31. Use the button to choose the setting you want – the setting shows in the bottom right corner of the display:

blank = normal strength(the default setting)

= stronger

= even stronger ,

If you want to change these settings, you should do so before making coffee.

A QUICK CUP

32. If you want a quick cup of coffee before the brewing cycle has finished:

33. You may remove the carafe at any time. The non-drip valve will prevent coffee dripping on to the hotplate.

34. To prevent the filter holder overflowing, replace the carafe on the hotplate within about 20 seconds. This may not sound much, but you’ll find it’s more than enough time to pour a couple of cups of coffee.

35. Replacing the carafe on the hotplate opens the non-drip valve, to let the coffee flow again.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

1. Unplug the appliance and let it cool down before cleaning or storing away.

2. Tip the contents of the filter into the bin.

3. You may clean the carafe, filter, and filter holder in warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly afterwards, to remove all traces of soap.

5. Clean the inside of the coffee mill with a pastry brush.

6. Don’t put any part of the appliance in a dishwasher.

9. Don’t use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.

DESCALING

10. Scale build-up will cause the element to overheat, reducing its working life. It will also lengthen the brewing time.

11. Descale regularly, at least once a month. If you notice the brewing time getting longer, shorten the time between descalings. In areas of very hard water it may be necessary to descale more often, or to use filtered water instead of ordinary tap water.

12. Use a proprietary brand of descaler suitable for use in plastic-bodied products. Follow the instructions on the package of descaler. After descaling, run the appliance twice with fresh water, but without coffee, to rinse out any chemical residues.

Russell Hobbs descaler, formulated specially for our products, is available online (back page).

Products returned under guarantee with faults due to scale will be subject to a repair charge.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

To avoid environmental and health problems due to hazardous substances in electrical and electronic goods, appliances marked with this symbol mustn’t be disposed of with unsorted municipal waste, but recovered, reused, or recycled.
