Honeywell HL12CESWW Questions and Answers

#1 The hose gets hot?

Yes, the hose used to vent air to the outside gets a bit
warm. I wouldn't say hot but warm to the touch. I read in
the manual that process is normal as the coils produce
cold air and the heated air needs to be vented to the
outside.

#2 Why is it necessary to put the hose out the window? I sleep
with blacked out windows and want to keep the windows
closed.

I like it nice and dark too to sleep. I installed the vent hose
on the very corner of the window and wrapped the curtain
around the house. Blocks out the light. The vent hose will
blow out heat as the condenser is changing the refrigerant
from a liquid to a gas. If the hose is not vented outside, the
unit will be contradicting itself by blowing cool and hot air
into the room at the same time.

#3 What do I need in order to vent to patio door or side opening
window?

We have tall windows in our house, which are taller than the
adjustable A/C window plate allows for. What I did was
take a piece of 15mm baltic birch plywood and made my
own panel that is tall enough to fill in the side opening in
our windows. I imagine you will need to make something
similar for a patio window. Use something, like plywood,
that will be thick enough to isolate against the heat outside.
Something thin and flimsy will work, but will let too much
heat in.

#4 Do you have to have a window kit? or can you just empty a tank
when it fills?

The window kit and condensation tank is two different
things. The unit comes with a window kit to install the
exhaust hose. I found it much better to elevate the unit onto
a sturdy table and run the hose into a bucket. Then just
empty the bucket every now and again. The manufacturer
suggests putting a shallow pan underneath the drain
plug but I found that process annoying. The bucket and
hose idea is much better.
