Check Engine Oil
Checkoil levelbeforeeachoperation.Besureoil levelis maintained.
1. Checkthe oil withthe enginestoppedand level.
2. Removethe oil fill dipstickand wipeit clean.
3. Insertandtightendipstick.Removeitto checkthe oil level.
4. Ifthe oil levelisnearor belowthe lowerlimitmark on the dipstick,
removethe oil fillercap/dipstick,and fill withthe recommendedoil
to the upperlimitmark.Do not overfill.
5. Reinstallthe oilfill dipstick.
Change Engine Oil
Gasolineand its vaporsare extremelyflammableand explosive.
Fireor explosioncancausesevereburnsor death.
Changeengineoil after thefirst fivehoursof operation,and everyfifty
hoursoronce a seasonthereafter.
lWhen drainthe oil fromthe oil fill the fuel tank mustbe
you top
tube,
emptyor fuel canleak outand resultinafire or explosion.Toempty
the fuel tank, runthe engineuntilitstopsfrom lack of fuel.
1. Withengineoff butstill warm,disconnectthe sparkplugwireand
keepit awayfrom the sparkplug.
2. Placea suitablecontainernextto the engineto catchthe usedoil.
3. Removethe oil fill dipstickand drain theoil intothecontainerby
tippingtheenginetowardthe oil fillerneck.See Figure15.
Usedoil isa hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly.
IDonot discardwith householdwaste.Checkwithyourlocalauthori-
_tiesor SearsServiceCenterfor safedisposal/recyclingfacilities.
4. Withthe engineina levelposition,fill to the upperlimit markon
thedipstickwith the recommendedoil.
Runningthe enginewitha lowoil levelcan causeenginedamage.
5. Reinstallthe oilfill dipsticksecurely.
Clean Engine
Dailyor beforeeveryuse,cleangrass,chaffor accumulated
debrisfromengine.Keeplinkage,spring,andcontrolsclean.
Keepareaaroundand behindmufflerfreeof any combustible
debris.
Keepingenginecleanallowsairmovementaroundengine.
Engineparts shouldbe keptcleanto reducethe riskof overheat-
ingand ignitionof accumulateddebris.

LUBRICATION
Blade Control
Lubricatepivotpointson the bladecontrolat leastoncea seasonwith
light oil.This control mustoperatefreely inbothdirections.SeeFigure

Do not usewaterto cleanengine parts.Watercouldcontaminatefuel
