Carefully read and understand all of the warnings and installation instructions in this manual. Failure to
follow these instructions could lead to serious bodily injury and/or property damage. Retain these
instructions for future reference. This pump has been manufactured with your needs in mind. Properly
installed in the right application, your new Barracuda Pump will give you years of carefree performance.
DANGER
Do not pump flammable or explosive liquids such as oil, gasoline, kerosene, ethanol, etc. Do not
use in the presence of flammable or explosive vapors. Using this pump with or near flammable
liquids can cause explosion or fire, resulting in serious personal injury and/or property damage.
Always disconnect the pump from its power source before installing, inspecting, maintaining, or repairing.
Do not stand in water when the pump is connected.
Do not touch the pump while it is operating, as the pump may be HOT and can cause serious burns.
Do not disassemble the motor housing. The motor has NO repairable internal parts, and disassembling
may cause oil leakage or dangerous electrical wiring issues and will void warranty.
Never touch any electrical device, including this pump, when it is touching water, in water, or even in a
moist environment. Always unplug (disconnect the electricity) when working on or installing the unit.
RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. This pump is supplied with a grounding conductor and grounding-type
attachment plug. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, be certain that it is connected only to a properly
grounded, grounding-type receptacle.
Do not use the power cord or discharge hose to carry or handle the pump. Doing so may cause damage
to the power cord or discharge hose. Use the handle to lift the pump.
Follow all electrical and safety codes, particularly the National Electrical Code (NEC) and in the
workplace, the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).
NOTICE This unit is designed only for use on 115 volts (single phase), 60 Hz, and is equipped with
an approved 3-conductor cord and 3-prong grounded plug. DO NOT REMOVE THE GROUND PIN
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. The 3-prong plug must be directly inserted into a properly installed
and grounded 3-prong, grounding-type receptacle. Do not use this pump with a 2-prong wall outlet.
Replace the 2-prong outlet with a properly grounded 3-prong receptacle (a GFCI outlet) installed in
accordance with the National Electrical Code and local codes and ordinances. All wiring should be
performed by a qualified electrician.

For safety, the pump motor has an automatic resetting thermal protector that will automatically turn off
the pump if it becomes too hot. Overuse of this feature will damage the pump and will void the
warranty.
Once the thermal protector detects that the pump has cooled to a safe temperature, it will allow the pump
to operate normally. If the pump is plugged in, it may restart unexpectedly.
DO NOT RUN THE PUMP DRY. The pump depends on water for cooling and lubrication. Operating the
pump without water may cause the motor to overheat or cause damage to parts of the pump. It may also
shorten the life of your pump and void the warranty.
NOTICE
EXTENSION CORDS
Connect the pump DIRECTLY to a grounded, GFCI outlet. Extension cords may not deliver sufficient
voltage to the pump motor. Extension cords present a life threatening safety hazard if the insulation
becomes damaged or the connection ends fall into water.
DANGER
Keep all electrical connections away from wet and moist environments. Wet connections can cause
electrical shock resulting in personal injury.
Materials Required:
2 in. PVC fittings, 2 in. PVC pipe or 2 in. flexible hose, thread tape, PVC primer, PVC cement,
Hose Clamps, and Ball Valve (to regulate flow)
Tools Required:
Wrench, Phillips screwdriver, Hacksaw
GENERAL INFORMATION
Use this pump in a pond with a plastic liner. The pump should rest on a solid, level
bottom. Do not set pump directly on sand, dirt or mud as this can reduce performance
and/or damage the pump.
Do not handle or carry the pump by the power cord. Use the handle.
Extended usage of the pump in a partially submerged or non-submerged situation may
cause the pump to overheat due to lack of heat dissipation from the water. If this occurs,
the pump will shut itself off until the motor cools to its normal temperature. Repeated
overheating may cause damage to the pump.
The pump is not designed for application involving salt water or brine. Use with salt
water or brine will void warranty.
Estimated Assembly Time (New Installation): 60 Minutes
NOTE: Before beginning assembly of product, make sure all parts are present. Compare parts with
package contents list. If any part is missing or damaged, do not attempt to assemble the product.

Do not attempt to cut, splice or modify the power cord in any way. Doing so will void the warranty.
Do not suspend the pump by the discharge hose, pipe or power cord.
Keep the pump inlet screen clear.
The water-feature the pump is being placed into must have an underlayment laid down to prevent the
pump from being clogged with mud, debris etc.
Be sure the pump is completely submersed to prevent the pump from overheating.
If the pump is placed in the vertical position, it may pump the water level down completely exposing
the motor housing, which will cause the motor to overheat! Make sure there is enough water to
prevent this.
INSTALLATION
Note: It is important to use as few pipe fittings as possible to minimize friction loss which will lead to low
performance.
Note: This pump has a 2 in. discharge connection. This pump can also be installed in the vertical or
horizontal position to accommodate your application requirements.
1. Wrap threads of the included 2 in. barbed adapter with thread tape (sold separately). Thread the
adapter into the 2 in. discharge of the pump 1 turn past hand tight to prevent leaks.
2. Connect a 2 in. flexible hose and hose clamp (both sold separately) to the 2 in. barbed adapter. Using
a screwdriver, be sure hose clamp is tight to prevent leaks.
a. Rigid PVC pipe and fittings may be used rather than flexible pipe if desired.
3. Connect the 2 in. hose to your water feature. Ensure all connections are air tight to prevent any leaks
which could potentially hurt the performance of the pump.
4. Place the pump into the water feature or pond.
5. Plug pump into GFCI outlet and test to make sure there are no leaks and the pump is delivering the
desired performance.
Example of a horizontal installation. Your water feature may differ.

OPERATION
1. Make sure there is ample water in your application for the pump. It is recommended there should be
at least 3,000-4,000 gallons in the area you are pumping so the pump does not recycle the water too
quickly.
2. Make certain the water level covers the top of the pump. This pump is water-cooled, and for
continuous operation, water must cover the pump to prevent the motor from overheating.
3. Plug the pump into a 115-volt GFCI power outlet. The pump will start operating.
4. The motor is equipped with an automatically resetting thermal overload protector. If the motor gets too
hot, the overload protector will shut off the pump before it is damaged. When the motor has cooled
sufficiently, the overload protector will reset and the motor will restart. Overuse of this feature can
permanently damage the motor.
NOTE: If the overload protector stops the pump repeatedly, disconnect the power from the pump and
after the motor cools down, check to find the problem. Low voltage, a long undersized extension cord,
clogged impeller, blocked screen or water that is too hot can cause the motor to overheat. See trouble
shooting section.
5. If the pump is operating and suddenly no water comes out of the discharge hose, shut the pump off
immediately. The water level is probably very low or the pump is clogged.
6. If the flow rate is too high, adjust by using a double union ball valve. DO NOT restrict the intake
screen.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
This pump can run for 24 hours per day for up to 18-24 months, but its life can be extended with some
basic preventative maintenance. WARNING: Unplug the pump from the power source before all
maintenance.
EVERY 3 MONTHS Check the intake screen and impeller for clogs
The screen and impeller must be free of clogs to deliver full performance. If clogged, perform the below
steps:
1. Remove the strainer by turning it counterclockwise.
2. Unscrew the pump casing screws (Figure 1) and remove the pump casing.
3. Remove the impeller off the shaft (Figure 2) with a 17 mm socket wrench while bracing the impeller
with a flathead screwdriver.
4. Replace the impeller if damaged or worn (call 1-844-251-7445 for replacement orders).

EVERY 3 MONTHS - Check Lubricant Oil
The seals are bathed in 250 cc (8.5 fl. oz.) of oil that is safe for water and fish.
1. Make sure pump is horizontal.
2. Locate the oil port (Figure 3).
3. Using a 6 mm Allen wrench, remove the screw and rubber washer.
4. Drain a little oil from the oil port.
a. If oil appears to be milky in color, this means water is present.
b. The oil can be replaced with basic vegetable oil. See below diagrams on changing the oil.
Replacing Lubricant Oil
1. Make sure pump is horizontal.
2. Locate the oil port (Figure 3).
3. Using a 6 mm Allen wrench, remove the screw and rubber washer..
4. Drain oil from the oil port.
5. Using an oil can with 250 cc (8.5 fl. oz.) of any common vegetable oil, place the new oil in the pump
(Figure 4).
6. Tighten the screw and rubber washer back in the oil port.
WARNING: Do not overfill the oil chamber, as this can create a dangerous hydraulic pressure. Overfilling
voids the warranty.
