentty press the upper spray arm back into its installed position.
- Return the locking nut to its installed )osition and turn it 1/8 turn clockwise.
- Return the upper rack to the upper rack rotter guides.
Check/Clean the Stainless Steel Inner Door and Tub
Ctean the outer edges of the inside door panet regularly to remove food particles that cottect there from normal toading. If spots begin to appear on the stainless steel tub or inner door. make sure the rinse agent reservoir is full.
Clean the Exterior Door Panel
Colored Doors:
Use only a soft cloth that is lightty dampened with soapy water. Do not use paper towels or abrasive cloths.
Stainless Steel doors:
Use a soft cloth with a non-abrasive cteaner (preferably a liquid spray) made for stainless steel. For the best resutts. apply the stainless steet cteaner to the ctoth. then wipe the surface. Do not use metal scouring 3ads to clean the stainless steel surface. as they can scratch the surface and Ieave their own metal particles that can rust.
Clean the Door Gasket
Regularly clean the door gasket with a damp ctoth to remove food particles and other debris.
