Use & Installation Guide
Safety Precautions
- Wear protective eyewear and gloves when handling batteries.
- Keep batteries away from open flames and sparks.
- Do not short-circuit the terminals.
- Ensure the vehicle's ignition is off before beginning installation.
- Always connect the positive (+) terminal first, and disconnect the negative (-) terminal first.
Installation Steps
- Remove the Old Battery: Disconnect the negative (-) cable first, then the positive (+) cable. Remove any mounting hardware and carefully lift the old battery out.
- Inspect and Clean: Check the new YTX12-BS battery for any shipping damage. Clean the battery tray and cable terminals in the vehicle to ensure good contact.
- Position the New Battery: Place the new battery into the tray, ensuring it is oriented correctly with the positive (+) terminal on the left and negative (-) on the right.
- Secure the Battery: Use the provided screws or existing hardware to securely fasten the battery in place to prevent vibration damage.
- Connect Terminals: Connect the positive (+) vehicle cable to the positive (+) battery terminal first and tighten securely. Then connect the negative (-) cable to the negative (-) terminal. Ensure connections are tight and corrosion-free.
- Final Check: Double-check all connections are secure and correct. There should be no metal tools or parts touching both terminals simultaneously.
Initial Charging (If Required)
The battery is shipped pre-charged and ready for installation. If the battery has been stored for a long period or voltage is low, charge it before use.
- Use a compatible smart charger designed for 12V AGM/SLA batteries.
- Set the charger to 12V and a charge current of 1 Amp.
- Connect the charger's red clamp to the battery's positive (+) terminal and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal.
- Follow the charger manufacturer's instructions. Do not overcharge.
General Maintenance
- This is a maintenance-free battery; do not attempt to open or add fluid.
- Keep the battery and its terminals clean and dry.
- For vehicles in seasonal storage, it is recommended to:
- Disconnect the battery.
- Store it in a cool, dry place.
- Charge it fully every 3-6 months using a maintenance charger to prevent sulfation.
- Periodically check that the terminal connections are tight and free of corrosion.
Troubleshooting
- Vehicle won't start: Check battery terminal connections for tightness and corrosion. Verify battery voltage with a multimeter (should be ~12.6V+ when fully charged). The battery may need recharging.
- Battery loses charge quickly: Check the vehicle's charging system (stator/regulator). A parasitic draw from an accessory may be present. If stored, the battery may have self-discharged and require a full recharge.
- Battery appears swollen or damaged: Discontinue use immediately. Do not charge or install. Contact support for instructions.
