A. This appliance hasa pilotwhich must be lightedbyhand
When lighting the pilot,follow these instructions exactly.
If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire
department.
B. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance area
for gas. Be sure to smell next to the floor because some
gas is heavier than air and will settle on the floor.
WHATTO DOIF YOUSMELL GAS:
Do nottry to lightany appliance
Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any phone
in your building.
Immediately call your gas supplier from a neighbor's
phone. Follow the gas supplier's instructions.

Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas control
knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not push in or turn
by hand, don't try to repair it, call a qualified service
technician. Force or attempted repair may result in a fire
or explosion.
Do not use this appliance if any part has been under
water. Immediately call a qualified service technician to
inspect the appliance and to replace any part of the
control system and any gas control which has been
underwater
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS

2. Remove outer door.
3. Set the thermostat to lowest setting by turning the water
temperature dial clockwise (('_) to its lowest temperature
setting (with arrow on dial) as shown.

Turn gas control knob clockwise ((_) to "OFF" position.
Knobcannot beturned from "PILOT"to"OFF" unlessknob
isdepressed slightly.DO NOTFORCE.
Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If you then
smell gas, (_ STOP! Follow "B" in the safety information
above on this label Ifyou don't smell gas, go tonext step.
Remove (or open) inner THERMOCOUPLE
door located below gas
control unit
Find pilot -follow metal tube
from gas control. The pilot
is located in front of the
burner.
if you don't smell gas, turn knob on gas control counter
clockwise (_("N) to "PILOT" position.
9. Pushthe controlknoballthe way and holddown Immediately
lightthe pilotwith a match. Continue to hold control knob in
for about (1) minute after the pilotis lit. Release knob and it
willpop back up. Pilotshould remain lit. Ifitgoesout, repeat
Steps 3through 8.
If knob does not pop up when released, stop and
immediately call your service technician or gas
supplier.
Ifthe pilot will not stay lit after several tries, depress
and turn the gas control knob clockwise (('_) to
"OFF"and call your service technicianor gas supplier.
10. Replace (or close) innerdoor. Replace outer door if door
does not cover gas control on/off knob or temperature
adjustment knob.
11. At arms length away, turn gas control knob
counterclockwise ((%) tothe full "ON" position.
WARNING: Do net use gas control knob to regulate
gas flow.
12. Atarms length away, setthethermostat to desired setting.
The mark ( ) indicative ofapproximate 120°F is preferred
starting point. If hotter water is desired, see instruction
manual and "warning" below.
13. Reptace the outer door if notreplaced in Step 10.
Hotter water increases the risk of scald
injury. Before changing temperature setting
see instruction manual.
TO TURN OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
Set the thermostat to lowest setting by turning the water
temperature dial clockwise (('_) to its lowest
temperature setting (with arrow on dial) as shown.
Turn gascontrol knobclockwise ((_) to"OFF" position.
Knob cannot beturned from "PILOT" to "OFF" unless
knobisdepressed slightly.DO NOT FORCE.
3. Replace outer door (if removed).
