IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handle or knobs.
- To protect against electric shock, do not place cord, plug or appliance in water or other liquids.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return the appliance to the nearest authorized service facility for examination, repair or adjustment. Or, call the appropriate toll-free number on the cover of this manual.
- The use of an accessory not evaluated for use with this appliance may cause injuries.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over the edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
- To disconnect, turn any control to OFF (O), then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use this appliance for other than intended use.
- Keep lid on the carafe when in use.
- Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycles.
- The carafe is designed for use with this appliance. It must never be used on a range top.
- Do not set a hot carafe on a wet or cold surface.
- Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe having a loose or weakened handle.
- Do not clean carafe with cleansers, steel wool pads or other abrasive material.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

WARNING - RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK. DO NOT OPEN. The lightning symbol refers to “dangerous voltage”; the exclamation symbol refers to maintenance instructions. See below. Warning: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove the cover of the coffeemaker. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done by authorized service personnel only.
POLARIZED PLUG
- This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug is intended to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Do not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
TAMPER-RESISTANT SCREW
Warning: This appliance is equipped with a tamper-resistant screw to prevent removal of the outer cover. To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not attempt to remove the outer cover. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done only by authorized service personnel.
ELECTRICAL CORD
- A short power-supply cord (or detachable power-supply cord) is to be provided to reduce the risk resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
- Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords are available and may be used if care is exercised in their use.
- If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used,
- The marked electrical rating of the detachable power-supply cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical rating of the appliance,
- If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should be a grounding-type 3-wire cord, and
- The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped over.
Note: If the power-supply cord is damaged, it should be replaced by qualified personnel; in Latin America, by an authorized service center.
HOW TO USE
GETTING STARTED
- Wash all removable parts as instructed in CARE AND CLEANING section of this manual.
- Open one-piece cover.
- Fill the carafe to the 5-cup mark with fresh, cold water and pour into the water reservoir.
- Place empty basket-style paper filter into removable filter basket.
- Place basket into filter basket holder.
- Uncoil power cord and plug into standard electrical outlet.
- Brew water through appliance without adding coffee grounds. This removes any dust or residue that may remain in the system during the manufacturing process.
- Discard the water from the carafe and paper filter from filter basket.
- Turn off the appliance; unplug and allow appliance to cool down.
BREWING COFFEE
- Open one-piece cover.
- Pour fresh cold water up to desired level mark into water reservoir.
- Place empty basket-style paper filter into the removable filter basket.
- Insert filter basket into filter basket holder.
- Add desired amount of ground coffee. Note: Not sure how much coffee to use? Begin by using 1 level tablespoon of medium grind coffee for each cup of coffee to be brewed.
- Close lid securely.
- Place empty carafe on the “Keep Hot” carafe plate.
- Plug cord into standard electrical outlet.
- Press on/off (I/O) switch button; red light comes on and brewing begins.
- Replace the carafe on the “Keep Hot” carafe plate when not serving to keep coffee hot.
- Unplug appliance when not in use.
CARE AND CLEANING
This appliance contains no user-serviceable parts. Refer service to qualified service personnel.
CLEANING
- Be sure the unit is unplugged and cooled.
- Open the one-piece cover, remove the filter basket (lift straight up).
- Discard the paper filter from the filter basket.
- Wash the filter basket, carafe and carafe lid in the dishwasher, top-rack only, or hand-wash in warm, sudsy water.
- To clean inside the one-piece cover, open the cover and allow it to rest in the open position. Wipe surfaces with a damp cloth.
CLEANING WITH VINEGAR
Mineral deposits left by hard water can clog your coffeemaker. Cleaning is recommended once a month.
- Pour white vinegar into the carafe to the 2-cup mark. Add cold water to the white vinegar to the 5-cup mark.
- Pour the mixture into the water reservoir.
- Place a paper filter in the filter basket and close the cover.
- Set empty carafe on the “Keep Hot” carafe plate.
- Turn on coffeemaker and let half the cleaning solution brew into carafe (until water level goes down to around 3). Turn off coffeemaker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes to soften the deposits.
- Turn on coffeemaker and brew remaining cleaning solution into carafe.
- Turn off coffeemaker, empty carafe and discard soiled filter.
- Fill the carafe to the 5-cup mark with fresh, cold water and pour into the water reservoir. Replace empty carafe, then turn on coffeemaker for a complete brew cycle to flush out remaining cleaning solution. You may wish to repeat this step to eliminate any remaining vinegar smell/taste.
- Wash the brew basket and carafe as instructed in CLEANING
