#1 What is the difference between the 2016 and 2017 models?

There are a few key differences.
1. The Power Supply is now external and attached to the power cord. This means less heat inside the TV and very easy to replace PS if it ever goes out.
2. The HDR now has Super bit sampling, so the HDR looks more lifelike with more accurate colors and contrast.
3. The Android apps are now faster response whether using buttons or voice.
One of Sony's phone staff also said the 43" model now has an IPS panel, but I would not necessarily count on it. Sometimes the phone staff are wrong. At times there's a lottery in the TV industry on whether you get an IPS or VA panel too. That was the case on some previous models of LG TVs, even though they make their own panels. Sony sources their panels elsewhere, so they are subject to what's available.

#2 Can I run this TV without connecting it to the internet?

My setup: Cable Box via HDMI 1. When the TV is set to HDMI 1, I get the full function as a TV, using the cable box remote. I like having the Internet connectivity to keep current with the firmware update process though.

#3 Does this upscale resolution?

My cable TV comes through at 1080i and I can upscale it to 4k; although, I really don't see much difference between the 2 videos. Also, I'm not sure if it is my TiVo issue, my cable tv issue or my Sony tv issue, when I set the video to 4k to upscale and fast forward through commercials, the video defaults back to 1080i, it's easy to change back with Tivo, I just click the up arrow to get to the resolution I want to use, but it is annoying that it won't hold the resolution. Sony has always been my go to tv, I feel it has the best picture on the market; however, it does take a bit of work to get the picture perfected to your taste, out of the box the picture stinks, but that's my humble opinion.
