Canon EOS-D60 Questions and Answers

#1 What 2 lenses would be best for outside film, and another lens for close ups shots?

I use two lenses for most of my work although I do have a number of other lenses for special tasks such as macro. for most of my landscapes I use a Sigma 18-250 macro lens. It's very versatile and give me photos with little chromatic aberrations. It's fairly fast at F3.5 and the nice thing is I can keep it on the camera 75% of the time. The other lens I use a lot it the Sigma 150-500 Auto focus. It's great for shooting wild life shot such as song birds near a bird feeder or a bear you don't want to get too close to. I have other lenses I use also but nearly as often as I use these two.

#2 Has anyone had a problem with an external flash not being recognized? My speedlites used on other cameras will not work. Human error or problem?

Which flashes are you using? Any of Canon's ETTL 'EX' flashes should work with the 60D. As I recall, some of the settings for older EX flash models, however, can't be set through the camera's flash settings menu (you would have to set themset them directly on the flash unit itself). Older non-ETTL flashes ('EZ', 'EG', etc.) can't comminicate with the camera but may be used in manual or auto-flash modes.

#3 I would like to upgrade from my Canon Rebel XS to the Canon EOS 60D. Will I be able to use my lenses with the 60D?

Yep, any lens that works on the XS should also work fine on the 60D. You only have to worry when you step up to a full-frame (1D, 5D, 6D) or film camera because these can't use EF-S lenses.

#4 This will be our first DSLR what are your thoughts on the "perfect" all around lens to complement the 60D?

Since this is your first DSLR I will recomend the Canon 18-135 as a good all around lens. Overtime you may find the need or desire for other lenses like primes and L but to get you started the 18-135 will do a good job.
