INSPECT MUFFLER AND SPARK
ARRESTOR SCREEN
As the unit isused, carbon deposits
build up on the muffler and spark
arrestor screen, and must be removed
to avoid creating a firehazard or affect-
ingengineperformance.
Replacethesparkarrestorscreenif
breaksoccur.

Cleaningisrequiredevery25 hoursof
operationor annually,whichevercomes
first.

erscrews.
• Removethemufflercover(cover
snapsoffmufflerbody). Plug
• Removemufflerdiffuserandspark Boot
arrestorscreenassembly.Noticethe
orientationofthesepartsfor reassem-
bling.
, Cleanthesparkarrestorscreenwitha Spark
wirebrush.Replacescreenifbreaks Plug
are found.
• Replaceanybrokenorcrackedmuf*
flerparts. .
• Reinstalldiffuserandsparkarrestor
screenassembtywithroundholes
facing upandtowardsmufflercover.
° Reinstallmufflercoverand 2 s_rews
(7-8ft-lbs.).
REPLACE SPARK PLUG
The sparkplugshouldbereplaced
eachyeartoensuretheenginestarts
easierandrunsbetter.Ignitiontimingis
fixed and nonadjustable,
° Loosenthe3 screwsonthecylinder
cover.
Removethecylindercover.
Pulloffthesparkplugboot.
Removesparkplugfrom cylinderand
discard.
° Replacewith'ChampionRCJ7Yspark
plugandtightenwitha 3/4inchsocket
wrench(10-12ff-lbs). Sparkpluggap
shouldbe.025 in.
• Reinstallthesparkplugboot,
• Reinstallthecylindercoverand3
screws(t5-20 In-lbs).
CHAIN REPLACEMENT
CAUTION: Wearprotectivegloves
whenhandlingchain,The chainis
sharpand cancutyouevenwhenitis
notmoving.
Itisnormalfor a newchaintostretch
duringthefirst 30 minutesofoperation.
Youshouldrecheckyourchaintension
frequentlyandadjustthechaintenslon
as required.See ChainTensionsec-
tion,
• MoveOn/StopswitchtotheStop
position.
• Replacetheoldchainwhenitbe-
comeswornor damaged.
° UsaonlytheLow-Kickbackreplace-
mentchainspecifiedintherepair
partslist.Thecorrectreplacementbar
and chainisalsospecifiedonadecal
located onthechainsaw.
