For one year from the date of purchase, when this
air conditioner is operated and maintained for
normal room cooling according to the instructions in
this owner's manual, Sears will repair this air
conditioner, free of charge, if defective in material or
workmanship.

For five years from the date of purchase, when this
air conditioner is operated and maintained for
normal room cooling according to the instructions in
this owner's manual, Sears will repair the sealed
refrigeration system (consisting of refrigerant,
connecting tubing, and compressor), free of charge,
if defective in material or workmanship.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
The safety instructions below will tell you how to use your room air conditioner to avoid harm to yourself or
damage to your ROOM AIR CONDITIONER.
FOR YOUR SAFETY
Do not store or use gasoline or other flammable
vapors and liquids in the vicinity of this or any other
appliance. Read product labels for flammability and
other warnings.

To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, or injury
to persons when using your air conditioner, follow
basic precautions, including the following:
• Be sure the electrical service is adequate for the
model you have chosen.
• If the air conditioner is to be installed in a window,
you will probably want to clean both sides of the
glass first. If the window is a triple-track type with a
screen panel included, you may want to remove
the screen completely before installation.
• Be sure the air conditioner has been securely and
correctly installed according to the separate
installation instructions provided with this manual.
Save this manual and installation instructions for
possible future use in removing or reinstalling this
unit.
• Use gloves when handling the air conditioner.
Be careful to avoid cuts from sharp metal fins on
front and rear coils.

The complete electrical rating of your new room air
conditioner is stated on the serial plate. Refer to the
rating when checking the electrical requirements.
• Be sure the air conditioner is properly grounded.
To minimize shock and fire hazards, proper
grounding is important. The power cord is
equipped with a three-prong grounding plug for
protection against shock hazards.
• Your air conditioner must be plugged into in a
properly grounded wall receptacle. If the wall
receptacle you intend to use is not adequately
grounded or protected by a time delay fuse or
circuit breaker, have a qualified electrician install
the proper receptacle.
• Do not run air conditioner with a protective
covering. This could result in mechanical damage
within the air conditioner.
• Do not use an extension cord or an adapter
plug.

ENERGY SAVING IDEAS
• The capacity of the room air conditioner must fit
the room size for efficient and satisfactory
operation.
• install the room air conditioner on the shady side
of your home. A window that faces north is best
because it is shaded most of the day.
• Do not block air conditioner flow inside with blinds,
curtains, or furniture, or outside with shrubs,
enclosures, or other buildings.
• Close the floor and wall registers and the fireplace
damper so cool air does not escape up the
chimney or into the duct work.
• Keep blinds and drapes in other windows closed
during the sunniest part of the day.
• Clean the air filter as recommended in the
MAINTENANCE section of this manual.
• Proper insulation and weather stripping in your
home will help keep warm air out and cool air in.
• External house shading with trees, plants or
awnings will help reduce the air conditioner's work
load.
• Operate heat producing appliances such as
ranges, washers, dryers, and dishwashers during
the coolest part of the day.

A 115-volt 60 Hz, AC only, 15A fused and
properly grounded electrical supply is required.
A time delay fuse or time delay circuit breaker
is recommended. Use a dedicated circuit,
serving only this appliance.
DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD.
RECOMMENDED GROUNDING METHOD
For your personal safety, this appliance must
be grounded. This appliance has a power
supply cord with a 3-prong grounding plug. To
minimize possible shock hazard, the cord must
be plugged into a mating grounding type wall
receptacle and grounded in accordance with
the National Electrical Code (ANSt/NFPA 70)
latest edition and all local codes and
ordinances. If a mating wall receptacle is not
available, it is the personal responsibility and
obligation of the customer to have a properly
grounded 3-prong wall receptacle installed by a
qualified electrician.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
Your air conditioner will install into standard double hung
windows with actual clear opening widths of 27.6 to 41.5
inches (700mm to 1054mm) (FIG. 1).
Lower sash must open sufficiently to allow a clear
vertical opening of 15.1 inches (383mm). Side
louvers and the rear of the air conditioner must have
clear air space to allow enough airflow through the
condenser for heat removal. The rear of the unit
must be outdoors, not inside a building or garage.

ELECTRICAL SERVICE
Check your available electrical service. The power
supply available must be the same as that shown
on the unit nameplate (found on right side of cabinet).
All models are equipped with a 3-prong service plug
to provide proper service and safe positive
grounding. Do not change plug in any way. Do not
use an adapter plug. If your present wall outlet does
not match your plug, call a qualified electrician to
make the necessary corrections.
SAVE CARTON and this OWNER'S MANUAL for
future reference. The carton is the best way to store
unit during winter or when not in use.

To avoid risk of personal injury, property damage,
or product damage due to the weight of this
device and sharp edges that may be exposed:
•Air conditioners covered inthis manual pose an
excessiveweight hazard. Two or more people
are needed to move and install the unit.
To prevent injury or strain, use proper lifting and
carrying techniques when moving unit.
• Carefully inspect locationwhere air conditioner
will be installed. Be sure itwill support the
weight of the unit over an extended period of
time.

INSTALLATION
To avoid the possibiity of personal injury, unplug
powerto unit before installing or servicing.
Pick a location which will allow you to blow the cold
air into the area you want. Windows used for
installation must be strong enough to support the
weight of the air conditioner. Good installation with
special attention to the proper position of the unit
will lessen the chance that service will be needed.
When cooling more than one room, installation
location is very important. To cool your rooms, cold
air must be blown from the air conditioner in a
straight path.
HOW TO INSTALL
If the air conditioner is blocked by a storm
window frame, see step 7 on page 8 before
beginning to install.
_lcut the FOAM STRIP (ITEM G) to fit the underside
of the window sash. Open the window, peel off the FOAM
STRIP backing and attach the FOAM STRIP as shown in
FIG. 3.

I_ Install support bracket on window. See FIG. 5.
Install leveling bolt up through bottom side of support
bracket. Select leveling bolt(ITEM B or C) based upon
angle of outer window sill. For a more angled sill, select
longer bolt(ITEM B). The bolt should be positioned based
upon the width and angle of window sill. Select either 1st,
2nd or 3rd hole position of support bracket.
Position bracket on sill on the center line of window
(See FIG. 5).
Fasten bracket loosely to sill with screws (ITEM D)
provided.
Adjust leveling bolt so that the air conditioner will be
installed with a very slight tilt (about !/4") downward
toward the outside for proper drainage. Tighten bracket
screws.

During the following step, hold unit firmly until
window sash is lowered to top channel behind
curtain frames. Personal injury or property
damage may result if unit falls from window.

• Carefully lift the air conditioner and slide it into the open
window. Be carefW not to hurt waist in this operation.
• Use the two hand grips on bottom sides of unit to
lift unit.
NOTE: Hold unit firmly and push outward along the
bracket untiI you feel the unit come to rest securely in
place.
• Lower top window sash all the way down so that sash
sits firmly in top channeI of unit and expandable curtain
frames.

D SECURE THE CURTAIN FRAMES
Expand the curtain frames and secure them using 4
screws (ITEM E) as shown in FIG. 9.
When curtain frame opens or closes, you may feel a slight
resistance. This is normal.
D FOAM SEAL AND WINDOW LOCK
• Cut the foam seaI (ITEM F) to the window width.
Stuff the foam seal between the glass and the window to
prevent air and insects from getting into the room, as
shown in FIG. 9.
• Install the L bracket to prevent window from being raised
which may result in unit falling.
• Attach the side bracket (iTEM J) in the inner window sill
with a screw (iTEM E), as shown in FIG. 10, after
removing the existing screw at right bottom side on
cabinet.
NOTE: If window sash has a metal surface, use sheet
metal screws instead of the provided wood screws.
Obtain sheet metal screws at local hardware store.

Failure to securely install support bracket may

HIF AIR CONDITIONER IS BLOCKED BY
STORM WINDOW FRAME
• If storm window presents interference, fasten a 2"
wide wood strip to the inner window sill across the full
width of the sill. The wood strip should be thick
enough to raise the height of the window sill so that
the unit can be installed without interference from the
the storm window frame. See FIG. 11.
Top of wood strip should be approximately 3/4"
higher than the storm window frame to help
condensation to drain properly to the outside.
• Install a second wood strip (approximately 6" long by
11/2" wide and same thickness as first strip) in the
center of the outer sill flush against the back of the
inner sill.
•Air conditioners covered inthis manual pose an
excessive weight hazard. Two or more people
are needed to move and install the unit.
To prevent injury or strain, use proper lifting and
carrying techniques when moving unit.
• When handlingthe air conditioner, becarefulto
avoid cutsfrom sharp metal fins on front and
rear coils.

REMOVAL FROM WINDOW
• Turn off and unplug the air conditioner.
• Unscrew the side screws that you installed in Step 5.
• Close the curtain frame and remove foam seal and L
bracket from the windows.
• Keep a firm grip on the air conditioner and raise the
sash.
• Lift the air conditioner from the window.
• Remove the foam strip from between the window.
• Remove the support bracket from window frame.
• Place unit and mounting hardware in air conditioner
shipping carton, and store in clean, dry pIace.

HOW AND WHY
Your room air conditioner provides the following
functions to make hot weather living more
comfortable:
• Cools and circulates room air.
• Lowers humidity by removing excess moisture.
• Filters out summertime dust, dirt, and some
airborne impurities.
The air conditioner performs these functions by
drawing room air through a filter which traps dust
and dirt particles. The air then passes over a
cooling coil which refrigerates the air and removes
excess moisture. The same air is then returned to
the room- cooler, drier, and cleaner. Moisture
removed from the room air is carried to the outside
and evaporated.
Your air conditioner is designed to be easy to
operate and to provide plenty of cooling power.

Aside from the regular fan motor and compressor
sounds coming from your air conditioner, you will
once in a while hear a pinging sound. This is the
result of moisture being picked up from the air in the
room and thrown against the air conditioner's fan.
This is normal and should not be cause for concern.
Also, do not be alarmed if you hear a slight hissing
or gurgling sound coming from your air conditioner
after it is off. These are normal coolant noises.
CAPACITY AND RUNNING TIME
Proper unit size is important in deciding the desired
comfort for the area you want to cool. An
undersized unit will not have the capability to cool,
leaving the area uncomfortably warm. The proper
size is determined by the number of square feet in
the area to be cooled, indoor and outdoor
temperature and humidity.
Whenever the heat or humidity load is above normal
the air conditioner must run longer and more often
to keep the desired temperature you have selected,
Under heavy heat load conditions the air conditioner
may need to run constantly to keep the temperature
you want.
At times using the MED FAN setting to circulate the
room air may make it comfortable even though the
air is not being cooled. This will decrease your cost
of use.
Compressor

pitched hum or pulsating
noise that cycles on and off.

and make noise
because of poor wall
or window construction.
Fan
You may hear air
movement from
the fan.
You may hear droplets of water hitting
the condenser causing a pinging or
clicking sound.

USING THE AIR CONDITIONER

To begin operating the air conditioner after
installation, follow these steps:
(The air discharge grille is closed when the air
conditioner is off)
1. Plug in the air conditioner. (To prevent electrical
hazards, do not use an extension cord or an
adapter plug.)
2. Set the TEMP Control to the coolest setting.
3. Set the MODE Control at the highest COOL level.
4. Adjust the louvers for comfortable air flow.
5. Once the room has cooled, adjust the TEMP and
MODE Control to the setting you find most
comfortable.
NOTE : If the air conditioner is turned off, wait 3
minutes before restarting. This allows pressure
inside the compressor to equalize. Failure to wait 3
minutes before restarting may cause inefficient
operation.
If you move the TEMP Control to a warmer, then
immediately back to a cooler setting, the unit will
shut off. Wait 3 minutes before restarting.

TEMPERATURE/TIME CONTROL
• The thermostat monitors room temperature to
maintain the desired temperature. The
thermostat can be set between 60°F~86°F
(16°C~30°C).
• This button also controls the timer setting in
TIMER mode. The timer can be set up to 24
hours.

• Pressthis buttonforDehumidifyFunction.

TEMP/TIME
AIR PURIFIER
• Press the AIR PURIFIER button.
Operation will start when the button is pressed and
stop when the button is pressed again.
• You can select the fan speed in three settings:
High, Low or Medium.
Each time the button is pressed, the fan speed mode
is shifted.
• if you press only the AiR PURIFIER button, only air
purifying operates without cooling.
FAN SPEED
For increased power while cooling, select a higher
fan speed.

shut-off.
• You can control your timer setting upand down with

• tf unit is off, use Timer to set number of hours before unit
starts.
• You can control your timer setting upand down with
TEMP/TtME button.
• Press the sleep mode button to set the time you want the unit to turn off automatically.
• Press this button to increase the hours until shut off from 1through 7 hours.
• For your sleeping comfort, once Time is set, the Temperature setting wilt raise 2F after 30 rain., and 2°F after another 30 min.
The panel door can be opened or
closed using the remote control.

REMOTE CONTROL
NOTE: The Remote Control will not operate properly if strong light shines on the sensor window of the Air
Conditioner or if there are obstacles between the Remote Control and the Air Conditioner.
Every time you push button, you will hear a beep from the Air Conditioner.
POWER
• To turn the airconditioner ON, push the button. To turn the airconditioner OFF, push the button again.
This button takes priority over any other button.
When you first turn it on, the air conditioner is on the High cool mode and the Temp. at 72°F
AIR PURIFIER
• Press the Air Purifier button.
Operation will start when the button is pressed and stop when the button is pressed again.
• You can select the fan speed in three settings: High, Low or Medium.
Each time the button is pressed, the fan speed mode is shifted.
• Ifyou press only the Air Purifier button, only air purifying operates without cooling.
TEMPERATURE/TIME CONTROL
• Thetherrqostat monitors room temperatureto maintain the desiredtemperature.
Thethermostat can beset between 60°F~86°F(16°C~30°C)

HOW TO INSERT BATTERIES INTO REMOTE CONTROL
1. Remove the cover from the back of the remote control.
• Open the cover according to the arrow direction on the
cover.
2. Insert two batteries.
• Be sure that the (+) and (-) directions are correct.
• Be sure that both batteries are new.
3. Re-attach the cover.
• Do not use rechargeable batteries.
Such batteries differ from standard dry cells in shape,
dimensions, and performance.
• Use thetwo screws provided to mount the remote control holder in
a convenient location.

AIR FILTER CLEANING
The Air Filter will become dirty as it removes dust
from the inside air. It should be washed at least
every 2 weeks. If the Air Filter remains full of dust,
the air flow will decrease and the cooling capacity
will be reduced, possibly damaging the unit.
• Pull the inlet grille forward, grasping both sides,
then pull out the air filter. (FIG. 17)
• Wash the Air Filter under the faucet with warm
water. Be sure to shake off all the water before
replacing the filter. (FIG. 18)

AIR CONDITIONER CLEANING
Clean the front grille and inlet grille by wiping with a
cloth dampened in a mild detergent solution.
(FIG. 19)
The cabinet may be washed with mild soap or
detergent and lukewarm water, then polished with
liquid appliance wax.
To ensure continued peak efficiency, the condenser
coils (outdoor side at the unit) should be checked
periodically and cleaned if they become clogged
with soot or dirt from the atmosphere. Brush or
vacuum exterior coils to remove debris from fins.

HOW TO REMOVE THE FRONT

• Remove the screw securing the Front Grille.
• Push the grille up from the bottom and pull the top
of the grille away from the case to lift the top tabs
out of their slots.
• Disconnect display connector.

• Attach the front grille to the cabinet by inserting
the tabs on the grille into the slots on the front of
the cabinet. Push the grille in until it snaps into
place
and secure it with 2 screws at bottom sides.

IDEAS PARA EL AHORRO DE ENERGiA
• La capacidad del aire acondicionado debe ser
adecuada para el tamaSo de la habitacion para un
funcionamiento eficiente y satisfactorio.
• Instale el aire acondicionado del lado sombreado
de su casa. Es mejor una ventana que da al norte
porque recibe sombra la mayor parte del dia.
• No bloquee el flujo de aire al interior con
persianas, cortinas o muebles, o al exterior con
arbustos, adornos u otras edificaciones.
• Cierre los registros de piso y pared y el tiro de la
chimenea para que el aire fresco no escape por la
chimenea y por la tuberia.
• Mantenga las persianas y cortinas en las dem&s
ventanas cerradas durante el periodo mas
soleado del dia.
• Limpie el filtro de aire como se recomienda en la
seccion MANTENIMIENTO en este manual.
• El aislamiento apropiado y la protecci6n
impermeabilizante en su hogar ayudar& a
mantener el aire caliente afuera y el aire fresco
dentro.
• Las sombras que producen al exterior los &rboles,
plantas, etc, ayudar&n a reducir la carga de
trabajo del aire acondicionado.
• Haga funcionar los aparatos que producen calor

REQUERIMIENTOSDEINSTALACION
Para evitar probtemas con la instalaci6n, lea
completamente ias instrucciones antes de comenzar.
Esta pubticaci6n contiene informaci6n importante para la
instalaci6n y operaci6n de su aire acondicionado. Su aire
acondicionado se instalara en unas ventanas de doble
hoja normales con aberturas de 700mm a 1054mm (27.6
a 41.5 pulgada) (FIG. ! ). La hoja inferior de la ventana
debe abnrse Io suficiente para crear una abertura vertical
de 383mm (15.1 pulgadas). No obstante, de acuerdo a
ias variaciones en el disefio del marco de la ventana se
requerira modificar la ventana para una instalaci6n
segura y apropiada. Las rejillas de ventilaci6n iaterares y
trasera del aire acondicionado deben tener espacio libre
suficiente para permitir el fiujo de aire a traves del
condensador para sacar el calor. La parte posterior debe
quedar al exterior, no dentro de un edificio o cochera.

INSTALACION
Paraevitarunap0siblelesi6npersonal,desconectelaunidad

Saque con cuidado el aire acondicionado de su caja,
revise que no tenga da5os per el embarque. Seleccione
la ubicacion que le permitira soplar el aire frio al interior
del area que desea. Las ventanas que se utilicen para
instalacion deben ser Io suficientemente fuertes para
soportar el peso del aire acondicionado. Una buena
instalacion con especial atencion al posicionamiento
apropiado de la unidad reducira los servicios necesarios.
AI enfriar mas de una habitacion, la ubicacion de la
instaIaci6n es muy importante. Para enfriar sus
habitaciones, el aire frio debe ser soplado desde el aire
acondicionado en un patente directo.
Si el aire acondicionado se btoquea por un marco de
ventana para tormentas, consulte el Paso 7 en Ia pagina
21 antes de comenzar la instatacion.
Como instalarlo
_1 Corte la TIRA DE ESPUMA (ARTiCULO G) para
ajustarse a la parte inferior del marco de la ventana. Abra
la vventana, quite Ia proteccion posterior de la tira y una
la TIRA DE ESPUMA como se muestra en la FIG. 3.

COMO Y POR QUI
Su unidad de aire acondicionado proporciona las
siguientes caracteristicas que haran m&s placentera
su vida en climas c&lidos:
• Enfria y circula aire en la habitaci6n.
• Reduce la humedad retirando el exceso.
• Filtra el polvo, suciedad e impurezas del ambiente.
El aire acondicionado realiza estas funciones
psando el aire de la habitacion a traves de un friltro
que atrapa el polvo y las particulas de suciedad. El
aire pasa entonces per un serpentin de
enfriamiento que refrigera el aire y retira el exceso
de humedad. El mismo aire se regresa a la
habitaci6n, m&s frio, m&s seco y m&s limpio. La
humedad que se retira del aire de la habitacion se
Ileva al exterior y se evapora.
Su aire acondicionado esta disefiado para operarse
con facilidad y proporcionarle gran capacidad de
enfriamiento.
SONIDOS NORMALES FIG.12
Ademas de los sonidos normales del motor del
ventilador y del compresor que salen de su aire
acondicionado, de vez en cuando podria escuchar
un sonido de golpeteo suave. Es producido per la
humedad que se recolecta del aire en la habitaci6n
y se arroja contra el ventilador del aire
acondicionado. Esto es normal y no debe ser causa
de preocupacion. Igualmente no debe alarmarse si
escucha un lugero silbido o regorjeo que sale de su
unidad al apagarla. Estos son ruidos normales del
refrigerante.

Es importante elegir un tamafio de unidad apropiado
de acuerdo con la comodidad deseada en el area
que requiere enfriar. El tamai_o apropiado se
determina per el n_mero de metros cuadrados del
&rea que desea enfriar, la temperatura interior y
exterior y la humedad.
Aunque el calor o la carga de la humedad esta
sobre Io normal el aire acondicionado debe operar
per mas tiempo y mas frecuentemente para
mantener la temperatura deseada que ha
seleccionado. Bajo condiciones de carga de calor
muy pesado el aire acondicionado puede necesitar
ser operado constantemente para mantener la
temperatura deseada.
AI tiempo que se usa el ajuste de MED FAN
(VENTILACION MEDIA) para circular al aire de la
habitacion puede realizarlo mas conformable
aunque no tenga ajustado el aire acondicionado en
el mode de enfriar el aire. Esto disminuira su costo
per el use.

CONTROL HORIZONTAL DEL FLUJO DEAIRE
La direccion del flujo de aire horizontal se ajusta
moviendo las rejillas verticales a la derecha o
izquierda con la punta de sus dedos. (FIG. 14)
UTILIZANDODELAIREACONDICIONADO
_Para minimizar el riesgo de incendio,
choque electrico, lesiones personales o dafios al usar
su aire acondicionado, lea la seccion de instrucciones
de SEGURIDAD antes de hacer funcionar este aparato.
Para comenzar el funcionamiento del aire acondicionado
despu_s de su instalaci6n, siga estos pasos:
1. Conecte el aire acondicionado. (Para prevenir
descargas no use extensiones ni adaptadores de
clavija)
2. Coloque el control de TEMP en el ajuste mas frio.
3. Coloque el control de modo MODE en el nivei mas alto
de enfriamiento COOL.
4. Ajuste las rejilIas para un flujo de aire apropiado.
5. Una vez que haya enfriado la habitacion, ajuste los
controles TEMP y MODE al nivei que sienta mas
confortabte.
NOTA: Si apaga el aire acondicionado, espere 3
minutos antes de volver a encenderlo. Esto permite
que se equilibre la presion interna del compresor.
En caso de no esperar los 3 minutos podria
provocar fallas en el funcionamiento.
Si mueve el control TEMP a mas c&lido, y luego
inmediatamente de regreso a Io mas frio, la unidad
se apagara. Espere 3 minutos antes de volver a
encederla.

LIMPIEZA DE FILTRO DE AIRE
El filtro de aire se ensucia ya que retira el polvo del
aire interior. Debe lavarse al menos cada 2
semanas. Si el filtro de aire se queda Ileno de
polvo, el flujo de aire disminuye y la capacidad de
enfriamiento se reduce, y puede dafiarse la unidad.
• Estire hacia adelante de la parrilla de entrada,
sujetando ambos lados, y tire del filtro de aire
hacia el exterior• (FIG. 17)
• Lave el filtro de aire directamente en el chorro de
agua tibia. AsegQrese de sacudir toda el agua
antes de volver a colocar el filtro. (FIG.18)

LIMPIEZADEAIREACONDICIONADO
Limpie la rejilla delantera y la rejilla de entrada con
un trapo humedecido en uan solucion de jabon
suave. Puede lavar el gabinete con un jabon suave
o detergente y agua templada, luego pulirlo con
cera liquida.
Para garantizar un optimo funcionamiento, los
serpentines de condensacion (exterior de la unidad)
deben revisarse periodicamente y limpiarlos si
estan obstruidos con suciedad de la atmosfera.
Cepille o aspire los serpentines exteriores para
retirar la acumulacion de residuos de las aletas.
PARA RETIRAR LA REJILLA
FRONTAL
• Retire el tornillo que sujeta la rejilla frontal.
• Empuje la rejilla hacia arriba desde la parte inferior
y jale por la parte superior para sacarla del
gabinete para levantar las pestafias superiores y
sacarlas de las ranuras.
• Desconecte el conector de la pantalla.
