Transmission Drive Belt
NOTE:Severalcomponentsmustbe removed,includingtransmission
steeringlinkagewhichwill haveto be readjusted,inorderto change
the tractor'stransmissiondrivebelt.ContactyourSearsParts&
ServiceRepairCenterto haveyourtransmissiondrive belt replaced.
REINSTALLING THE CUTTING DECK
Therearetwomethodsfor reinstallingthemowerdeckon thetractor.
Onemethodinvolvesrotatingthe PTObelt idlerbracketto relieve
enoughbelttensionto allowthe belt to beplacedin eitherthe PTO
pulleyor the fixed idler pulley.Becausethat methodis difficult,we
recommendusingthe secondmethodof rollingthe beltonto the PTO
pulley.
Installthecuttingdeckas follows:
1. Fromthe rightside of the tractor,slide thedeckunderthetractor
andalignthe reardeckhangerbracketswith thedecklift arms.
2. Slidethedeckforwardandplacethe deckfronthangerrodinto
the slotsof the deckfronthangerbracket.Thenslidethe deck
rearwardso that thefront hangerrodis at thefrontof the slots.
3. Usingthedecklift lever,lowerthe deck lift arms.Fromeitherside
of the tractor,pullthe supportpinin the deckrearhangerbracket
outward,align the deck lift arm hole withthe decksupportpinand
releasethe pin so that it goesthroughthedeck lift arm. Repeaton
the otherside of thetractorto securethe deck.
4. Afterfirst makingsurethe deckbeltis properlyengagedin all of
the deckpulleys,routethe deck beltforwardthroughthe center
of the frontdeckhangerrodandtowardthe PTOpulleyon the
bottomof the engine.
5. Usingthedecklift handle,raisethe deckto the positionthatgives
you the mosthorizontalrunof the belt betweenthe deckpulleys
andthe PTOpulleyon the bottomof the engine.
6. Sittinginfrontof the tractor,facingrearward,make certainthe
beltis not twisted;thenreachbeneaththe tractorto graspthe belt
and pullit towardthe PTOpulley.
NOTE:Referencesto leftand rightare fromthe front of the tractorin
the followinginstructions.

Pullthe rightsideof the beltforwardand placethe narrowV side
of the belt intothe PTOpulley.
Whileholdingthe belt andpulleytogether,rotatethe pulleyto the
Idt. Continueholdingand rotatingthe pulleyandbelt untilthe belt
isfully rolledintothe PTOpulley.SeeFigure25.
